what can you not stand about FF-12 (PS2 version)?

i can't stand it when the espers have time limits and that you have to find 80 rare monsters in the game. |

Something I can't stand about FFXII? Well, how about the game corrupts whenever I enter a certain map at a certain point of the game..disallowing me to continue the game any further.
And I thought I've already 'abide' by the rules of signature.

What map does that to you squallpayne? I've never had any issues liek that before ( Funny thing about me finding this thread, Im currently in one of my multiple playthroughs, about to beat the game right now. Im right before the final boss fights, messing around with some side quests. Haha! ) But yea, what map is it that does that to you and when? |

I've seen my sis played FF12 and unfortunately she didn't like this one. I dislike its battle system, there's no 'usual' delay, and it wasn't so Final Fantasy. And the multi-combo limit breaks~~~ it's kinda too much, and the espers couldn't be used at most battles. I never played it, but by my judgement of watching FF12, it wasn't the best. And the ending was crap. The song wasn't the best. And you have to have a licence to own weapons, buy magic to acquire new magics. Jeez, it's just a freakin' game xDDD I think the best unique feature within FF12 was that you can pawn items--- ordinary or rare--- to obtain gil. Most items on FF games weren't useful after using them. Organised effort. Vayne is annoyingly evil. Gah, another Seymour descendant >:( |

My beliefs probably would be... 1) the limit system or the mist drive thing sucks unbelievably. It drains basically all of your mana for a good powerful blow, but then you can't do crap afterwards 2) all source of magic besides the fact of using curative magic takes too long to use and in the end, i don't believe the damage does it justice. 3) The espers are powerful and awsome to use due to cinematics, but they just plain aren't best to use. Your allies leave, the esper doesn't really attack unless you attack, you can't make it attack the right target all of the time, if its dead it doesn't do it's best attack when time limit ends, if you die, the esper leaves. And your targeted almost first all the time when summoning espers. 4) When going though levels, theres sometimes that ridiculously strong monster your supposed to avoid, and it follows you throughout the whole map if you accidentally hit it or see it or something. Once it gets close enough and uses firaga or something your all dead. 5) It really sucks training everyone in your party... 6) Rare monsters...their a pain when you have to fill the stupid requirement to make them appear. But some are worth it...like that negalmuur dude x] 7) Storyline...it was ok at first for the long run, then it just got REALLY boring for me =/...plus i hate how annoying it is sometimes to buff up your character to get to the next area. Well, you don't have to, but...come on sometimes >>... |

@ Shuyin: Its somewhere at the Phon Coast Region (Vaddu Strand), the map right after the Chocobo. No matter how I tried, either riding the chocobo then entering the next map or walking on foot...the next map simply doesn't load and it just stucks there. Weirdest case for me (I'm really enjoying the game, no critics from my side) and I've just let go of playing FFXII a few months back.

my brothers played it, and even i, who was just watching, hated it's battle system. everything was so complicated! and it's hard to get gil, as what my brothers usually complain. and you can see the enemies. there is no thrill. i really liked the suspense the previous final fantasy games provided when you are about to fight them, since you cannot know when you will face a battle in the first place. |

Actually...i kinda love the new type of battle system, though i must agree that it takes a bit to get used to... The gambit system reminds of something sort of like a program, or like the java language or C++. probably the hardest thing is to create a system where you can make your characters do the right thing by priority x] i guess...that doesn't really explain much...Well...the battle system allows for such things like hit and run strategies. lol |

I really didn't enjoy the combat at all. It felt like an mmo without the other people, but that type of combat isn't my style in the first place. The story wasn't that hot either, also the whole license system was kind of tedious. Overall it just wasn't that fun and lost out to better rpgs. Hopefully XIII will be good. |

@ squallpayne: That's wierd - maybe your game disk is scratched? And, are you using Japanese Version, NA Version, or International? I have the Norther American ( NA ) version, and haven't come across that problem. And yea, the story could have used some major work - the gambit system was a pain. I tihnk they should have made it like Kingdom hearts, and just made it so you could choose a basic AI thing for the other characters to follow. Like, a healer, attacked, defender, use items, etc - the Gambit system was just too tedious to be any fun. And, if you go to the right places, it is REALLY easy to level up and get LP. I found multiple places that have great leveling throughout the story, and so It's not too hard when Im at those points. For Example: Ozmone Plain, 'The Scar' or something. Where all those Wu are. Just chain all the Wu together to get awsome items and good exp and LP - then run up two screens ( avoiding enemies, fleeing ) to where the save point is ( right before golmore jungle ). DONT SAVE, then return to where you were: all the Wu are back! Rinse and Repeat, and in no time you can have a 150-Chain. |

@ Shuyin: Yeah, at first I definitely felt furious over the shop for the disc. No scratches found, changed it twice and its the same. Totally weird, finally to convince the shop guy about my problem I even brought my memory card there for a test play. Same case, man this should be included in X-files!

It felt more like an MMO than a console game. Although some good additions are there it still felt too much of an online game to notice. It got boring all of a sudden to even finish it. Review Kneel Before the Great and Benevolent Cow! |

@Squall Payne: The only other thing I can think of since I haven't encountered the same problem, is perhaps it's: 1: the time your trying to access it during the game ( Perhaps too early, and thus the game glitches up and freezes ) 2: Perhaps the problem lies with it trying to load and there being a problem with your PS2? 3: Have you used cheat codes, gameshark, action replay, etc, etc or anything? If so, it may have messed with your game in some way. Still, it's REALLY wierd it did that for more then one game disk. @Lu Bu: Yea, it did sorda play like a MMO, but at the same time it did have some amazing new additions. Though, the story was indeed lacking later in the game. But still, I loved it like all FF games! ^_^; |

I'd say most of the stuff like the battle system and you have to get a license thing and buy magic instead of obtaining it... Y'know i was so excited for final fantasy XII to come out!! I waited for days!! but then when I played it, *opens mouth* so different...also the gambit system was..awkward...no affence to those reading this...

I also don't like how the battle system requires like a cooldown before you can take action again.

I can't stand not getting the Mist Charges, even after refreshing 3 or 4 times in a row mid-chain (5-9) ends up making the damage not worth all that MP |

One thing I hated about this game was beating it completely. You beat everything and get the best sword in the game. Great! Only...there's nothing left to kill with it because you've already beaten every boss in the game in order to get it...pointless. And when you finally have it, it's slower than a snail WITH haste on, and it kills everything one hit when it has an 80% combo chance that you CAN'T USE!! Also, I was disapointed with how easy Omega Mark 12 was. All you have to do it keep reverse and decoy constantly on, and it's over. Way to easy for what should be the hardest boss in the game. Yiazmat was also to easy as you can leave the area and come back with him still hurt down to what you lowered him to. Sure he can use a full heal spell, but he takes forever to use it and he will NOT use it if you are next to him. I didn't like the gambit thing very much because if you set them up perfectly, all you have to do it walk around and watch everything die, and when you're someone that tries to make everything in a game perfect, it makes the game boring fast when you have nothing to do because of your perfect setup. The licence board wasn't so great either, what a dumb way to learn how to use a spell. I prefer the old fashion "level up to extreme levels to be able to use the best magic in the game" thing. But if you got really really bored, you could unlock EVERY block in it in just the first area, sure you have to buy them to use them, but it's still pretty cheap if you think about it. They should have made it so monsters don't give you LP points after a certain level or something. Mist charges are great if you're in the begining of the game and don't NEED magic to live, but once you get farther in the game, they don't do much damage, are hard to use, and waste away ALL of your magic so you can do a few points of damage. Why use all your magic for 2k damage when you can heal with that magic instead? Espers were alright and to easy to fight. They aren't all that powerful when they fight for you either, because once you get strong enough to get the ones that do damage worth mentioning, they are doing less damage than you with a single hit. Another thing that doesn't make sense is how you get the Zodiac Spear. You don't grab certain chests during the game, and you can get it. How does that make ANY sense? Don't grab chests so you can get a chest later? It's to stop you from being greedy, but it doesn't make ANY sense. The 80 rare monster thing was unneeded, as was the trophies you get from some of them. You get your trophies, turn them in, and get a crappy piece of equipment for doing so. By the time you can get the best weapon or armor from them, you've already got something 6 times better than it. |
