Laruku (J-Rock), Ajikan (J-Rock), The Pillows (J-Rock), Aqua Times (J-Rock).
All of these bands are pretty nice, including the fact they've done a few anime tracks.

Maximum The Hormone did the second OP/ED for Death Note. They're more heavier, but still J-Metal.
Nightmare did the first OP/ED for Death Note as well, Visual, but are considered a 'J-Rock' band regardless.
I think they have a new anime single coming up, but I have to re-check this.

Song recommendations, too? Let's see...

Laruku:
  • LOST HEAVEN, Link, Ready, Steady Go!!
  • Season's Call (HYDE)
  • SHINE
  • Blurry Eyes
  • etc.
Ajikan (ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION):
  • After Dark
  • Riraito (Rewrite)
  • Aru Machi no Gunjou
  • etc.
The Pillows:
  • Check out FLCL, they did just about every song for the entire anime.
Others I'd mention with anime tracks are maybe UVERworld, HOME MADE KAZOKU, Orange Range, etc.
You can check around the music section of the forums to discover more on your own.

J-rock itself is pretty wide, depends on what kind of Rock you're searching for

If you're looking for oldskool rock songs, B'z is the obvious choice. Their notable anime works:
The insanely high-pitched "Girigiri Chop"
"ROOTS", a great example of how power ballads should be
and one of the fan favorite "Mienai Chikara ~invisible one"

for pop-rock, Janne Da Arc is simply the one of the best. TOne of their notable anime song is the popular (thanks to one piece) "Shining Ray"

Flow is also a good choice for either mainstream or pop-rock, with songs like "Go!", "Colors", "Days", and such

UVERworld, for mainstream J-rock, has notable songs like the ever popular "D-tecnolife" and the catchy "Colors of the heart"

I don't know about J-metal that much but I'm safe to say that Galneryus is one of your best picks!

Gendou City Crossover RP! ~Coming soon~

Hmmm. . .
J-metal wise, i'd recommend SADIE, Girugamesh , if you like screamos lol.
if speed metal is probably like what they said, Galneryus.
Urrm, you can also try out Versailles, and deathgaze.

^all of the above are j-metal.

Galneryus, Maximum the Hormone, L'Arc-en-Ciel, Nightmare, Ellegarden, AKFG, UVERworld, HMC, Orange Range...the list is endless!

You should also try Makura no Soushi, a totally new band whose track 'Akai Usagi' was featured as the OP in Blade of the Immortal.
