Does anyone know the difficulty of the JLPT 4 test in comparison to the AP Japanese test that was introduced a couple years back? I'm studying for the AP one now, and timed essay portions aside I'm just wondering about the comparative difficulty since I've never so much as looked at JLPT material since my second year of learning the language.

Maybe also a good example of why inbreeding is a bad idea, although the paternity test has not been done to say for sure.

Thanks for the link. For example, last week, my teacher threw a random listening topic (about pimp bars or something in Shinjuku haha) at the class (about and we were supposed to write as much of an argumentative essay as we could in 10 minutes. Obviously not enough to finish an entire essay, but the point was to get the thesis and other basics down. CORRECTION: I thought the JLPT difficulty was ascending (as in 4 is the hardest. Turns out you start at 4 and go down. D'oh. Anyway, in that case, AP is more difficult than JLPT 2 but I haven't seen level 1 so I'm not sure about that.

JLPT 4 is ridiculously easy. Just 3 sections: Grammar, Vocabulary and Listening. As a measure of how easy it is, i myself got 379/400, and the needed score is only 280. GL to everyone waiting for their result. |

I'm taking the AP exam this May. Maybe I'll sign up for JLPT 2 or 1 at the next sitting and see how that goes. Anyone know if there is are essay sections on the JLPT?

Re: JLPT

Hello, I had one question or hope for advice: I'm now studying Japanese (have for years but only now getting good momentum) and planning to at least take the level 4 test this coming December...giving me about 9 months. I have no doubt I would be able to pass level 4. I think just one more month and I'd be ready. But I'm thinking of really buckling down and setting the goal of skipping 4, and just taking the 3rd. I know it'd be a good deal more work, but I do have spare time and having the target might make it easier (give me more motivation). Has anyone here done both? Is 3 that much harder? any thoughts, greatly appreciated... PS I'm in the US, not close to a JP community, studying alone- so only books, the web, and MP3s for me...so does make it harder... |

@AUMNX: http://www.jlptstudy.com/3/index.html That links to the level 3 page, but there is study material for JLPT 4-2 at this site. Judge for yourself what you know.

JLPT 4 is easy. JLPT 3 is really more difficult. You have to know keigo (敬語) which will not be easy if you did not take lessons. I kept memorising the keigo before the exam... I have a friend who is just a little above L4 standard and almost failed the L3 exam. 届ã‹ãªãã¦ã‚‚ 追ã„ã‹ã‘㦠|

yeah level 4 is easy.. I passed it last last year with 290 over 400.. ;3 and last year I passed 3kyuu with the same 298 over 400 >_>; I scored higher in listening part of the exam.. 89/100.. anyway..I've been thinking of taking level 2 this year.. I'm still 3rd year in my japanese language studies so I'm still skeptical if I can manage to pass level 2.. T_T I think i won't be the same as 3-4kyuu though... |

JLPT lv 3 and 4 are easy. Try the lv 2. Mecha kucha da. |
Re: JLPT

I was hoping to take the JLPT test in 2 years time. But I haven't done it yet. So I'm gonna do it soon. JLPT 4 looks easy, since it has basic writing & listening. |
