Choosing a computer help?
Link | by rin8 on 2008-07-31 03:29:38
My family is getting a new computer, and my mom decided I'm supposed to pick one. Could someone please help? We want a PC that cost less than $1000. Preferably one that's good for graphics.

hmm 1000.. = RM3000...
Hmmm it'll be good computer. Here's my pic for ya.
-Intel duo Core. 3.2ghz to 2.66ghz. (if you prefer cheaper price AMD processor will be good enough for gaming. BUT pity i don't know the AMD Processor better.
-RAM ermm kingston? Or If you want better RAM which dedicated to gaming use.. arrgg i forget the name. >.> Anout 2gb will be good enough.
-DVD-RW ROM. DUH...
-hard disk ermm 500gB? Around that.
-Graphic i recommand ermm Geforce 8600GT. It's ermm if i am wrong correct me. 512mb. It support Vista's DirectX10 which gives better graphic.
-Ya don't need buy os. That's what i recommand. ya jus have to download one. :/ if you know what i mean.
This is what i know and what i can help out. The price will be around RM34XX or more. Ermm a bit more? well anyway.. keyboard and mouse will be up to you.
Razor mouse will be good enough. Cooper head.
Monitor.. well 17inches view sonic ( i forget teh name) will be cool.
speaker.. ermm if you are not out of budget get altect lencing. ( ermm name wrong also. I don't memorize them)
So... opps.. out of budget. RM4000. lol...

hmmm...
I would recommend the Acer product line.
They have good PCs for reasonable prices.
Try checking out their website.

Try this specs:

* Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad Core/Core Extreme with 2.5+ GHz or AMD Processors with High Cache and Clock Speed (3.2GHz+ will do)

* Motherboard that has a 4 RAM Slots or more that can handle 4 - 8+ GB RAM with fast responce rate. DDR3 or DD2 Compatible. But in brands, I will choose Intel Boards (For Intel Processors Only) or Gigabyte Boards (but those two are expensive but durable and reliable for great performance) or ASUS Motherboard (this is cheap motherboard).

* At least 1GB Memory 128Bit or 256Bit PCI Express Video Card with fast memory responce rate. But it depends to your Processors on what brands you can choose. If you got AMD, choose ATI Video Card, but if you got Intel Processors, choose NVidia Video Card. I just try this strategy a while ago by buying NVidia Video Card and an ATI Video Card for my PCs.

* Power Supply with great stability of distributing voltage for the PC's Hardwares. Don't buy generic power supply because it makes you sorry in future use.

* DDR2 or if you can find it in future, DDR3 with at least 1GB+ each. But actually it's not how big your RAM capacity, but how fast it's responce rate. Try Kingston (Made in USA, not China) or Apacer.

* Cooling Devices for your Processor, Graphics Card, and Motherboard. Try to use CPU Fans with Copper and Aluminum Plates with Aluminum or Copper Pipe for dispersing heat and a good thermal paste for your heat sinks in processor, graphic card, and motherboards Chipset device. I know cooling devices is the last thing to buy by some computer users because sometimes they say it's not really important. But due to Graphics editing, your processor, graphics card, and motherboard will do some process that makes them hot (even aircon will help from outside temperature, but the inside temperature will cause hangs and sudden falure of responce for the device). That's why it causes unstability.

* SATA Hard Disk with fast transfer rate, RPM, and huge capacity. I recommend Seagate Brands because it's more reliable than Western Digital and even more durable than Maxtor.

* The other devices like Monitor, Printer, Communication Devices, Removable Storage, CD/DVD ROMs, and other computer accesories that was not mention above is not really do importance in a Graphic Editor PCs. Choose whatever you want or brands or you can also use your old devices at home.

But you said that you like a cheaper less than $1000 PC. But if you got a nice fund to offer, try an IBM Computer. That is what I use now for Graphic Animation and it causes me no disturbance, no lags, no hangs, no system failure unlike the other PCs here that gives me headaches.
