I need a vote guys... There's an anime from 20 years ago called Urusei Yatsura which actually rocks. The problem is that online video sites like Veoh only have about 2 episodes online, so it's hard to get into UY without downloading it. so here's the question, should i upload the 160 episodes and 6 movies that i downloaded?? I need to know whether it will be worth my time, or if people won't bother watching it... Plus anyone have any idea how long it would take me to do this? (i haven't uploaded stuff before). The files are all in AVI format which i know i will have to convert. reply with "do it" or "don't do it" with a reason for your choice please ^^

Do it. I'd re-watch it. I love that show. It was, by my best account, my very first anime.

Thanks for your response ^^ the thing is there is already a reliable torrent on the web. That's where i got the episodes from lol but i think it can only be downloaded on programs that use torrents, and not everyone uses them. My main intention is to try and get more people watching this show, so if i uploaded it then surely it would be available to those who don't wish to save it to their computer ^^ Check mininova or isohunt for a good torrent XD

Do it for sure. I think there's a lot of fans online who'd dL it. I remember seeing one of the movies not too long ago, but I forget which one it was. Lum, in my opinion, was pretty cute. ^_~`

Although I haven't watch it yet , but since it's an old anime , means it could be legend ^^ . It could be useful for my studies in anime/manga creation and for a collection too ^^ . So I would vote 'do it' too ^^. I wish I could rely on torrent , but at times if that certain thing is old , it might be forgotten . Then it will be even more difficult to download it due to the lack of seeds and peers . That's why I'd rather choose normal download rather than torrent although you can download anything through torrent ^^ . |

Angelus@ if you're studying anime/manga creation then this could be a goldmine...urusei yatsura practically MADE anime what it is today. If you search it up online then you will see how influential this anime is... the idea of a supergirl falling in love with a hopeless guy? Urusei yatsura was the first to do it. Even now i think Lum is used as a mascot for some companies in eastern european countries ^^ UY was also one of the first anime to fit into the family section, whereas before anime on tv was mainly based on fighting robots or soap dramas for housewives. Also, maybe on a less good note, Lum was the first anime character that men could call cute without being looked at weirdly. Don't ask me why, i can only guess it's because the anime was so popular that people didn't mind it so much. Plus so many of the comedic methods used in UY have been reused over and over again. I often compare anime i watch to UY and often i can find plenty of similiarities despite the 20 year gap. Every japanese person i've talked to knows about Urusei Yatsura (and i've talked to plenty), yet none of them knew about cowboy bebop at all. Btw the torrent has been on for about 3 years, and it constantly has 36 seeds...it hasn't risen or fallen for the whole year it took for me to download 2 thirds of the anime lol.

I had trouble acquiring anime titles in those days... I can't even clearly recall how I first came to know this series... Anime was so hard to come by in my country in the 80's. My father would usually bring home recorded betamax tapes of japanese networks and it occasionally has anime in them (though he left them to record while he was going to work... Meaning... He pretty much recorded every show in the network until the tape runs out). I also had to check multiple underground rental shops to find some but they aren't that many in their list. Taking account my physical condition and age... It was hard going around checking all the shops The only time I do remember that I had watched and followed the series was when a chinese network cable TV aired the show in the 90's. At that time they also had a huge line-up of anime. They aired some of Rumiko Takahashi's works like: Maison Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2 and Urusei Yatsura. Others are: Akazukin Chacha, Kimagure Orange Road, Tekkaman Blade, Fist of the North Star etc... All are pretty much 80's anime... (I also remember waking up in 3am in the morning to catch some of the shows and recording their opening and ending themes in cassette tapes) So yeah... This is one of those series that I would hold dear and of course this wasn't the first that I managed to watch without subs (and in a different language to boot...) ![]() Kneel Before the Great and Benevolent Cow! |

I agree with rob-san....Lum (Urusei Yatsura) is a classic through & through that has left impressions of itself in anime series today. One of the earliest romance-comedy-harem anime with great characters (LUM!!!! rocks!!!!)& a funny yet smart story. The theme songs are really cute as well...."Lum's Love Song" in particular which plays for the first 70 or so episodes. If you do intend to see it it will take you quite awhile to finish the entire series cause it has over 200 episodes (TV & OVA) as well as 6 feature films...my fave is 'Beautiful Dreamer' which is the 2nd film. I applaud you for being interested in the older classic anime series like this one...Some kids these days have no respect for these older series cause they all care for animation quality over substance. If they think about it without these series there will probably not be series we see today. Lu Bu-san also listed a few others by Rumiko Takahashi which are worth watching as well. Series like these paved the way for the modern series we see today.... Lum --- > Ranma 1/2 --- > Tenchi ---- > all romance harem series today Starblazers --- > Gundam --- > Macross ---- > Gundam W ---- > Gundam 00 |

Urusei Yatsura ..... no wonder I heard the anime before from an anime magazine >~<* , how dumb can I be ! Now I remember the show , it was one of my favourite artists who made Ranma 1/2 too ^^ . She's an icon for female manga artist (since many of manga artists are male) and I admire her because of these several things : 1. She knows how to keep an anime alive and fresh without ever flinching by putting humors+whatsoever things in it . Example , Ranma 1/2 has about 100+ episodes or more and it seems to survive more longer than other long series animes because it's theme is about martial arts + comedy + romance (a lil') and she put lots of weird techniques (Bun-Bun technique XD) . Yet still , it still follow the theme of the story , which is martial arts related . Plus , with the help of humor and romance , it spices the show up so that they won't get bored just watching fighting ^^ . Unlike Naruto or Bleach which has a long series but somehow it's dying out of the lack of popularity . 2. I believe she was the first one to introduce romance theme into the anime world . And she is the first person to incoperate it into fighting theme since humor wasn't enough that time . I don't know how she did it , but that's why I admire her ^^ . 3. She's the first ever to make a successful long series anime which other manga artists could'nt , and she's a she ! (Shame on all the boys =.=*) 4. Instead of following other people into making fighting or mecha theme , she stick to her own style and just uses other peoples manga as a reference and 'till now , she's still sticking toher own way . WOW !! 5. Usually you'll see lots of handsome , strong mens in an any old animes (there are girls , just that there're too few and too pointless) , but Urusei Yatsura was the first to overturn what anime was before by turning the opposite . Weak men accompanied by powerful yet ..... beautiful ~~ ♥ ladies XDD . And the trend continues on . Obviously , Rumiko Takahashi started the 'Girl Rulezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz' trend XDDD . And I agree with Rob and Izumo-san , long anime makers should study how Urusei Yatsura became successful ! But , 200 episodes ?? I can see my PC sweating right now XDDD . |

Thanks for your responses guys, i now know a lot more about Takahashi's style and work XD If you're pc refuses 200 episodes lol then i would say at least watch the films. The first film follows the plotline of the series more or less, and is the most favoured film in japan. The second film is the most popular in the US and has a surprisingly deep storyline ^^ The Third film kind of lacks in comparison to the others, but i still enjoyed it. The Fourth film is a masterpiece of symbolism which the director made in protest against people watching anime (believe it or not! by this time him and other directors had been working on the previous films as well as 140 or so episodes in a row, so he was becoming agitated at his work). The Fifth film is the end of the series... be wary of this if you are also planning on watching the anime. It follows a more similiar theme to the first movie, and is actually an amazing film. The 6th film is a ten year special. You will enjoy it if you are a hardcore UY fan who is aching to see more of lum and ataru, but otherwise it is a disappointment. Ataru's pervertedness is overdone in this one, to the point where he probably only has about 5 lines, and spends the rest of his time harassing women. You can enjoy the films without the series, but if you can, give it all a try! XP After the first film was made the budget for UY increased significantly, so the quality of everything made a noticeable jump (for those of you who can't stand the way UY is drawn for the first 20 episodes).
