i am roman catholic, yet i believe in reincarnation. well, not the way buddhists or hindus' reincarnation. i think that when man dies, his soul will go to either heaven or hell. if the soul goes to heaven, he will stay there for quite some time until God tells him to go back to earth and live a new life with a new identity. all his memories from his past life are erased. and if he dies, the cycle goes on. if the man goes to hell, he will suffer there forever as a consequence of his actions, nevertheless that he may have been reincarnated a thousand of times. when i posted this as a comment in a certain website ("i believe in reincarnation although i am a catholic"), someone reacted that i am not a true christian and i ought to change my belief. she said that being a christian is believing all of the teachings of Christianity without any doubts. but then, nobody knows what life after death is like. i was able to imagine this kind of setting because of that reason. i always wonder if heaven does not experience overpopulation after everyone who died eversince life began. besides, aside from reincarnation, i firmly believe of my faith at the rest of its areas. so fellow gendounians, i would want to know your opinions about reincarnation, since all of us came from different parts of the world and believe in different religions. |

I'm not religious. When you die, your body lies still, gradually rotting away. There's no such thing as reincarnation. It's just sth people invented to make death seem less scary. (Reminds me of the islamaniac suicide bombers who believe they'll be rewarded in heaven or sth like that) Your soul, if it even exists, stays put, until the end of the world... After that, God knows. |

Hmm... I just don't like it when people talk about things way above my level of comprehension. ^^ |

I always thought your mind gave off electrical signals even after death. I'm not a christian, hell I'm very anti religion. However, that doesn't stop me believing in the existence of the esoteric. I'm a martial artist and as such, we place great store in what most call the human spirit. Like that small part of us that we never use unless it's absolutely essential. It allows us to pick up a car to save a child, rip the door off a place to escape, that sort of thing. I believe that essence is unkillable. I think it's distributed between everything that lives on this planet. I think that when you die, that energy has to move somewhere else and so it will move into trees plants, other people and animals and so a cycle of equality is maintained. But hey, I'm no big religious dood and so I don't know for certain and it's a romantic notion to ease my spirit when I think about after death. But worry about life for now. No use wasting the certainty you have by pondering the uncertain. Live and enjoy it, you come to regret it later. |

What I'm talking about is reincarnation isn't it? Your spirit (or soul if you prefer) being given new substance after your departure. |

I believe in Reincarnation~ and I believe that people with strong will can pass fragment of memory to his next life.. but it would be just in the subconscious mind.. and would define a characteristic from the past life.. and might have variations (past life: likes to bake(only); new life: likes to cook(with baking, etc.) and even negations(past life: afraid of spiders; new life: loves spiders).. bah =3= @yance: on the contrary how large IS heaven or hell(if they ever exist.. =.=)? is just as small as tiny waiting room or bigger than the whole universe? @twisted: that sounds like an eerie belief of death.. then the soul would stay put on the body? =_= maybe time for souls are longer.. XD |

This question is tricky, due to the fact I was born Christian but my beliefs alone are not only Christian. I make an understanding from what I can see but I know there is a greater power out there, that is not even a question. Reincarnation I belive occurs when you die with regrets and your soul can not rest. Thus, instead of being in a state of misery for the rest of your eternal life, you are sent back so as to make things right in a new life and hope this time you die without the knowledge of regret over something you did or did not do. As far as the existence of Heaven and Hell and the space in either. We have determined space is constantly expanding, so could it not also be true Heaven is also constantly expanding to fit its needs? As far as Hell, I only belive that those who refuse and shun God on a heavy degree go their but not permanently, just until they accept his love and then will return to him or maybe reincarnated to live a new life with that love.
How is ones reality defined?

Firstly, why is this a WASTE OF TIME? Secondly, you know what I hate about religions? They always appear to be self-righteous, they view others' beliefs as HERETIC, as SATANIC, and they think they themselves will go to heaven, everyone else is gonna go to hell, which makes God the biggest selfish totalitarian jackass of all time. OK, maybe that just applies to the extremists. Why am I not a christian? <~ And this is a pretty nice site, too. (Sorry if this is nothing concerning the topic, it's just because someone mentioned the concept "refuse God". Yes, I REFUSE THE STUPID GODS WHO SEND PEOPLE TO HELL) |

hmm twisted.. that essay.. errr I don't wanna talk about it.. I'm a bit irritated by how the person expressed these.. but if I further it will be seriously off-topic.. plus what wawhoo mentioned could be any religion nut just christianity.. alot of monotheistic and polytheistic religion that "not accepting your religion's God/s (or most prominent God/s) is equal to hell or something similar.. like being taken by Enma >=3, or be reincarnated to a lesser being, or your soul rot away blah", and what about |

oops, sorry dood... misunderstanding, then. I wonder, if reincarnation's real, and it's all about dying at peace with yourself, then surely, if you're a real bad person in life, but completely fine with it, then you won't go anywhere bad to 'atone'? |

well, what do you think about those people who say that they were reincarnated? i've read in a book about a girl who says she was once like a mother with a family, died not knowing why, and then stilll "remembers" her past life even in her new body. she was even able to find her family even though she was just barely 5 years old, with the help of her "parents." this is very unbelievable, and i have no idea if i will believe this story or not. @ renshi it's okay. and i'm not a dood (i'm female obviously) @ slarfindel i have no idea why this is in the waste of time, although i'm very sure i created this in the philosophy forum. @ vie yes . . . who knows? |

its a nice idea, but i really cannot believe that there is anything at all after death, you just die, cease to exist, that's all. |

Sorry for the dood remark, something I picked up from playing Disgaea too much, it kinda seeped into my speech, dood.... You can't just cease, man. It just doesn't make sense. You can't destroy energy, and so the human mass is energy, it has go somewhere (and I'm not talking about earthworms and being eaten after death). Like the electrical activity in the brain, where does it go? It still carries on after death and it moves around, but where does it go? Ever read The Dark? I think it was written by Dean Koontz. Now that has an interesting theory about reincarnation, look it up at your local library, it's worth the read. |

Eh, "electrical activity"? Maybe it turns into some kind of thermal energy? XD. Yeah, energy can be converted, but that doesn't mean the object will stay in one piece and remain operable -_-, nor does it mean the conversion can be undone/the object can be recycled. You know, sometimes you have to accept the fact that the "game" is "over", no respawn, no retry, nope. With only one shot at this ultimate game of life, you know you'll have to make your time here worth it. @rocketg: Unless Haruhi wants you back.^_^ Anyway, very explicit statement. Really reminds me of the light novels... @yance: They're bluffing. Everyone involved just made it up in order to get famous. People have always been taking advantage of scientists' inability to prove/explain sth, such low-life opportunists. Betcha but for the advent of science, they would be still crying : "Oh everyone, the world is FLAT, FLAT I tell you. The universe revolves around us, oh oh everyone" (I just can't think of anyone in the past that ever said such things, can you? Just who called Galilei a "heretic", just who kept him in captivity at his house, where he later became blind and left to rot? I can't seem to remember, must be getting old) So, NEVER believe what science can't prove. Belief leads to doubt. Doubt leads to fear. Fear leads to hatred. And hatred leads to the dark side. XD |

That's why I plan on not dying in the first instance, my pride means I don't wanna chance losing the strength I've gathered/will gather i my lifetime. |
