okay... first i thought that this is only a theory but my teacher says that this anti-matter really exist.. can anyone explain the definition, the effect, the uses in life and something like that for this anti-matter...

I'll first say I am not 100% in this information as I have not fully looked into it. Oh and I apologize if I simplify this too much. You didn't say the level of class you are in so I am starting simply. (Oh and Gendou is probably going to come by and give you a much better explanation.)

matter is what surrounds us and what everything we see and feel is made of. Everything we see is made of Atoms which are made of Protons, Electrons, and Neutrons. A single hydrogen atom is made of a single proton being orbited by a single electron.

Now antimatter is simply the reverse of matter. Everything around us is made of particles while anti-matter is made of antiparticles. The main antiparticles are antiprotons, positrons, and antineutrons. How they are opposites is whereas the charge of a proton is positive and an electron is negative, antiprotons are negative and positrons are positive. The mass of an antiproton and a proton are the same (and the same for the rest of the equivalents). Those are the only things that are the same. The particles are made of antiquarks, the spins are opposite and many other things are opposite.

When matter comes into contact with antimatter they annihilate. This is a complete conversion of the entire mass of both particles into energy.

Antimatter occurs naturally whenever high-energy particles collide with each other (cosmic rays hitting the atmosphere, particle accelerators, and many other locations). However in the atmosphere when it is created it immediately annihilates with the nearest matter particles releasing a small amount of energy.
Antimatter can be contained when it is created in a electromagnetic trap. The best way I know to explain this is that it simply uses strong magnetic fields to contain the antimatter from touching anything inside a vacuum.

Researches have been able to make antihydrogen, but only just barely. Now on uses, there are very many but just about none which can be used in modern day. The problem is that antimatter requires large amounts of energy to create (we are simply using E=mc^2 in reverse and turning energy into mass, I may have this wrong though). It costs hundreds of millions of dollars (USD) per milligram to create simply on energy costs. When energy becomes free is when we will be able to create antimatter and use it.

Uses: The first one most people think of is creating an antimatter bomb. For reference a standard nuclear weapon converts only 3% of the mass into energy at most. A few grams could create an explosion the size of north america. This is what happens when you do a complete conversion of mass into energy. Another use is antimatter propulsion of which there are many varieties of and which is nearing moving from theory into technology.

For a very good explanation of antimatter drive types is to read this NASA page: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/exploration/mmb/antimatter_spaceship.html

Nice reply, though, Ergzay.
