AntiMatter

I believe this topic has been spoken on before but I have a little bit of excting news. I am good friends through Xbox Live with one of the theoreretical physicists (Spelling?) at Cern. Very recently he made a breakthrough in slowing down the decay of antimatter. Becuase of his discovery it now costs only thousands instead of millions to create antimatter and the cost just keeps getting cheaper. Ive been told that the single gram of antimatter they have created is goign to power the whole lab for an entire year. What he figured out was that by directing super small charges to the electrons in the antimatter, Im going off of memory so this may be slightly incorrect, he could change the direction or charge or something in the electron thus slowing the decay of the antimatter. So I have been told the antimatter they created is several atoms of hydrogen with the electrons inside the nucleus instead of outside. Good stuff, his mentor was Brian Green btw if youd like to learn a little about him.

*edit* Oh and if you anyone wants me to I can prolly get him to join this site and come in here to explain this a heck of alot better than I can.

That would be interesting indeed. Wikipedia last stated that it would take them over 2 billion years to create a single gram of antihydrogen.

I guess wiki was wrong... Thats exactly what they did. I told my friend about it and he said hell come on and explain everything in detail as soon as he has some extra time. If anything Ill have him email me and ill post what he sends. Its really interesting stuff but its a little over my head.

I am somewhat skeptical about this... a subatomic physicist at CERN with enough time on his hands to play XBox Live extensively... Do you know his name? If you do, then posting it here would allow us to read a bit about his research on the internet. CERN's official website does not say anything about discovering a cheap and fast way to create antihydrogen, which would be considered a major breakthrough if true.

Personally I think you are being led astray.

Very possible. I am as skeptical as you. I do know for sure that hes a very intelligent person regardless. He doesnt actually work at Cern though. He worked as a guest there for free for a little while. If he wants his nname posted he will when he comes on here.

Here is an interesting article regarding the usability of antimatter as an energy source: http://ikpe1101.ikp.kfa-juelich.de/ps210/AH_energyE.html
