well, you can reinstall windows w/o reformatting your harddisk, just switch it to upgrade option... well firstly, you'll need a WinXP setup CD. |

Hi there is one quick fix that mgiht solve this problem. You can do a system restore point to an earlier time what this will do is make your computer go back in time thinging it's at an earlier time. However, the downside to this is the programs that you recently installed will be gone also but all the text and music files should stay in tact so yea take your pick. But f you are interest this is what you do Start Programs Accessories system tools and it's a program called system restore it's very straight forward and it is a quick fix it sometimes works or sometimes doesn't. |

The file SSVCHOST.EXE is a Trojan, malware or a general virus. You should get a stronger firewall if that one slipped in. There is (or should be at least) a file in your System32 folder called svchost though. So don't get those two mixed up. Is the ssvchost.exe file still there? Or were you able to fully get rid of it? (I ask this because it can generate errors like that one.) |

in my humble opinion firewalls are just another bloatware program. All you need is a good anti virus like NOD32 and anti-spyware like avg or ewido and you are set and if they buy a router that itself is a physical firewall. |

Try getting a removal program like Ad-Aware SE (you can get it for free with the google software pack still I believe.....), and seeing if that gets rid of it. Wait a second.......the computer says it can't find it? Then all that means is your computer tries to run it on startup since it's in the startup services config file, and then realizes it can't since it can't find it anymore anyway. All this means is it can't run the 'virus' since it can't find it. This isn't a bad thing, but I'd do a virus scan to make sure nothing is hiding with it. To get it to stop popping up whenever you turn your computer on, follow these instructions: 1)open your start menu 2)open the "run..." tool 3)type in msconfig (and click ok) 4)then select the startup tab along the top of the window 5)scroll down until you see the ssvchost.exe and uncheck the box next to it and then click ok. 6)click exit without restart (don't worry, you don't need to restart, it's just saying this is what it'll do next time it starts up) 7)the next time it starts up it might pop up with a "startup options in msconfig have been changed or something yadda yadda yadda..." just mark or unmark the checkbox to make it not pop up again. That should get rid of the startup error. If you don't see the ssvchost.exe on the list then tell me, because there's other options it's just this is the easiest.

I'd suggest that a virus scan is conducted as I've done a few checks and the file in question is related to both the HELIOS.B trojan and the IRCBOT.H trojan (that I could see in a quick search) but since the file has already been deleted then a quick check with hijack this (google for this) to see if there's anymore references to the file (but a virus scan wouldn't hurt just in case there's any stragglers still in hiding) |
