"copyright protection"
|
Now I know that this PISSES off just about everybody. How do you feel about copyright protection? I hate copyright protection with passion because it can really f*** up your computer and it prevented me from copying a song that I LEGALLY downloaded from Dell to my MP3 player. It should be called Digital restrictions management. I pirate my music JUST TO AVOID COPYRIGHT PROTECTION. After all, you can do more with the pirated music if your MP3 player doesn't support copyright protection.

Well we dont have a choice. the production company and the artistse need to earn and prevent pirated CDs. However, I never bought pirated CD and didnt bother about the copyright issue. |

There is only one true method of copyright protection. That method is charging reasonable prices for the music, movies, and games (I don't mind the price of fifty or sixty dollars for a game since it does cost millions of dollars for the games and they don't reach as many people as movies) but the cost for movies and music is atrocious and get rid of that DRM that f***s up your computer. Have you heard of the Starforce and Sony rootkit scandals? That is why I am so pissed off about copyright protection. I would legally download my music if it was around a third of the current price and didn't have DRM. DRM needs to be outlawed. I am trying to find out about the status of freeuse4wm which allows you to strip protected WMA files of their copyright protection. The creator was sued by Micro$oft because they claimed that he couldn't have created an update to get around the update to WMA DRM so quickly (within a day of the release of the update). Forget the possiblity that he is just a good programmer and created the patch from scratch, just sue the people who try to give the consumer the ability to win against the Nazis who run these corporations whose only interest is to f*** over the consumer. Oh, and by the way, if you heavily upgrade your XP machine, you won't be able to use XP anymore because of the copyright protection. And people wonder why I like copyleft.

I don't really have a problem with pirated songs. The artists themselves only get like 1 dollar or so after all the expenses for that CD are covered. Their live appearences is where they really make money. Besides, most of the big music artists are overpayed and are rich enough already. Why the hell should I pay a couple of dollars for a song that screws up my computer and still has restrictions while also making the artist richer. |

I am now having a new copyright protection nightmare, Starforce. My system stability has taken a nosedive ever since I installed Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood on my PC only to find out that it has Starforce which is known to degrade system stability and to leave DVD-RW drives inoperable. I am now trying to beat the game as soon as possible so that I can get rid of StarForce. If any of you have good coding skills, I would kill to have a program that can delete Starforce while allowing the programs requiring Starforce to work.

@twoface: Although it's too late for your current game, I would recommend doing some research and BOYCOTTING future games that include this Starforce, or any similar piece of scumware. It's ironic that anyone who designs programms that HIJACK and SABOTAGE other people's equipment actually have the audacity to use the word "piracy" when speaking of others. Tell your friends about it, too, like you did here; if game sales figures plummet far enough, you can be sure they'll change their tune on future games. They should not be allowed to profit from harrassing *paying* customers. |

I heard about this program designed to render the anti-copying measures of Starforce useless called Starforce nightmare. It allows you to temporarily disable optical drives and then re-activate them to copy the disc. I am going to have to risk f**king up my installation of WinDOS to get rid of Starforce. I hope that Ubisoft de-starforces their games with a patch (like other developers)to rip that f**ker out of my machine. Ubisoft has decided not to use Starforce with future releases due to the volume of complaints so it is not out of the realm of possibility for Ubisoft to release a patch.
