Interesting news for Eva fans...
Link | by CaptainJoystick on 2006-09-06 15:15:10
A certain image based message board I frequent just recently featured... what I would like to call an unlikely surprise.

The related topic seems to suggest that, as indicated by the previous image, Newtype magazine released an article adressing rumors (albiet noteworthy ones) regarding studio Gainax, and the possibility of... make sure you're sitting down now... a new Evangelion series.

Anyway, again there's very little to go by right now, but apparently, we're talking about a remake with the same premise, characters, and general storyline of the original series. We'll also be seeing a new director, though supposedly Anno (the original series director, and supposedly very much uninterested with anime at the moment...) will be brought on as a consultant. Rumors also persist that there will be significantly less introspective/experimental segments, and that the animation will by styalized in such a way as to pay tribute to the era in which Eva was first released. (Presumably, that means something like how Getter Armageddon evoked a 70s style with extensive pencil work and two-frame explosions...)

Anyway, I'll leave you guys to stew over for a bit, lets see if anyone else has heard anything.

By the way, could anyone at least confirm what some of the japanese text in these images says? I'd look quite the fool if this turned out to be a hoax...

well this looks interesting... and something to look forward to... (better than that live-action movie... which i expect will end up with the likes of fist of the north star and guyver live-action...)

i want to see how the storyline will go... (it'll probably be less confusing for others unlike the first if this will be true...) and how the ending will fare against the original (which left people asking alot of questions...) and i hope they dont overhaul it to the point that the "feel" that NGE gave its viewers will disappear... (at least they wont change its animation style... recent animation seems to be degrading...)

and hopefully the other evas will be seen in action (or at least seen for that matter...)

Guess I have to pop over to Japantown to get me an issue of that Newtype to read the article. Unless there's scans of it out there? I wouldn't know where to look..

well...I think that it is possible...but I'm not sure if anyone here knows...but there is a new manga regarding Neon Genesis...it's called Angelic Days...it's a really cool manga of the series but it isn't exactly the same of course...I have 2 volumes of it already...and it's great...so they might make the new anime series from this manga version...

I'm guessing it will be like the new manga Agelic days in which there are still angels and evas but the story is much lighter than in the original eva. I hope they indtroduce new charecters or bring ones from the games like mana. Evangelion is the best anime as far as im concerned and adding to its mythos is always welcome in my opinion. I just hope shinji's a little less annoying, he reminds me of me a little too much.

Ohhhh...I really hoped that they don't milk Evangelion for what it's worth just for publicity and money. Evangelion is too good of an anime to do that to.

You need a reason to be sad. You don't need a reason to be happy. The secret to happiness is to face the fact that the world is horrible.

yeah i agree with you Random Guy, while many anime are being produced each year only a few have stand out to be respected and in my opinion Evangelion is one of that... Even though my head almost explode in analyzing the plot since, if i remember right i was only 11 at that time... the second time i was the series i was more fascinated, even though it left a lot of questions. :-) looking forward if there is a new series of the same type, i hope more info will pop out :-)

Well, for more info on the Neon Genesis Evangelion movies, you can visit this site [http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=9464].

hmmm...i dont really like the new evnagelion manga Angelic days...because the art is so off from the original series. I can't get used to it =[. but i AM looking forward to the new live action and movies to come.

Live action I am definetly looking forward to, if not for the storyline, then definetly for the graphics and how they will render everything and such. That had always piqued my interest, I hope that Weta doesn't disappoint me.

As for Angelic Days, if you've seen episode 26 they you'd realize that the manga is actually a spin-off of Evangelion, taking the one clip where they showed that Alternate Reality that Shinji could have lived in. That's what Angelic Days was meant to be.

As for Rebuild of Evangelion last time I checked was confirmed. It's supposed to be released in Summer 2007. From the information that I have gathered there will be four in total, the first 3 taking episodes 1-24 and cleaning it up and redo it. So from what I've gathered they plan to take what the original creator had intended and revising the story, animation, and such and maybe make some changes and maybe do things. What exactly I am unsure of. But I hope that there will be fansubbers out there who will bring in the movie as soon as it hits the shelf.

The fourth movie of the four part movie series is supposed to be yet a completely different ending of the series, thus giving the story Shin Seiki (Neon Genesis) Evangelion three endings. Episodes 25 and 26, End of Evangelion and Rebuild of Evangelion movie 4.

Note that this is information that I had gathered off Wikipedia and a few friends of mine so this information could be wrong, but at the same time it could be correct. They only way of knowing is to see what happens during Summer of 2007. Should it prove to be true it's going to make a big impact upon the Evangelion communitee. This will probably make or break the merchendise and series of Evangelion. I hope that they don't destroy the name that Evangelion had made for itself over the last decade and a bit. And to think that it's been well over a decade since the series first came out, and it still continued to influence the world.

Well anyways, that's all from me, please feel free to dispute what I have if you believe that my information is wrong.

Cheers ^^ Ja ne
