PS3 may hold the key to curing cancer...

Thought this was a pretty interesting article. Besides being 1 of the 3 next generation consoles, Sony had said that their console was considered a "multi-purpose" machine and could perform numerous tasks. Well, it seems that Folding@home (computer company) is going to use the PS3 technology and simulate certain proteins while calculating operations in the body that could possibly lead to a cure for cancer. I think it would be a great contribution for everyone and maybe it really could lead to something important in the future. What are your thoughts? |

Folding@home is a distributed research project that hopes to help fight disease by simulating protein folding/unfolding. You can download the client and create an account for free, then join the Gendou.com team! You don't need a PS3, any computer can run Folding@home

Was finally able to complete a work unit. Gendou team is finally on the rankings. Not high up but hey. I hope more people take part in this and join the Gendou work group. It's not like it uses up a lot of your computer resources (mine is old and it still manages to run it fairly well).    |

Didn't they say the same thing about Starcraft 2 curing cancer and stopping all world wars? :P Well, it is an interesting article, but I doubt any console can cure anyone.  |

The title is simply designed to attract your intention. The PS3 doesn't hold the key to curing cancer, this is just about the program which the PS3 took on support for called Folding@Home which can be used on a PS3 or computer. It simply offers it's computing power along with other PS3's and Computers to simulate folding and help to better understand how such things work. This can lead to ways to better combat or even cure illnesses such as cancer. |
