pitiful character

the one and most character whom i feel sorry for is garaa who character can compare what he been though. he has a family but it's not a real family. the one whom he trust the most betrayed him. his mother gave him the name to exist in hatred. there is nothing for him to live by but to kill. i mean many anime haver sad characters like nakago in fushigi yuugi he was evil but had a very bad childhood life. there are many sad characters around here so tell me about it.

| I tend to think Gunslinger Girl had the most pitiful characters. One was shot up badly when her family was assassinated, one was kidnapped for making kiddie porn snuff films, one was congenitally deformed, one's parents tried to run her down with a car for insurance money, etc. They all ended up being used as tools and kept locked away from society except when working. And they have a limited future. |

I don't remember her name, but there is a character in Elfen Lied that, at the age of twelve or thirteen, was often raped by her step father, and when she told her mother, her mother said that it was her own fault that her step father was doing that. After that, she ended up running away from home, and survived on mere bread crusts for an entire year without any house, or home. Idon't know what you think, but I feel that this story is one of the worst ones that I've heard in quite a while.  |

Damn... I have to agree with you all...O.o I'll add some, Rosette Christopher from chrno crusade... She had to die like that... Damn i hate to remember that T_T Oh yeah, have anyone watched grave of the fireflies? Those kids deserve some pity... And then Chiryuu Shingo from the manga girls saurus, for having a phobia for women while the women are all after him... That's totally sad Then Mai Otome's Nina Wong... Then Evangelion's Ikari Shinji. I guess it's tough enough to live against his will, but in the end he has to live in the world with only one woman left to accompany him... Then most girls in Shuffle... Okay i stop now -_- |

Sojiro Seta (Kenshin) Poor little boy, abused by his family, and then having his life saved by Shishio's madness! How could he go against those ideals that saved him, even knowing they were wrong? Shiro Amakusa (Ninja Ressurection) Never had a chance. An abused pawn of fate and the powers that be. |

I would have to say Nana from Elfen Lied. The circumstance surrounding her life was so awful that I could hardly believe that she was sane throughout the whole thing (she even had a somewhat upbeat outlook on it). Basically, ever since she was born she was locked up in a remote research center/prison and was forced to endure horrible and inhumane expirements and an extremely bad standard of living. She was basically treated worse than an animal with no say in it simply because she had a virus that gave her dangerous abilities and was only cared for by a man named Kurama. The only time she was given any freedom from the research center was to track down and use her abilities to kill/capture the main character and she only agreed to do it to make Kurama happy. When she did encounter the main character, she was vicously dismembered and left to die (if it wasn't for Kurama intervening and secretly helping her and freeing her from the research center). When she was finally free she was hunted down by the research center and if it wasn't for a group of people taking her in, she would have very well died. Actually pretty much every character in Elfen Lied has a crappy life.
You need a reason to be sad. You don't need a reason to be happy. The secret to happiness is to face the fact that the world is horrible.

 Yumi Komgata, once a high class prostitute, she found happiness only in death when (SPOILER IF YOU PLAN TO SEE KENSHIN) she was used as a "smokescreen" for Shishio to stab Kenshin, by thrusting the Mugenjin through her body! Of all of Shishio's army, she was the only member who actually allowed Shishio to attack Kenshin directly. And as she died, she metioned how happy she was then. For the Yumi fans! |

Actually, Gaara's circumstances seemed alot like Sephiroth's in Final Fantasy VII. (Though technically that wasn't an anime) Spoilers: Sephiroth was infused with the cells of an alien before being born, taken from his mother, who never even got to hold him, and raised as a weapon. |

I have to agree that Gunslinger Girls has pitiful characters. Their lives are nothing more than killing and missions, sad really. I don't really pity Sephiroth too much.    |

But the fact that he went insane and started with some sinister plan or crazy beliefs made me lose all pity for him. Since he went insane and started rambling on about destroying the world I lost any pity for him. Besides, he's the bad guy, not good to pity someone trying to kill you, it's only a quicker way to die. |

Yay! FF7 debate! This is fun! I think that Sephiroth's insanity makes him incapable of understanding the illogic of destroying the world. In that sense, I feel sorry for him too. The insanity wasn't his fault though! That is why you have to pity him, but I don't pity: Kefka Zeromus Ultimecia Garland I do pity Sephiroth though, and I really felt sorry for Ray from BoF2! Cloud pities Sephiroth in the movie too, BTW! "I pity you. You just don't get it!" (TO FF AC DUB HATERS: Yes, I watch it in English, got a problem?!!? Remember, I was there back in the FF1 days!) |

Well I don't care for Cloud's opinion, I'm a Vincent fan anyway.XD In my opinion I just can't find anything to pity about Sephiroth. Yes I have watched the movie and played the game several times but I still don't pity him. @Shishio- I watched it in English and Japanese, I don't see the problem with either. English was fine. |

Shishio, you didn't post in the thread. But thanks for all the graphics links! :D I am clicking with the kaleido-moon-scope! I think Sephiroth is pitiable because he's so messed up and alone. I would want to destroy the world too in his position. Do you also not pity Seymour? |

@Itachi- lol, good one. Got to agree, there's someone who should be pitied. Never liked Seymour really. Can't stand guys that you fight over and over and they always come back. |

I don't pity Seymour, he IS aware! Sephiroth was all alone, there is no one like him on Earth. Imagine being the only human in a world full of ants and they USED you, even your own mother (sort of), how would you respond? I felt like that in the "ghetto" growing up, being the only white/hispanic person surronded by idiots, homophobes, hateful people, etc. I can definetly see Sephiroth and Gaara's point of view! |

Hmmmm.... Gunslinger girls girls for sure, Kira from Mars, Kadaj (because he died and he was hot ^^ "MOTHER!!!!"), Roxas KH2 (I know I'm getting off track), Axel KH2, Bankotsu (InuYasha), and that's about it ^^ |
