HD Graphics Freak or Old School Gamer?

Basically, another name for PS3/360 vs Nintendo

Are you after better hardware and graphics and exciting shoot'em up games of the 21th century, or the crazy ideas and originality (and "childish" games) of the Nintendo we used to love?

I myself will certainly be getting the Nintendo Wii

That's a good question. Hands down I love old school games much more than most games today. But I can't ignore the excellent graphics of modern games. Now if they would only mix old school game play with nice graphics.. that would make me happy. These days it's hard to find anything worth playing or anything that is both challenging and engaging.

If I could, I'd get all 3 'next gen' consoles. But I'm a Sony fanboy, so I'll just settle for a PS3 .. for now. :P

I'm an old school kind of guy, so long as it's an interesting game I don't care about the graphics. I'm going to get a Nintendo Wii myself, however stupid the name sounds to an english speaker. Good marketing for the big N though, got everyone talking about it.

By the way, riceboks, one PC game that does the whole nice graphics with old school gameplay thing well is Darwinia, you can get it through Steam, it's really very nice.

Oh man, I totally forgot about Darwinia. I was going to try the demo when it came out a while ago, but never got around to it. Thanks for the recommendation!

*sighs* Nintendo hasn't figured out yet how to grow up, not a great deal, anyway. They gotta throw out a few heavy titles just to keep up. Like bad-ass RPGs, or something like that. Something hard and potent. Dramatic.

Not this silly shit! Hopefully the new Wii will do something along those lines, a stronger game repetoire for an older generation of players.

The controller for the Wii looks frikkin wierd.

graphix r all good... but it pisses me off when there is no work on the storyline, actual character potential and re-play value. i mean games are getting awfully exspensive... xbox360 games r leik $30 more exspensive then ps2 and xbox games. i cannot comment properly on this becoz i havent played xbox360 fully yet. but if this new generation is going to be this exspensive... they better not have budgetted on the basics..

i mean its kewl to have the graphics and surround sound n wot not... but i need games that i can juss keep playing... need games that are actually worth their price.

but yer.. im a sucker for graphix just as im a sucker for awesome characters! ill be getting a ps3 for sure! im very loyal to sony.

If your talking about Nintendo... well that's TOO old school... i like both old school graphics and 3d ones, so i like cel shading... f course when the game's character is based on real ppl (like MGS) it's better to use 3d graphics, but when it's an anime-adapted games or any games that's targeted for children, cel shading would be better... But they did a wonderful job on Kingdom Hearts though, to make a full 3d version of disney characters like that...

I love SEGA games the best. I still have my dreamcast and play it form time to time, the only reason it didn't do well was becasue it couldn't play DVD. If it could of it, it would of kicked PS2 butt. Old games are better then most of the new ones I think.

I like both types of games. I enjoy games with good graphics, but I also love the older looking games. I have games with good graphics like FFX, FFX-2 and Digital Devil Saga, but Digital Devil Saga was really the only one with good graphics and a captivating story and gameplay. I also have Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana and Atelier Iris 2. Both of them have 2-D anime like graphics but I still found them much better than FFX or FFX-2. I have played older games like Legend of Dragoon and Final Fantasy VII more times than all my other games combined. So overall I’d say that I don’t really care for graphics(In RPG’s), as long as it keeps me hooked.

For other games like FPS’s, I do want good looking graphics, but I consider myself an Old-School gamer.

(Me and my friends still play Duck Hunt and Super Mario a lot.^_^)
