Processor Speed

I have an old computer that I'm trying to get working with my high-speed internet(getting an Ethernet card and stuff like that). The only thing I need to know is the processor speed(part of my internet providers minimum requirments).

The processor is an AMD-K6 3D Processor. I want to know the speed of it or at least where to find the speed.

What type of operating system are you running to find out what the speed of the processor I have to know what operating system you are running before I can help you.

If you're running WinXP:

Right-click 'My Computer' -> properties

Then the system properties window pops up and the speed of your processor should be on the lower-right side.

I believe you can do the same thing. If not, then get into Control Panel, look for 'System' and 2x-click it.

@Rice Boks- Well actually those were the first two things I tried. It gives the name of the processor but not the speed of it.

the processor speed as if it means XXX mhz? well this may work.

when u immediately turn on the computer, there may be a black screen with logos and bunch of numbers popping out. try look for processor speed there; it should say something like 100 mHz or something. this may not appear if it's a new computer, but if it's old then it usually have this screen. be careful though, because this screen tend to pass by pretty fast, so you better have quick eyes lol ;)

Haha, didn't realize how old the processor was. If I'm looking up things right, it should be no more than 550MHz, the least being 500MHz.

A simple google search would've solved your problem a long time ago.. my bad. DX

Well there are about three versions of that processor and I usually came up with the 2nd or 3rd version on Google. Thanks for the info though.^_^

P.S. We have a newer computer, a good one, but it's in my parents room so I want to get the old one in my room running on high-speed. Just for more privacy and so my mom, dad and sister can't kick me off of it.^_^

If you want to see your PC Speed...

Right click the My Computer icon on your desktop, then click properties. Then your computer shows what OS do you have, Register Information, and importantly, the Speed of your computer (in MHz or GHz form), the RAM capacity, and your Chipset.

But the Internet speed is focus on your Modem Speed and your ISP (Internet Service Provider (better use DSL or Broadband).

But if you want to speed up your computer for your better internet surfing use, add your RAM, check your Hard disk speed, and overclock your Processor. But I'm giving you a warning, It can melt down your PC if the voltage you just twick is very high than the needed voltage of the CPU. (I use that technique to speed up my PC and Internet Access).

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I understand your feelings bro. I'm always getting antiques from the one who used it first (My parents have 3.2 GHz Computer, my Sis have 2.0 GHz Computer, but me have PII 300 MHz) Its UNFAIR!

Also, if you have Direct X at all on your machine (You probably do), go to the start menu, click run, and type in dxdiag.
It'll list all your computers specifications, including clock speed most of the time. If you've got a K6 I can say confidently you don't have more than 900Mhz, unless you've overclocked.

Beware the quiet people, You don't know their intentions
(small signatures are sooo much cooler since they don't annoy people trying to read through posts!)

@h4xor dude- Thanks, found it. To tell the truth I already installed the internet connection, but it's good know for future reference.

@Ruy Lopez- I got extra RAM from my friend, because he couldn't use it anymore. Gone from 32mb to 176mb.

Oh! Before I forgot, I want to ask you this...

"What RAM is compatible to your PC?"

I ask this because RAM can speed up your PC by its Capacity and ROM Speed (DDRRAM and SDRAM is good for me)

I've already upgraded the RAM actually. I did it a few days ago. I don't think there is any particular type, anything with 3-connectors seems to work with it.
