This thread if for discussion of the upcoming sequel to Tales of Sumeria. Though Tales of Sumeria is still chugging forward, I thought it would be best to get the problems faceing Turn Based RPing alleviated as soon as possible. This thread is open to the public for viewing and discussion. Please feel free to read over and give your suggestions. Input is greatly appreciated.

I'm following some sort of schedule for things I want to discuss and solve. Here's a sort of list. Very much subject to change based on my wims!

1 Battle System

a. Attack Calculations (We basically said that each action in a skill contributes to the sum of the total damage, Eg. 1 Slash = + 1 Phys atk)

@Kazuya, you'll need to change the name for your Masamune. my character has been using a Masamune from the beginning of the RP and the occasional Muramasa.

A few weeks after Kay died in a battle with the god Loki, Alice gave Cthaqa her powers. Ithuqa inherited Alice's Goddess of Life status. Cthaqa and Ithuqa can become a choker when Kay wishes them to. Cthaqa and Ithuqa are now 2nd Lieutenant in the Blue Moon familty.

Note:Cthaqa and Ithuqa will level up only when Kay level up. Cthaqa attack is 100 points more than Kay's while Ithuqa's Intelligence is 100 points more than Kay's when they go to battle.

    • Maximus Abilitus -increase strength, agility and reaction time. Casted person will be able to attack 10 times at once
    • Restoration -stabs sword to ground as light engulfs party, fully recovering HP and MP
    • Dimensional Negation, Gigano Radusu(Dimensional Magic) -Throws Eternal Fencer to the ground while in mid-air, causing a magic circle to be formed. Then, user forms a quasi-like sphere in his hand and threw at the sword.
    • Disperse(Dimensional Magic) -To be used with Dimensional Negation, Gigano Radusu. As soon as the quasi-like sphere touches the sword, it'll break enemy's created closed space. When used when only Level GA seal is realease, it will consume 50% mana. Higher level seals will consume lesser.

about the class:-
Swordsman -Mostly uses attacking and defensive skills. Can't use magic unless using a magical property weapon. front line.
Mage/Sorceress -Mostly uses Black Magic to attack and White Magic to heal. Although they can buffer a character, the effect is lower than those of a Buffer class. stands at mid or furtherst range
Buffer (also called a Red Mage)-Support type character. Uses buffer type magic to help increase the party's power. Can use White Magic but not Black Magic. stands at furthest range
Gunslinger -Uses attacking skills which increases accuracy. Can use a buffer's accuracy type magic but effect is low attack from mid-range to far.
Archer -Same as gunman, except archers attack from a far location.
Sword Mage -same as Magic Swordsman, except this type use sword type magic
Magic Swordsman -a swordsman and mage combined. able to use some basic Black, White and Buffer magic.
Martial Artist -Similar to swordsman, except has more mana(has as much HP as Swordsman and almost has as much MP as a Mage). Mainly uses mana type skills.
Genesis -can use all types of weapons and skills. but at a limit. this type is a balance of all class, excluding Maestro.
Eidel Raid -
Eidel Raid Pleasure -
Maestro (only one person can own this title, and that's the ghost residing inside Kay) -Master of all skills. This title is given to only one person who has the blessings of the gods

Skill Assigning:
When you create a skill, please input it as how i did it...reason being, you'll need them for the damage calculating. here's the format:
Skill Name (mastery (in %. put in 'Mastered' for 100%), MP, number of times this skill attacks). you can put om a description of the skill if you want, but that's optional.

Damage Calculator:

Normal Physical Attacks: (Total Power x 5) - Enemy's defence x Skill Mastery= damage inflicted +- 200 [this is for attacking player characters}

Normal Physical Attacks:((Total Power x 10) + 1000)) / 3 x Skill Mastery= damage inflicted +- 200 [this is for attacking monsters and boss monsters]

Note: Normal Physical Attacks includes skills that inflicts physical damage either to group or single enemy. if your skill has multiple damages, multiply the damage inflicted by the number of multiple damages.

Special Attacks: ((Total S.Attack + Intelligence) x 3) - Enemy's S.Defense xSkill Mastery= Damage inflicted +- 500 [for attacking player characters]

Special Attacks: (((Total S.Attack + Intelligence)x6) +1000) / 3.5 xSkill Mastery= Damage inflicted +- 500 [for attacking monsters and boss monsters]

Note: the same as Physical Attacks if your characters uses skills with multiple damages.

Magic:((Intelligence + S.Attack) + 1000) xSkill Mastery = Damage Inflicted.

ok, you're getting confused by looking at these numbers, i know...so here's a little explanation on how to use them. so, you decided to use a magic skill, you whipped out a calculator and then, no idea what to do. lookie here...let's use my character's status to calculate

(Intelligence + S.Attack) + 1000) - Skill Mastery = Damage Inflicted
((551 + 388)+1000) - Skill Mastery = Damage Inflicted
1939 x Skill Mastery = Damage Inflicted

ok, here where things get a little sticky. as you can see, there's something called 'Skill Mastery'. my character's wanting to use 'Metal Storm, but he only mastered is at 87%, so you input 'Skill Mastery' as how much the skill is mastered (in percentage). so here's what i'll get

1939 x Skill Mastery = Damage Inflicted
1939 x 87% = Damage Inflicted
1939 x 87%=1687

therefore, my character will attack an enemy with 1687 damage points. if he had mastered the skill, he'll attack with 1939.

take note that collective skills will have a different calculation set. also, special attack will also have a different calculation set. for collective and special attack, you can make your own calculation as long as it's not beyond the limits

Collective Skills:
Everyone can use Collective skills. Firstly, Collective is like what you call...Limit Break in Final Fantasy. Your main skill, like Attack or Magic, will change to Collective. If you're a Mage, your Magic will turn into Collective. A swordsman will have his Attack to Collective. To be able to use Collective, you must first indicate how you got Collective(in my chara's case, the Part where I fight Gin in the Blue Moon). From there on, you can use Collective only when you have 20% HP left. Once your HP reach 20%, you'll automatically activate Collective and your HP and MP will auto recover itself to 9999 points. You can only activate Collective once in each battle.
You can only have a maximum of 10 Collective Skills and Collective will only last for 5 to 6 rounds. When you're in Collective Mode, your HP and MP will reach to the maximum, aka, 9999HP and 9999MP.All stats like Attack, Defence, Agility etc will increase by 200 points. You're also immune to poisons and other effects like sleep and paralysis.

@Kay: Wow.. that's all I have to say (in a good way!). It might take me a while with the damage calculator. I dont think everyone will post their defense and such, but it's still a useful idea.

@All: I'm also asking that you all make a "BASE SKILL TREE: for your characters (EG. basic blade weilding, basic arrow weilding, bassic gunnery, etc.) This has the basic attacks most often used and requires no mana (like slash, fire arrow, etc.) Seeing that though you all have wonderful abilities, you should know the basics attacks of your weapons at least!


(add more later, kinda in a hurry right now)

@Kay: Done, and yeah, I agree, I'll update the character requirements in a bit. For Karuzo's and My character's. Also I think you should list the possible subtypes, Edil Raid and Edil Raid Pledger. I'm still working on other secondary character's profiles. ON a final note, there is a "guard" in each basic skill tree. How it works is explained here:

GUARD (when an enemy attacks the damage delt is subtracted by your defense EX: ATK DMG=500 Defense=500 TOTAL TOTAL DAMAGE DEALT: 0) There is also a chance you can deal your own damage: (ATK DMG= 500 DEF= 900 Attacker takes 400 Damage instead!) But keep in mind, it only is in effect if you has played "Guard" before the opponent attacked.

@ Karuzo: I updated the location of your profile, now it links to the one here, so you dont need to go update the one back in the old thread.

@All: also I'm writing up summaries of character's influence in the previous season. (so they know why exactly Gin hates Kay, etc.) You can write your summary for your character's impact on the previous series. Or ask me to do so. If you write your own, please just PM it to me. The character season 1 summary thing will be saved for later. Right now the first arc is more like a 'Tutorial Level' More details on that will be put in later, however the 'teacher' will be pirate leader Kay. (hope you dont mind, but you seem more faliiar with the battle system then I am Kay) Like i said before the first parts are quite linear. I dont mean to be a control freak, but before we can move with the story I want to be sure everyone is familiar with the turn based battle system.

Arc 1 Starts the New Character's off on a Blue Moon Pirate Ship: APS Valient (Given to the blue moon pirates by their benifactors in Nome . The new charactes are captured form a recent raid. Here they're taught how to fight using the turn based battle system. Afterwards, because of an 'incident' they are free to choose whether to remain with the Blue Moon Pirates or go off on their own. Afterwards is when the real story starts up.

EDIT: Shia's Profile Finished, also includes a list of her edil raid spells. (the 3rd and 4th symphonies are classified until you fight her yourself) Oh and if you're wondering why she has green hair, the shia's in each have different hair color (EG. Hauton Shia has blue hair, Love Hina Shia has Brown hair, etc.)

EDIT 2: Made an Opening Screen Just like in the games. The guy in the pic isnt Kay. (unless you want him to be) simply did this out of boredom. So what you guys think?

@ Kay: Yeah, I got the same feeling that it was you in that picture, and with the airship in the backround it was the best candidate for making the screen from.

We're kinda supposed start up by due Spring. But we can start up early if all the confusion with the battle system is checked down. At the earliest we can start maybe a week or two before the beggining of spring break for my part of the world (I'll PM everyone when I open the thread). I cant start up too early since I have about 4 books to read and do reports on. The first tutorial fight will probably be structured in a way that goes though the basics of a fight. (you can have all the trainees or Ken go up against you to show them how things go) Oh right, the tutoruial starts up once the cast is finalized. How you want the tutorial to go can be discussed now. Also I wonder, you think it would be easier just to recruit people now so they can have a good amount of time to be clarified on how everything works? I wonder...

Alright this is Ugopetamia! This RP uses a rather different kind of battle system. Think turn based fighting like in final fantasy! How exactly we do it will be explained later.

 Hey! You wanna know a cheatcode? Course! Type [TEHHEARTOFPWNAGE] at the beggining of a battle to gain infinate HP and MP for that battle! (can only be used once by the person who types it in first)

Here's the basic story:

You rode an airship bound for the City of Celestia in the country of Sumeria. However mid-flight, the ship is raided by pirates, the last thing you remember is a ship with a blue moon flag, then you where taken prisoner aboard one of the pirate airships. Deprived of your weapons you have no way to escape.(unless you'd like to jump from 5000 meters to the ground) Strangely though the pirates instead recruit you and all the passengers into their crew, whether you liked it or not,, You where now a Blue Moon pirate trainee, you either accept or quietly despise the idea of being with the pirates. After a month, all the passengers have had ample training in whatever weapon they chose, and all are about to get their first fight against one of the blue moon captains. Sitting in the galley with people who had grown from that person who was in the next room over to your comrades in battle. You all wait for the fight that inevitably will come.

For now here are the requirements for a profile:

Mage/Sorceress -Mostly uses Black Magic to attack and White Magic to heal. Although they can buffer a character, the effect is lower than those of a Buffer class. Stands at mid or furthest range
Buffer (also called a Red Mage)-Support type character. Uses buffer type magic to help increase the party's power. Can use White Magic but not Black Magic. Stands at furthest range
Gunslinger -Uses attacking skills which increases accuracy. Can use a buffer's accuracy type magic but effect is low attack from mid-range to far.
Archer -Same as gunman, except archers attack from a far location.
Sword Mage -same as Magic Swordsman, except this type use sword type magic
Magic Swordsman -a swordsman and mage combined. Able to use some basic Black, White and Buffer magic.
Martial Artist -Similar to swordsman, except has more mana(has as much HP as Swordsman and almost has as much MP as a Mage). Mainly uses mana type skills.
Genesis -can use all types of weapons and skills. but at a limit. this type is a balance of all class, excluding Maestro.
Maestro (only one person can own this title, and that's the ghost residing inside Kay) -Master of all skills. This title is given to only one person who has the blessings of the gods

LVL (Level): (Also, don’t just make your character 100+ levels over the rest of the cast, it just isn’t right man... NOTE: the max level for starting characters can be is 20.)
STATS: (here are your stats. These will determine several things in a battle (like who attacks before of after you) also remember the limit is 999. Also keep in mind with your class. You can’t be a person who wears painfully heavy armor, and have a 800 speed! Just try to be fair to the others when listing your stats. (by looking at their own profiles) Of course don’t make yourself utterly weak (unless you're way below level to the other characters)

Attack: (how strong your character is)
Defense: (decides how much defense is in)
Speed: (character's speed, affects which character attacks first)
Intelligence: (affects strength of magic spells)
Special Attack:
Special Defense:
Luck: (has subtle effects on various things in a battle and in other situations)
Next level: (how many more experience points to the next level)

SKILL TREES: Alright here is where you got to pull your imagination out a bit. Your skill trees is where all of your techniques are listed. You're allowed to make up or borrow spells and techniques from other games and anime. But don’t hoard them all to yourself, or make yourself overpowered. Remember for your spells they have a mana cost. So be sure to list how much MP is lost when casting it. And also make sure you make a couple trees for all your attack. (Simply put, a simple "slash" attack and "SUPER APOCALYPSE UBER SPELL ATTACK" do NOT belong under the same skill tree)

Skill Tress are Structured Like this: (And remember, try to have some degree of originality *though you are allowed use skills and attacks from other RPG games*)

* (SKILL NAME)

* (ATTACKS AND SPELLS GO HERE) *remember, give a description of the attack and how many hits it scores, and if it's a magical attack, how much mana is lost.

* (NOTES AND REQUIREMENTS (EX: A BOW, SPECIAL ITEM, ETC.))

Oh, before I forget, it is also required for all characters to have the "base skill tree" which lists the most basic attacks dependent on your weapon. A few have already been made:

BASIC BLADE WIELDING (USED BY ANYONE WHO WIELDS A BLADE)

SLASH (a basic attack, which you attack an enemy with your sword)
QUICK SLASH (a speedy version of slash, increased chance to score a critical hit)
LUNGE (attacks the enemy with a straight stab, very accurate)
GUARD (increased chance to when an enemy attacks, the damage dealt is subtracted by your defense EG: ATK DMG=500 Defense=500 TOTAL DAMAGE DEALT: 0) There is also a chance you can deal your own damage: (ATK DMG= 500 DEF= 900 Attacker takes 400 Damage instead!) But keep in mind, it only is in effect if you has played "Guard" before the opponent attacked.
MULTIPLE ATTACK LVL /10 (increases the chance to score multiple hits when attacking)

(Notes: *Requires Bladed Weapon*)

Basic Bow Mastery (USED BY BOWMEN)

Strafe (basic attack, attack enemy once with an arrow)
Charged Strafe (a much more powerful version of strafe, needs one turn to charge, has a low chance of scoring critical hit)
Double Strafe (Attack with 2 arrows at once, normal damage x 2)
Guard (increased chance to when an enemy attacks, the damage dealt is subtracted by your defense EG: ATK DMG=500 Defense=500 TOTAL DAMAGE DEALT: 0) There is also a chance you can deal your own damage: (ATK DMG= 500 DEF= 900 Attacker takes 400 Damage instead!) But keep in mind, it only is in effect if you has played "Guard" before the opponent attacked.
Arrow Shower (increases the chance to score multiple hits when attacking)

Rapid Shower (increase the chance to score multiple hits when attacking)

i forgot to mention something...i think for those who just joined, they'll have to start out at level 20. then they'll slowly level up from there. (just like in a game, new characters don't suddenly jump up to level 50++. I'm following games like Arc the Lad and .hack fyi)

also, you'll need to add in the Damage Calculator in the RP's first post.

another point, like in the previous RP, our characters had only one strong points, like Strength for Gin, and Speed for Kay. the other characters should also have one strength. but of course there'll be limitations.

oh yea....i think it's better off if all were to put down their character's profiles here, instead of in the RP thread

@ Kay: The damage calculator will be edited in once the 1st arc begins, for now I'm trying not to overload newcomers. With putting their profiles here, this thread was originally just for clearing up confusion on season 2, once the thread got moving I was planning to delete this, but now come to think of it it my also come in handy for storing character profiles. I might ask them to post and edit their profiles here after Arc 1 is completed. And finally I agree on the "cant jump to 50 rule, I'll be sure to edit that in.

@ Karuzo yours almost checks out, just remember to put in the MP costs for each of your spell and it'll pass manimum requirements.

@ Zparticus heres some answers in Q/A format.

Q: how to level up?

A: (If you notice up in the character qreuirements in the new thread, one of your stats is "next level")

Q: how skills are learned

A: (You start off with a few skills you already know, you can learn skills obver time or get it taught from some other character)

Q: do i make my own skills

A: (Yes it is highly encouraged, though it is allowed to have 1 or 2 skills borrowed from an RPG or anime)

Q: and do we have stats here?

A: (Yes, please refer to the opening post in "A Wandering Path 2: TOS thread which lists out all the required stats)

Q: or points needed for learning skills?

A: (We havent made any sort of system like that yet, once again you can learn skills as you level up, over time more powerful attcks are added to your "Skill Tree")(So lets say Gin was level 1, and his skill tree would have only weak attacks. But now as he levels up, more powerful attacks are added as time goes on.)

(so in short you control what skills and attacks your character knows, (once again they can be made up or "borrowed" from an RPG or anime. More powerful attacks are added based on your character's current level.) Just remember to be fair to the other player and keep your current level in mind. ^^)
