Umm, but the textures are in images format (like .png, .jpeg and stuffs~). So does that mean I have to make patterns instead? Since I do just like how you told me to do but the textures don't appear since it's not in .pat format. Ah~! This is hard. I might as well give up since I don't even know the real use of patterns and textures~~ (No wonder why I think it be a lot easier when I just dl brushes and load it in PS...)

@Kanayuki: try this: open that particular file(.png,.bmp,.jpeg~blah).. then go to Edit > Define Pattern, then it's temporarily(?) saved in the pattern library.. Q> What is an effective way to extract images? My extractions always have white parts in them always.. |

Talk about extracting images (to png)~~ I have a question bout it. Remember everytime when u vist a graphic site and look at the pngs, you find the backgrounds is colourful~~ I just wanna know how to do the preview of the pngs to be colourful. See http://aethereality.net for example. And again, the more I asked the more confusing I got. The textures, what exactly their work? Can they blend in with an avatar base and add the textures and done? Or it can't? I just don't understand what exactly is the purpose of the patterns and textures. And C ~スーパーSMILE, I think your advice work well but I don't get the use of it. The question is up there~~ Thanks for answering the question. I'm a newbie when it comes to patterns, gradients, textures and stuff. Brushes are fine with me~!

@kanayuki: I didn't understand you're question ^^, lol.. but you're welcome for thanking me ^^, and the png preview is err.. I think that is something that isn't related to Photoshop but to html and stuff... and err textures.. do you mean [textures] filters? |

I meant the textures that have .png/.jpeg format thing. I use your advice and was able to turn the textures into patterns. But my real question is, what exactly the patterns used for? I tried to do it on the avatar, but it won't work. So I wanna know what is the main function of the patterns. Patterns and textures are the same, right?

@kanayuki: XD I'm getting abit loopy... you can make a new layer, then use the paint bucket tool, then change settings from "foreground" to "pattern" then change the pattern and fill the layer with that pattern.. or you can make a pattern overlay thru blending options.. well depends on how you use it.. textures and patterns are the same in one way in photoshop.. X_X hope that answers some of your queries lol |

Quick post before I leave. *in school* Imppy, well mines is an upgrade version, so it's the newest version of 'CS2'. That might be the difference here. ;P

sorry bout abandoning you guys C: @ Kanayuki textures and patterns for photoshop are at different format they are .pat format so in order to let them be available for effective purposes you must download the .pat format you can download them here. I suggest use the "overlay" effect so the layer will be visible. You can still put .pngs and .jpegs types of textures but it wouldn't turn out great. hope that helps ^^ if you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask textures and patterns are really effective on your artwork C: look at this: ![]() That one was my sketch, but noticed that sketchy, rough look as if it was sketched on a canvas? that's a pattern I've just downloaded X3 see how effective it turns out? here is the image when there is still no pattern: ![]() looks kinda dull that way isn't it? XD |

Just sharpen more of the lines. Some areas still look like they've been shaded with the pencil and not the Photoshop pencil, too. XD

You see that drop down box that says, "Normal" or "Mulitply" or "screen" on the Blending Options window? click that there will be options there on how the blend will be. Choose "Overlay" everything would be fine C: |
