Episode 20! Damm, I was hoping for Botan to display one of his seven skills(ruby ball) again, in that size, and Kyou doing the throwing right in Tomoya's face. Seems like Kyou is the one hinting to Tomoya about her being Ushio's teacher. After like 4 episodes of crying, the Tomoya scene in Fuuko's imagination is pure hilarious. Fuuko, your imagination is still as wild as ever. And I guess Clannad is coming to an end... Time to order another carton of tissue boxes for the last few episodes... And I cant believe that I posted this faster than Izumo. ^^; |

Xiao-san Yeah, i can't believe it either XDDD! A nice change of pace for the most part that is episode 20. Alot more pleasant in terms of emotional impact. I really liked the addition of the song 'Komorebi' in the episode. The song with the same melody as Ushio. One of my fave image songs. Gee...i missed those Fuko induced moments that were so abundant in the first series. Even after her long absence she still has it doesn't she. Love the alien dialogue (with Fuko & Ushio having dango heads!), the end of the world chat, that whole scene with Fuko in general was pure WIN! Awww...Botan is all grown up now, yeah it is a shame that for the most part the anime doesn't show his skills at all. And with Kyou, well she's still the Kyou we know & love. So which version do you guys/gals like? Young Kyou or Older Kyou? Another fave scene is when Tomoya sings Dango to Ushio....a very touching moment when at the end both are holding the dango stuff. Anyways last part of the episode well i don't really have to explain it to you guys. By now everyone should know what is coming up! *Dammit ALL!!* |

@izumo: Young Kyou with small botan. "Botan, one of your seven skills, Ruby Ball!!!" *smacks tomoya with botan* You can see from the second Kyou appearance that her personality is reverting back to tsundere. =P Hmm, since when Botan's name has been changed to Nabe.... Ryou's influence? XD Yea that dango scene... Poor Tomoya, he still misses Nagisa a lot lot. And I hoped that you have bought enough tissue boxes too. >_<" |

See, this is why they should have had Kyou as the main route for the anime AND the game. She's one of the few girls in the series that has honest to goodness CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. Nagisa has a very small amount of development in the first series with building the courage to start the club, but for the whole rest of the show and After Story (when she was in it) didn't change at all. Kyou's slow evolution from mostly violent to mostly really nice would've been awesome if we could have seen it in my opinion... not to mention their kid probably would've been pretty damn cool too...I can picture him/her being more like a mini Yoshino Yusuke...lol.

Izumo's pretty much said all I needed to say really, but there are moments I loved. This was a good episode. I love Kyou, I've always loved her a lot. It's good to see her again and now that she's back, she might be in touch with Tomoya more often, which is good. It's hard to choose between High School Kyou and Fujiyabashi-sensei, but I will say Fujiyabashi-sensei is really sweet, caring, and looks more gorgeous than before. Obviously, she's grown quite a lot and looks more beautiful, and speaking of growing indeed, look at friggin' BOTAN! It's like he evolved. Talk about all his moves and stuff from before makes me believe he's a Pokemon or something, which'd be pretty awesome. :P Ushio's cuteness is just spawning every episode. I love her father-daughter interactions and meetings, it's just cute every time. The scene where Tomoya sings Dango Daikazoku is pretty tear dropping. I still understand it, regardless of it being five years since that dark day. Fuuko's original behavior from season one is back and just changes the sad mood. Her randomness and obnoviously, out-of-the-world-imagination is always the best. The part where the Dango plushies are on their head is kind of funny. I wonder why Ushio is even allowed to leave the house when Tomoya's not home. Even though it's Japan and they live in a small town, it's always a danger factor but she seems to manage on herself. It'd be nice to see Kyou & Tomoya together, since that'd make life a lot happier in that relationship aspect, but nobody will ever replace Nagisa and I'm not sure if Tomoya will ever re-marry. That's always such a personal, personal decision to make, especially if the reason for the marriage breaking is a loss. Ushio getting a fever was surely unexpected in my eyes. I hope this doesn't lead to more bad news, but seeing After Story being consumed with moments like this, I don't know what to expect, but can't wait to expect it (in a good way...). [EDIT] [@h4xor] I totally understand you, 100%, and I kind of agree, though I loved Nagisa as my favorite girl, but Kyou was definitely in my top 3 or so, maybe she was my #2 after all and might be after this.

Ahh many cuteness in this episodes... Big Botan, Fuuko's antics, Alien dango... I'm satisfied :D Not to mention awesome songs are playing here as well. I also like Komorebi, personally. and here we go again towards the worst part. Well, i'll be ready for it... Anyway, what's with ushio strolling to the hospital? She's like being possessed or something... |

Wasn't that the place Akio-san used to go often? It was the open field before the hospital got built there. Oh, also wanna add. Anybody see any of the live videos of the KSL Live World 2008 concert yet? I'm dying to see these live.

@ DAngel-san I don't think there is a video release of the KSL concert, i've been looking all over for it, checking websites whatnot...nothing. Only the CD version is available. Yeah the hospital is now on the place that Akio went to discover the miracle that occured with Nagisa. It was his secret place & he use to go there all the time. Now that the hospital is there not so much. I won't say anything on why Ushio goes there cause there is a connection obviously. You just have to watch & see for yourselves. *sidenote* Now that the hospital i complete...will we get to see another familiar face show up?....maybe.... @ Xiao-san Hahaha!! probably that is where Botan got his new name from or it could be just Ushio's childess imagination. I have to check back to the game to find out exactly. And yes i do have my supply ready, but i'll never truly be ready for it anyways T__T! @ h4xor-san True many of the characters has better character development than Nagisa, but i believe it is unfair to critize Nagisa cause she is the one that is held back by her sickness. We don't see alot of her growth cause it is limited by it, if the other characters has this flaw put upon them will everyone have the same judgement on them? Kyou & all the other characters are great characters in there own right, don't get me wrong....i absolutely LOVE all of them equally. Remember the After Story segment is mainly focused on Nagisa (& Ushio) to show more of her character...yes she didn't really change that much, but maybe that is what her character is suppose to be like. The calming influence to Tomoya....the one who will change his life for the better. Is it so hard to believe that there is a girl like Nagisa (one with not many faults & genuinely a nice person)? Personally i wish there were more girls like her. |

That whole "sickness" thing is part of what bugged me about Nagisa. It seemed like they just used it as a cheap gimick so they wouldn't have to make her do stuff at times. I know plenty of frail people that are very active, so if they really just wanted to get the whole weak trait across, there were other methods that they could have chosen that weren't quite so cheap... That said, I never really cared too much for Tomoyo either. She's a very interesting character, especially at first, but she never really changes much. She does exactly what you'd expect her to, and not really anything more. Her OVA was pretty damn cool nonetheless, but I just wanted to say it's not so much whether a character is frail or not that matters, but what they decide to do with them, and unfortunately Kyoani didn't really tap into a lot of the good potential many of the characters had.

-.- Yeah, I kind of agree with h4xor dud3. Though I've just learned to accept it in anime, since it's such a typical occurrence, the whole sickness thing just seems like a way to scoot around the issues or to er...dispose of them easily. -_- Anyway, I've been doing some thinking and been wondering what this sickness exactly could be, thinking on a practical note. Makes me kinda think of AIDS, you know incurable disease that decreases the immune system. -.- Kind of off topic but just putting that out there for my own amusement. XD |

it can't be AIDS because Tomoya didn't get infected and i think AIDS doesn't show it's symptoms until you get quite older, i can be wrong there. main heroine from key's anime always get unidentified disease...

I Love Air, Kanon and Clannad. The Story is overwhelmingly touching and something that surpass the original harem theme. Clannad After Story is somewhat an expanded version of the Movie plus its sequel. The only laid back I see here is how KEY loves to let their main heroine die... (same in air... almost in kanon)but overall, I like the anime a lot.

@ h4xor-san Oh i love a good argument....no offence if i have to disagree with you. So you are telling me that you have the same feeling towards Ayu & even Misuzu cause they are also given the 'sickness' or 'tragic ending' cliche. It has been a staple of Key visual novels to have a character to be given some sort of life alternating dilemma (you've played Little Busters haven't you...same thing is present in that game although you don't find out until the very end)...i believe the new game 'ReWrite' will also have this scenario. Giving a character a 'fault' often can highten the emotional impact once you realize that he/she may not make it after you spend so much time getting to know them in the series. ![]() True Nagisa doesn't do a whole lot of activity in the anime but it was all not cause of the sickness but the fact she didn't have any friends to to things with. Before meeting Tomoya she was always alone...you saw it yourself. When everyone graduated & Nagisa had to repeat another year...you saw how difficult it was for her. Even when she wanted to make friends it was hard for her. People who are alone with nobody around will usually tend to do nothing cause they see no point in doing so. Meeting Tomoya opened her up, giving her the courage to be able to make friends, have courage (performing the play), all the way to her battle to give birth to Ushio. Sometimes people need at least one person to make them realize what they can do. You say that you did't really see alot of change in Nagisa throughout the series....personally i think she is the person (other than Tomoya) that has the biggest change in the series. That's just my opinion though. @ Jow-san There has been numeous debates on what exactly is the disease that Nagisa has...although the true identity of it is unkown cause that just how Key visual novel's are. The most prominent i've heard is some sort of Cancer (possibly leukemia)..to a lesser degree Heart disease. Both these are the highest leading cause of death in the world so it is the most likely choice. The high fever Nagisa suffers from can be early signs of cancer...don't want to say it but it may be derived from Aki's smoking. 2nd hand smoke is just as dangerous. Cancer has no age limit as well for it can affect anybody young or old. It extremely weakens the individual which may explain why Nagisa is such a weak character in terms of health. Anyways that is one possibility. ******************************* Anyways time to work on the 2nd thread...last few days the thread picked up....Thanks again everyone!!! *sidenote* Has anyone wondered if at the end of the CLANNAD series we will get some sort of special announcement like what they did when KANON 2006 ended...showing that CLANNAD was gonna be made into an anime series. I wonder & hope that after CLANNAD a promo for LITTLE BUSTERS! will be shown! How cool will that be!! Ummm...Sorry Suzumiya fans that may delay the 2nd season even more XD |

@izumo: Maybe a tomoyo after, since that needs less work, and they have started on tomoyo's route(ep24). Maybe another gap of 2 years for Little Busters! to debut =P Looking from another point of view, maybe KyoAni still does not have enough cash to pay Tanigawa for Haruhi. =P Anyways, ep21.... I felt so depressed, since theres only one more episode left... Sigh. This is sooo depressing. And +1 cryfest. ;_; |

dsSooo... I haven't seen 21 yet. I take it Ushio probably dies? Dammit Key... you sadistic narcissists... @izumo: First I just want to say that anything I say is purely my opinion and the way I analyze it, I'm not trying to start an argument, though I don't mind a friendly debate. Second, I'm not saying you have to think anything. All I was really trying to say deep down is "Come on Key, give us a little variation every once in a while please?". Every time it seems that the characters start getting somewhere in their relationship, they stop all progress by making one of them fall ill with something and then kill 'em off one way or another or something... Personally I think Tomoya had by far the most development and that Nagisa had very little. My reasoning is you see Tomoya go from delinquent, to friendly helper, to competent worker, to good husband, and then they even give him more personality by having him backtrack when Nagisa dies, only to eventually snap out of it and slowly move on, and then even man up enough to reconcile with his father. Nagisa goes from no motivation for getting up the hill to school (until Tomoya convinces her), to not motivated enough to start the drama club (until Tomoya convinces her), to needing everyone's help to figure out what she wants to do in the club, to not being able to give her performance without some motivational help (from her father). Time skip to when they start living together, Nagisa.....cooks. And talks to Tomoya after work when he's a zombie... She gets a job sure, and then the two get a little bold (I can almost guarantee it was Tomoya's idea...) getting Nagisa pregnant. Through all of that, what part of her changed? Her personality never changed at all, even when Tomoya was practically ignoring her after work for that one part, and the only emotion invoked in terms of feeling sorry for Nagisa was only an implied one (it's not like we ever see Nagisa actually cry or get noticeably sad over it). She started off as the type who needed people cheering her on in order to convince her enough to do something about anything, and she ended pretty much the same (she took a job on her own, but come on, over 36 episodes and that's all??). Hell, KYOU had more personality development and we barely see her! It's a pity we never got to saw any in-between stuff or got a route option for her After Story in the game... Once again though, this is all how I see it. I'm not so rash as to believe it's the sole valid objective view...

@ h4xOr-san Yeah i guess argument was the wrong word to use, friendly disagreement is more fitting i imagine. I have no problems with Key rehashing the same premise all the time cause they make up for it by creating memorable moments that are endearing. You remember the events exactly what happens even years after the series is over like AIR. Even though it was a great series in it's own right, everyone seems to remember that Mizusu 'dies' in it. I guess what i'm getting at is the use of 'illness' adds more sympathy for the character striken with it as well as having a lasting effect regardless if it is overused. As for the subject of Nagisa being developed, you have to remember that she & Tomoya are linked. What happens with Tomoya is cause of Nagisa & vice versa. The reasons that you mentioned about Tomoya is all cause of Nagisa...Tomoya would still be his 'bad' self if it wasn't for meeting her. The epilogue in episode 21 even described Tomoya before meeting Nagisa. Even in the game without interacting with her first the scenarios for the other characters wouldn't have happened. Without meeting Nagisa you wouldn't have gotten Kyou's, Tomoyo's, Kotomi's & Fuko's routes in the game. Is it so hard to believe that Nagisa is just that kind of person? She's a genuinely nice person that's all. All the heroines in the game has their own personalites...so Kyou is more hyper-active than the others, while Tomoyo is tomboyish, Fuko the typical loli. Knowing which girl one likes is basically showing their preference in the opposite sex. Since you prefer Kyou you like someone who is alot more active than someone quiet. Anyways got off-topic a bit. I'm not sure what more you want from the development of Nagisa....she over the course of the series has grown up alot. She despite her lack of motivation/health has become a really strong character over time. One still has to act even if they are being motivated. Sure Tomoya has something to do with it but she could've easily just continued to be in her usual routine. She cares for the well-being of others...even to the point of giving up on the drama club cause of the choir club's sake. She keeps Tomoya from swaying to his old ways, offering her home so Tomoya can find the right time to reconcile with his father. As the series went on we slowly see her go from a shy timid girl to a mature women. Correction it was Nagisa's dream to have a child not Tomoya's idea remember? There was also no hesitation when Tomoya proposed to her, she replied almost instantly...the old Nagisa would've been different. Love is a powerful emotion...even if there are many hardships that occur she remains constant in her feelings for Tomoya. She never wavered for one second even up to the point of her death. Everything she did was for Tomoya or for the sake of Tomoya...although you can say it was the same vice versa. She cried when Tomoya & Sunohara fought, she accepted her school life even in reality it was difficult for her, she got drunk for heavens sake. Don't you wanna have that kind of commitment from your spouse as well? I certainly do... Not to knock on Kyou (cause i love her as well) but even in the game Tomoya says after seeing her as a teacher, her personality is still the same as when she was in school. Whether you like Nagisa or not it's your opinion which I guess we see her character growth differently. I understand your gripe about her so we agree to disagree about it. @ Xiao-san Just like the first season there will be a re-cap episode & a DVD only release...which i wonder what it will be. Definitely looking forward to whatever next Key series that maybe in the works that's for sure. *********************** As Xiao-san mentioned only 1 more episode to go....it's been one hell of a ride don't you think? Episode 21 speaks for itself so not much to explain about it...it has the same impact as it did in the game...identical scene for scene...even up to the point of Ushio's last words. That's what 'killed' me originally & even now i still get choked up hearing her say it in the anime. It's just so heartbreaking to see such a little one get sick....kinda makes me realize why i'm so involved in children's charities to begin with. Nothing hurts more than seeing your child succumb to an illness. Like what they say....The most difficult thing for a parent is to see their child pass away. Can't imagine what Tomoya was going through during that scene..... Anyways the last episode will make everything you saw up to this point all clear, as it will explain the journey Tomoya has/will go through. It will definitely make up for all the tradgedy you saw during the series....once you see the outcome you'll have this fuzzy feeling inside of you :). ***Note*** Once the series is over the CLANNAD thread will be renamed to the CLANNAD fanclub. The new thread will be opened for posting as soon as i finish this one. Old & New members will be added if you are interested in continuing discussing about this series as well as Key games in general. Let's make it so the legacy of CLANNAD lives on forever! |

1000th post in this topic! @izumo One week is a long time... Even though the past few episodes seemed to pass in a blink of an eye... Too emotional I guess >_< @h4xOr I think we have to accept that Key loves grooming moe characters into sacrifical lambs. ^^; Looking at another point of view, that seems to be Key's finance generating tool since they have three titles that has that theory and all three sold well. I guess they will still be using it again and again, just like how Gundam never changes even after 30 years. ^^; Hmmm, I think I can understand why you said Nagisa had little development. Looking back at their relationship during season one, I have to say that Nagisa is spoilt by Tomoya. I mean, isnt Tomoya the guy who ran all around the school to get everything prepared and done just for her sake? That is sure one hell of a dedication. And even until the death of Nagisa, have we even see a scene where both of them quarrel? I dont think so. So maybe its Tomoya's fault that Nagisa did not get a huge character development. =P But ultimately Tomyoa is the main character so given the choice, Key chose to develop Tomoya's character at the cost of Nagisa. Which has what happen in Clannad so far. |
