That technique will not get you anything perfect, but some songs do quite well while others are killed. I say it works well about 40% of the time, 30% decent, 30% too bad to use. Why? When two exactly opposite sound waves hit each other, they basically cancel each other out, getting silence. If you were to take a mono track, copy it, and invert it, you would hear nothing. The whole idea is that the main singing is usually on both L and R channels, so by inverting one of them, you cancel out the main singing. Of course, if other things like instruments are on both channels, they get canceled or sewered as well. Another thing about this technique not always working is that (I think) there are echoes of one channel on the other one when it is recorded(what is picked up on the L is also on the right), so you always here the "shadow" of the original. Why did I explain this?! XD FYI: Those "Noise-canceling Headsets" you might have seen on TV or something run off this idea. They record the "outside" noise, invert it, and play it to you in time when the real noise reaches your ear through the headset, canceling it while playing what you really want to hear. :D

Yea, it works sorta at least =D though it does botch up some of my songs too a point where it sounds uberly funny ahhahaha thanks =D  |

Woah! TOD, that's a really thorough explanation! I have to agree with what you said. The method that Engel explained only works on a stereo track. Also sometimes, some instruments like the piano, for example, gets removed as well. Erm...now I have a question. Have you ever tried making a karaoke version of "Alumina"? (You know, Deathnote ending..) Although it says that it's a stereo track, inverting one of the channels always ends up with nothing. I finally gave up trying to make one, but I think it has something to do with "surround sound"... |

I can try to make another one for you though.. that looks better.. just have to edit the bg.. it's quite easy ^^ I'll send it to you when it's finished :] @Mr. TIE: yesH~ that's how to make your own karaoke.. but.. it's not always success.. depends on the song.. if you're lucky,, you can get a very nice karaoke version of the song.. :]

Yea... though I've tried using that technique on (i think) 3 of my songs... none of them worked! I still hear my vocalist loud and clear... Thats y I gave up trying to make my own karaoke... for the moment at least~ In other words... personally... mine is a 100% Failure rate... though I recall Rixena saying she tried it on a couple of songs and they all worked... Even audacity's link mentioned that is not a 100% thing... it depends on ur luck (other than ur song of course)... guess... Well said about the karaoke guys...it does suck when you make a karaoke version when some instruments are removed. [i.e. lead guitar, etc] It's a good thing that there are karaoke/instrumental versions already in the website. :) @DN:: Ganbatte on the 4th one! :)    |
