Multiple attacks make sense in a movie, especially if 13 attacks happen...having to do 13 individual large scale battles is too much, even for a trilogy. As for names, maybe they'll combine EVA groups. Imagine if the Japan NERV met the U.S. NERV to fight a powerful new angel (In the series, there are said to be other NERV groups around the world). That might be the reason for the new names and the westernized aspect. It seems a bit unecessary though, but it's still a possibility... |

I don't want them to make EVAs wireless. The umbilical cord also symbolises something. It shows that without NERV, the EVAs would eventually become weaker. ^ like a mom to a child.. neh? Besides, that would be changing the concept. Some of the conflicts in EVA include the safety of that umbilical cord. Also, the after effects of not having it. Like the time when Shinji completely merged in the LCL of EVA01. ü m y . L i F E . i . t r a d e . i n . f o r . y o u r . P A i N . |

Rin has a good point, the whole concept of the EVA unit is a beast caged. That's really all they are, angels that chose to evolve in a different way, but were imprisoned in armor. The umbilical cord is a further restraint, to ensure that even if the beast breaks it's bonds, it can't survive for long. NERV is man trying to play God with something they themselves don't have complete control over. |

Didn't EVA01 eventually become wireless? I mean didn't he eat the engine thingy of the angel and so, he can power himself.. ^^' m y . L i F E . i . t r a d e . i n . f o r . y o u r . P A i N . |

i'm not sure about that but i think when shinji piloted eva again,it's still needed power(maybe i'm wrong cause didn't pay much attention to the little details) but in the movie,i think it moved around wirelessly...but i can say that the eva series 5 to 13(i think) looked u.g.l.y... |

I talked to Matt Greenfield from ADV about the live action Eva project at a con about 2 months ago. These are some of the things I remember him saying. -Apparently the names on the site are just generic names for their concept sketches, not the final names. -They're hoping to make a trilogy (though they've only got part funding for one... apparently all the money's coming from Japan) and cover the entire series. -They're hoping to have Weta start work on it after Halo. Originally, they wanted it to be after LOTR, except King Kong happened, then they wanted it after Kong, then Narnia happened... -They've got a shortlist of about 3 directors and they're not going to start casting until they've confirmed the director. Apparently the director will be "very A list" (Matt's words, not mine). Unfortunately, Matt wouldn't tell us who the people on the shortlist were. -They will not be changing the ages of the characters and they want to cast actors who are close in age to the characters (e.g the idea of Emma Watson as Asuka has been rejected because she'll be too old by the time they get round to filming). -I repeat: NO ONE HAS BEEN CAST YET. Apparently the idea is to get a good director whose name will attract actors to the project. -The film will be westernised, because let's face it, it's hard enough to sell the concept to an American filmgoing audience even without the additional hurdle of being subtitled. And supposing they did keep the Japanese setting but filmed it in English, they'd probably end up casting Zhang Ziyi as Misato, Watanabe Ken as Gendo, Michelle Yeoh as Ritsuko... I'm joking, but you get the picture. -It's a joint Gainax/Weta/ADV project and thus has Anno's approval. Richard Taylor has been to Japan with John Ledford of ADV and met him personally. Apparently they got along very well. For that matter, when I'd met Matt, it was right after he'd visited Weta Workshop. That's all I remember off the top of my head. I can say that talking to Matt did put me a lot more at ease about the idea of a live action Eva, given how enthusiastic he seemed about it and how far along it seems. There is still the potential for it to go horribly wrong of course, but *shrugs* only time will tell I guess. So far everything seems to be going quite well. |

Wow, thank you very much, Zephonith for the info! I had a feeling it would be a trilogy...The lack of funds is similar to LOTR trilogy, which was propelled by the success of the first film. Whew, so glad those aren't the real names, although it seems more convinient to refer to a concept pic by the original name of the chracter, not the crappy made up name. I really hope it all works out, the director would have to be very renowned for the movie in total to work well. If Peter Jackson is not possible, may a true fan director like Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Spy Kids) or Guilermo Del Toro (Hellboy, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) might be good. The westernization aspect is an unfortunate necessity. The average American audience likes what's familiar to them, so narrow minded they are. For instance, once I went to go see Hero, starring Jet Li. Everybody in line for tickets was really excited. At the ticket booth, the cashier warned me that the movie was subtitled, I said I didn't really care. People behind me, however, let out a groan and went to see another movie. I was so disappointed in them... The cast better damn be good, that's all I'll say to that... Ok, ranting aside, no new pics at the moment, my phtobucket account's not working...I'll be back later though...so stay tuned... |

Sure is hard to make a Live Action out of something that's soooo fictional. This needs really long time to think about and plan things on hand. I could care less about subtitles. |

I really don't think the "western audience" would consider going to see a live action Eva movie. I think only the hardcore otakus and people who like giant "robots" beating eachother up will see it. Then again I could be wrong. I mean the summer blockbuster movie was a discovery channel-like movie about penguins. Maybe us uncultured Americans will finally get some culture? =D Marse Hughes |

Good point, but if it's violent enough, anybody will go see it. The trailer alone and big stars will draw the idiot masses, regardless of how deep the movie is...Everybody went to see Fantastic Four and Stealth...they both sucked...Troy was awesome too, even though it was deep and long...oh well, whatever happens happens... What if otakus don't go see it because they feel to disappointed in how it turned out? It's funny, isn't it? Consider the fact that all Americans are descendants of British revolutionaries. The British are a very cultured people, by association, we should be very cultured as well...what happened? Okay, concept pic of the day! Enjoy! This is another cityscape. |

LOL, I have actually seen people with hair so black that it refected blue. So, it's possible. (Pink natural would be a challenge.) I'm on the fence on this. I could see the making of this movie possible but I question it's value. I am more intailed to the story outside the suits, that's easy to do on screen. Graphics (such as used in the latest Harry Potter and Narnia) are getting very detailed. It's only a matter of time before we forget what's real. But I am a Hard-Core-Eva-Fan, I don't want it changed. Plus, how could you do a two hour segment and have it make sense to the rest of society who have never heard of Evangelion? Jeez, it took me the whole series to peice together all the godly references so they could make sense to the people I tried to explain this to. Hmm, also I doubt they would stay true to the story by using kids that actually look 14. But what really bugs me is the need for concept art. What's wrong with how it looked in the show? They have every concept they need in it. Oh, long, sum-up=50/50. .:|Hidders|:. Love shounen-ai? Yaoi? Boy's love? Come here to find great links to BL scanlators! |

Rin's right, since the character models in the series are in 2D, in order to bring them to the big screen, they have to be conceptualized for 3D animation. For instance, imagine if a camera zooms into anEVA unit and circles it, to give you a full 360 degree view. The designers would have to work from memory to figure out how that would look. That's why there's concept art. Also since the movie's being westernized, the design would have to be westernized as well. That's why the EVAs look more like monsters, since that kind of stuff appeals to Americans. The hair thing is an interesting idea...maybe they could always show Rei in a blue light, I mean her EVA is blue, and in most memorable scenes from the anime, she's standing in moonlight. Well, she is a genecticaly engineered human, in a sci-fi flick, people will beleive anything...They could just have the actress use a wig. It's gonna be a very tough role for young actors and actresses, that's for sure! Ok, concept pic of the day! NERV central |
