i just noticed that the japanese language is very "gender" orientated like the suffixes for names are different and some parts of speech are divided in to 2 sects (Girls/Boys) O_o wouldnt this thread be difficult to explain to people because of that? ![]() ![]() "To bring you back into this world I’d break every rule Machines try to take me to hell I don’t really care I do it for love" dolly - HYDE <--- [ Naruto: Shippuden | NecroCircus ] ---> |

Haha Cassie san, you don't have to call me that! :O We are all part of the club! And, yes please do give links, it is most helpful! Anyway, youkoso laiostoo, unfortunately a manual won't be posted as it would have to be 1000 or so pages long, but I am hoping that if we all contribute to this thread down the road we will all have a good proficiency in Japanese, but it won't happen over night. If we are going to learn Japanese this thread will be very long! So, let's do it minna!! Gunbare!! Also, let me know if you want me to do "lessons", and if you will read them, because I won't bother if you guys aren't interested. Tell me what you want to see here! If you like the "lessons", and will read them...that's great! Also, you don't have too, but please contribute whatever you'd like!! |

The -san is pretty right, but the next ones aren't really right... -kun: Usually used for boys. Can also be used to subordinate to replace -kohai (which could be considered rude), regardless of gender. -chan: Usually used for girl and little children. Use for a boy only if he's a close family member or a very close friend who lets you use it. ![]() ![]() |

@Asder owh..ok..nonetheless i left out the "i" in yoroshiku..^^ kamsa-hamnida\(^^)/ btw correct me if im wrong^^; -san => callin a person with respect either you know em or not. -kun => callin a person with friendly feeling. -chan =>callin a person which are close to you. is that right? |

Chuugaku san nen sei no toki kara desu. Ima wa, watashi wa benkyou o tsuzukiteru ga kangaeteru. (Not sure if I said that right, but what I mean is that I'm thinking about continuing to study it. Sometimes, I understand the words I'm gonna use, but don't know how to form the sentence correctly >_<) ![]() ![]() |

Bah, I even write some hiragana/katakana in a wrong way... and that carries on to writing kanji... Thank you for the link, Cassie! Very useful for preparing for Japanese Proficiency Test (although I'm not planning to take it in a close time...) Soshite, Katt-san, watashi mo onna no ko. (And, Katt, I'm also a girl) (You confused it in a reply in the WoT section... that's to be expected though) ![]() ![]() |

Thank you VERY much for that link Cassie, it's awesome! ^.- WOW it has the stoke direction as well for all the kanji...ack I've learned a few wrong!! (;_;)' |

Ah, sou ka? Gomen. I remember reading a Japanese dialog in a magazine's Japanese page that uses "nen" for age. Mistake or some sort of typo, perhaps? Oh, and to Nekomimi above, whose post I almost not notice, it's juu nana not juu shichi for 17. ![]() ![]() |

I have double checked and nen is for *school grade* year counting and sai is for years *of age*. Maybe, I'll do a post on counters sometime... @ Seiryuu: Ni shitsumon ga arimasu. (I have two questions.) Ichi, Seiryuu san no namae ga fushigi yuugi kara ka? (One, is your name from fushigi yuugi? :P) Ni, itsu ni Nihongo no benkyoo suru o hajimeru ka? (Two, when did you start your Japanese studies?) Gomen demo, Romaji mo Kanji/Kana mo ni kaite kudasai. (Sorry, but could you write in Kanji/Kana and Romaji.) Well, you have Kanji I haven't studied in your post, so you must have been studying longer than me! :P And please if you write in Kanji/Kana use Romaji too, as I think there are some people on this thread whose computers don't understand japanese characters. Ah, I probably made some mistakes but...:P |
