The residents there fought to keep it, not because they were anti-Japanese, but because it was part of their town culture. The Japanese family that once lived on that road didn't mind it either. In the end, they got to keep the name. A small case of political correctness actually not winning. In general, yes, it's an offensive term, but you can choose to be offended or not. As long as it's not meant to be derogatory, I don't really care. imo, people are way too sensitive to "words." Words themselves don't hurt, it's the intent behind them that does the damage. eta: btw, up here in the North East US. When people say jap, they usually mean Jewish-American Prince/Princess |

Definitely! Im kinda tired from readin the subs...i would rather see the raw if i knew japanese... Seriously, who in gendou wouldn't want to speak the language? -_- Im actually learning it in my school. jap 1 beginners hahaha  |

sheesh, you're lucky, I'm self taught in Japanese language...you know how HARD it is to just do it yourself without a teacher? OMG it was hell...Japanese is fun and all, but man can it be a PAIN!! |

I only speak japanese when i sleeping..^O^.. but without teacher is hard to learn... there have sell that some learnbook with CD..maybe that only a way without teacher but it also can be hard sometime..   |

im already japanese and also half-hawaiian and half-filipino! (that's my dad!) it's so easy to do it and a beautiful language to speak!

I love speaking Japanese (most of the time). It's strange but I think my voice gets a lot lower and more manly when I'm speaking Japanese. Also it's just a lot of fun to play around with how you speak and try to do different voices and such, but I generally do that in English too. Still it's a shame there are hardly any Japanese speakers at my school. I can't wait to get back to Japan. (/sigh)
Why does man create? Is it man's purpose on Earth to bring form to thought, to prove meaning in experience? Or is it just something to do when he is bored?

no japanese whatsoever taught in my school! bummer! only the classic French, Italian + german + Irish..and no japanese! well then...i try to pick up simple little words + phrases while enjoying anime^_^..i would rather understand japanese than always having 2 read subs luv the language! omoishiro-nee? mina-san?  |

I love to speak Japanese. However, I only speak it to my friends...mostly the ones who can talk back >_< I like it more than english because of how beautiful it sounds. Thats what attracted me. It sounded gorgeous. Although Spanish is nicer sounding, I love Japanese.

My Japanese language skills are only fair, but I love to speak it (if given the chance -___-; ) But if I speak japanese aloud everyone who knows me will think it's just weird. So the only way I can speak Japanese without getting strange looks would be if I stayed with my host family in Japan XD  |

Yes, I love speaking it! I have a lot of friends who can speak it too and Japanese exchange students to talk with so it's fun (I'm an officer in the Japanese Friendship Club in my university). And my BF's Japanese so we speak to each other in Japanese most of the time. (When my Japanese ability was still pretty low we spoke in English all the time but now it's different XD ) His parents only speak Japanese too so I don't have a choice ^^; Speaking of host families, the whole weekend I stayed with my Japanese host family was one of the most exhilarating experiences in my life! I was forced to speak Japanese ONLY for 48 hours! XD Something good came out of it though. After that, I was more comfortable speaking the language and spoke more Japanese! ;)  |
