As I see it, fear has both negative and positive effects. Fear motivated primitive man to flee from the growl of the saber-toothed tiger, or, if he was more resourceful, to tie a sharp rock to a branch and take that tiger's coat for warmth. This extends to our modern society: fear can motivate a person to work harder in order to pay for that house he just bought, knowing the consequences of him lazing around are much worse. However, fear is also manifest in the random anxiety- and I'd say that's what many modern people are actually feeling when they say "fear"- that a person feels. Sure, a person may be safe, have plenty to eat, and possess enough for tomorrow, but they're still afraid... er, I mean "anxious". This fear has negative repercussions when it prevents a person from doing anything, or when it makes a person sick. The only way a person can get rid of this anxiety is by going to the root cause of such anxiety and removing it. Not by drugs, alcohol or any of that stuff, but by confronting it head-on. But who am I to talk? I've had my share of neuroses and beating-round-the-bush incidents, so who made me an authority on fear? |

^ true about the Effects of Fear and it's also like having something that your so attached (if i misspelled that or used the wrong meaning) to something you like such as a cap from a person whom you like a lot and then losing it cus it reminded you of that person who you used to hang out or not want to forget. same goes for someone you love or admire so much that you fear you may never see them ever again which causes you to change in life as well. ...i guess...

| Fear is a form of human weakness which results in insecurity, anxiety and fretfulness. However, there are many types of fear. And the only way to counter it effectively is to comprehend that thing you fear. It is one of human's natural tendency to fear the unknown, as much as the matter is thrilling and interesting, the novelty of the matter would also induce to unease and concern. One would always be comfortable at a place he knew well, where he knew every nook and slope in that place and fancied control over it. By understanding the subject of our fear, for example in making a new friend, we can comprehend the way by putting ourselves at the one we want to befriend, and try to imagine the we would like to be approached with if we are in that person's shoes. As long as we remain open-minded and sincere, we could and would counter that feeling of fear. |

We're all born with a fear of the unknown, whether we like it or not. Humans are afraid of the unknown, it's a simple as that. If the unknown were to happen, we wouldn't know how to react and would be plummeted into chaos. I read a sci-fi novel by Issac Asimov where a major theme of the novel was a fear of the unknown and how it affects society (I forget what the title of the novel was, but I know that it was by Issac Asimov). Humans try to deny the unknown, which is where science and reasoning comes in. Science and reasoning is used to turn the unknown into things that have logical reasoning behind it, thus making it known. Making it a 'known' facts calms our fears of it since it is not 'unknown' anymore. Fear has eventually evolved as well. We as humans have bent simple things into things that he majority of our society now considers 'creepy' or 'scary.' A perfect example of this is Halloween, making the majority of the population now think of bats as 'creepy' and ghosts as 'scary,' or something along those lines. Bats are just normal animals, and some of the population doesn't even believe in ghosts, but society has evolved them into things now perceived as creepy. That's just one example of how fear has evolved. It's a lighter example, but there are many more that take a more serious note that can range from terrorism to school shootings when you think about it. Many fears that we know now, in my opinion, have been created by the media. In scary movies, something bad happens once the music stops; a fear of silence. In most scary movies, this bad and 'scary' incident seems to happen in bad weather most of the time; a fear of thunder and lightning. And don't even get me started on the news. That's the worst when it comes to creating and evolving fears. Yet, like what some other posters said before me, fear is also something that forces us to do things. Scientists proved that the Earth was round so that they would conquer their fear of falling off the face of the Earth. Even simple and daily things can be counted as a result of fears as well. For example, a fear of failure causes someone to do better in work or at school. Simply put, fear is something that we live with, but it is something that we have to learn to deal with. ![]() |

| Winston Churchill said it best,"Fear is a reaction. Courage is a choice." So fear keeps you aware but courage keeps you moving. Use them both properly and there is nothing you can't handle. |

"fear is primal and illogical emotion that every living has preinstalled within themselves" as the aboves says, we all have it within ourselves wither we like it or not. it is and will continue to exist ever after we are 6ft under. the only thing we can do is try not to let it control us. altho thats easier said then done. to me it is also proof that we are alive. fear is what keeps us safe and gives us our reasoning. the greatest fear personified is the grim reaper. in a sense its the ultimate. sure you can be scared of bugs, heights, and other things. but at the end of life's journay it is there. it can also be a great motivator, that is if its used correctly. |

The series "Dragon Head" pretty much sums up fear. without fear we are not afraid of anything. but we may lose our sense of self in the process. when we are overwhelmed by fear we are driven to madness and irrationality. But under normal circumstances, fear helps us to survive. .... although, in the modern world, fear of non-life-threatening concepts such failing a midterm or getting rejected by a girl/guy only stresses us out and gives us ulcers ^^

How do you view Fear? Fear is a distressing emotion that humans feel and the thing that is building up in people's mind. Fear is a thing that people cannot avoid or erase from the mind. If you fear one insect or any, you'll be afraid of it forever in your life. Well, there are some cases that it is erased and is removed from the mind. That's because of maturity. Fear is something that is holding us from doing something we must do. And sometimes, fear stops us from living, and want to rest in peace. |
