"about capitalization, i really don't capitalize in this forum. this ain't any formal letter."-gij @gij Remember this when your ranting on grammer, gij "ain't ain't a word and I ain't gonna say it." I'm from the southren U.S. We use ain't as isn't,but try not to rag on people's GRAMMAR when you use made up southern words. Especially when this is about spelling, not the english grammical thread. |

gij, if you're from a country where English is not your main language, I don't blame you if you can't type that well. What I don't like is people that that are 17 and typn lyke tis cuz tey r 2 lzy 2 typ te hol wrd. And capitalization, that's not that important. I don't mind people typing without any capital letters, I really don't see a need to. But if you type correctly, then people can see what you mean better ^_^ |

Re: Can People Spell?

when people post things "lyke" instead of "like" or other variation of the word it is normally just for chat speak purposes and not lack of ability to actually spell the word. Some people just type too fast and don't care. Some people can't spell. There is a world just around the corner of your mind, Where reality is an intruder and Dreams come true... |

what is considered "proper grammar" changes over time. this is the evolution of language. i do not have a problem with this, but i do have a problem with people who are so lazy they can't type 3 extra letters to allow me to more easily read their typing. this is rude. there are no two ways about it.

erm,i agree with 嬰 å…’ æ«» 桃 女 å© too. it'll be a little dull if everyone in this world use proper grammar.

i am a filipino and english is our second major language. but i'm not really into it. i don't have english subject back in college but our reading materials are in english (we've been studying socio-political and socio-economic theories that's why). i had my background only from elementary and high school and then self-study. and, i still prefer our very own language, i knew everyone does to. patriotism, you know. thus, i do have problems sometimes with my grammar (or most of the times); i don't know, i'm not sure, no one is to check. i didn't came from a wealthy filipino family that uses english as their major language at home or anywhere. nonetheless, i am always conscious with my english grammar. but when i learned about this forum where i see a lot of people who really don't mind about it, i thought i saw a place where i could be free of those grammar-worries. not knowing there are members like you guys. why should you be bothered when you can ignore? i've had a hard time understanding their shortcuts and the wrong grammars too, but it's not a big deal. it feels good that at least some people wanted to be understood with their attempts to use your language. about capitalization, i really don't capitalize in this forum. this ain't any formal letter. ryoko, you have wrong spellings in your post. dirtyninja, it should be an english teacher not a english teacher. should be i am not i pretty good. i'm sure you don't want your threads to have these kind of posts. furthermore, you can't tell whether someone is really bad in spelling and grammar with the posts in every thread here as your sole basis. as for the raised question, of course people can spell. some are just incorrect. problem with the context, should be 'can people spell correctly?' ![]() |

I blame poor spelling and grammar on spending too much time on instant messaging programs. :) I have to admit, I take shortcuts when using them too. |

Despite the fact that there is usually a spelling error or grammar error in every one of my posts, I at least try to do stuff correctly. Damn commas and semicolons, I keep learning and then forgeting when to use them. I have a good feeling about this post though. |

Re: Can People Spell?

i think that the shortening of words shows character... it gives an Idea of the persons personality through their writing I fail to see how shortening of words show character. Your style of writing is defined by the words you choose and use, varying sentence lengths, etc, NOT by the length of word. Shortening words that are like five letters long does not show character, but instead shows ignorance and illiteracy. Typing two less letters save you what, 0.1 seconds? Dictionary was invented for a reason. Please use it. And I am well aware that many users here do not speak English as their first language. My rant is directed mainly towards those that know English as their first language, yet for some reason, choose to type like the monkeys they are. |

| Yes, I think people can spell! If they are from a different country and came to the USA, it would be very hard for them to learn English! >_< But even people from differene countries can at least pronouce some works and spell some words, too! Nobody is dumb anough to know nothing!! That's my opinion about this subject/thread! ^_^ |

I do check the spelling on my longer posts, and since my dad is a English teacher I pretty good at writing mechanics. I also was brought up by a English major, so I have a good background. 嬰 å…’ æ«» 桃 女 å©, He was actually annoying, his posts were to the point of idecyperability, when your post reads like this- {y does mah lvl keep goin down???i dun fink i did anifin wrong did i??? T-T sachiel...wanna gimme some merit pointz??? ^^ } This gives me a headache trying to pick words out of that mess. |

Some people are just to lazy to actually write a whole word. They think that by leaving some letters out of a word theire going to type faster. Poor ignorants.

If what Gendou says is true, than I must punch stoned_asian five or six times, and anyone else that dares to type it! *notices gendou's last post says it* *and Jad [Alt] Kaizer's* *gives both a whack, though Gendou's whack is weaker ^_^* Seriously, how hard is it to spell stuff correctly? It only takes a second or two to check, and if you're not sure on how to spell it then let someone know and they can spell it right for you ^_^ *checks post for typos* |

No-no Gendou, everytime someone types "azn", a small chunk of my soul dies and fades away into the wind like ashes. I was embarassed to soul-death.
