@ DA- I know what the quality is of being one, the thing is that I like to dress up and whatnot, but I don't really have a ton of things to wear to get dressed up like that. But I guess I am one for just liking to dress up. XD And I know what you mean, about having the eye for typography and having to learn backwards. I had to learn a few things backwards, I know that it can be annoying having to revamp the way you make a sig once you learn something new backwards and then trying to relearn it the correct way. You're right about typography, it is that you have to have an eye for. It's taken me awhile to just become decent at it, I know I'm nowhere near being good at it yet. >.> @ Shuy- Nope, I'm still just a sophomore. A sophomore in quite a few Junior classes due to being in honors, but still technically a sophomore. XD @ Zaku- Well, don't be bummed, being single is a good thing. You get to play and flirt around with guys (Or girls, in your case) without a care in the world, then just when you seriously start getting into them, they can just shoot you down and make sure you know they're not interested in you. Which is exactly what happened to me just a few weeks ago. Yeah, maybe that's not the best of things about being single. >.> @ Komaro- That is pretty funny about your mom selling your TV. I want to know if it was a good one too. XD Not much is going on with me, I just have finals coming up in June and they're kind of a pain in the butt. But other than that, I guess things are alright. ![]() |

Yeah that's true. However I think learning on your own first gives you your own style. Like I learned in highschool everything about photoshop and whatnot simply because I already knew more than the teachers. The teachers did their part by teaching the fundamentals and making students learn more on their own. That's why we won like every website, graphic design, and video contest we entered in. But yeah the only thing I could possibly teach is what NOT to do. What you think looks good and what I think looks good are on totally different levels.

Not sure if my advice will help, but like the others, i learned about everything in photoshop by myself. I usually find something i like in a piece of art and try to replicate it myself, or teach myself the technique. I also find myself looking for guides or tutorials on deviantart. Also a lot of my experience came from avi making here on gendou. Most of it just takes time, a lot of time. I've also learned from college that no one will hold your hand in teaching you; you'll be forced to find what you need on your own most of the time, and you'll be better for it.

@DA: Haha, it's possible. If you can make something that looks scarily real, I wouldn't be surprised if you helped to work on the real thing in the future. xD @DA & Toyumi: Lol. It's not really at all a good TV. It's pretty old. You know, the kind that are >5 inches thick. xD But the thing is without a TV in my room I'd have to travel away from my warm warm blanket and out into the cold cold other areas of the house just to watch the Food Network. LOL. Speaking of my TV, I was promised that it'd be replaced by a newer one years ago... I wonder when that'll happen. xD Btw, turns out it's still there. FOOD NETWORK FTW!! @Toyumi: Haha, I didn't enjoy finals back in high school either. Where I went, they always really pushed you. I like university finals a lot more. They come earlier, and all of them were basically created by the professor, so it was easier to figure out what you should know and what to expect judging by that alone, rather than taking a generic test given to all students taking the same course. Both are still a pain, but one is just less painful. xD Lol. Anything I learned about photoshop was from Google and my own random screwing around with settings to see how it looked. I can't really make anything nearly as eye-catching/eye-pleasing as some people, but that's not the point. It cures my boredom. xD ![]() |

Good, a lot of posts since I last checked. :D I'mma post before I sleep. Kiba: Welcome dude! Haven't seen you around lately. Well of course, I haven't also been around much. XD How are you man? DA: lol, I didn't notice your link... It's a good shade of yellow, but I bet you want to throw in some gray hue on that, no? XD Was your project was made from scratch(stock photos), I'm not really a big fan of SNSD to know most of their stuffs. If those are made from scratch and not from a certain photo shoot album or something, dude... I respect your sense of style even more. I mean, yeah, you went to an art school but at least you have the talent unlike other people (I'm not dissing them) who wants to go to specialized schools so they could "magically" do stuffs. End of rant. Now I'm kinda wondering where you would end up: Design or Music. They're both forms of art... so yeah. XD Komaro: I'm really bad at business, so games like those are my weakness. XD I can do strategies... but I have to learn how things work the hard way before anything else. XD The Food Network owns if there's nothing else to watch on TV. I always get hungry when I'm watching though (Dessert First and Unwrapped). Most of my recipes are from the random shows I catch every now and then. XD ---- Anyways, update from me: I think I'mma fail a few classes of mine this semester. I'm in no mood to go to my classes. If I fail though, I'll get held back 3 months from graduating... I'll miss the job offer... I won't be able to go fly somewhere... I'll get bored. My parents got wind of what's going on and so they set me up with shrink appointments. It's a waste of money for me, I'm just going cause I want my results to be normal for my parents to stop worrying. But yeah, after 2 sessions, I think the guy hate my guts now for being a challenge (in his terms, I was a "manipulative-contradictory-*insert more difficult words here*). So yeah, that's my life this past few days. :D Any questions? XD

[@Komaro] Food Network is indeed awesome, but the channel kind of sucks now, all these newbie shows lol. I saw the original Iron Chef the other day on the food channel and it was amazing to see the red chef again, he was my favorite. XD Hmm, do you have any money? TVs these days are really pretty inexpensive. You can get a nice 30" for maybe 400$ or so? My personal TV I use mostly for my PS3 (no cable in my room) was like 215$ for 22-24". [@Keiri] Yeah I want to dye it soon, but I want to grow my hair out a bit more, cause if I cut it and I dye it before that, then when it grows out shades of Black will appear immediately right? Randomly the other night I found like a red hair, probably when I had the orange hair years ago!?!!!? WEIRD! And yes, I mostly made it all from scratch. These files are massive in file size cause it's in 300 DPI. It has to be professional looking, so no need to add random grunges or brushes everywhere and ruin it. If I had to do something for myself, since I do plan on making an EP next year, I'll tackle this project again, but in regular size. I'll definitely make a cover and probably a back, after I record and decide the titles and whatnot, but yeah I can make an entire CD project from scratch 100%, I've been doing that stuff since like 10th grade years ago anyways. And yeah, I'll still have design with me, but I'm ending up in music/acting (both arts) for sure, no doubt. I'm going for it, but I have a huge design background on me that not a lot of other idols will have around me. Mostly people in asia (celebs) know photoshop to photoshop their images but I'll have a notch over them. XD

Oho, activity! @DA — Go for it! It'd be interesting to check out at least. I tend to do things similar when I've made some thing that would have japanese characters, but instead of sitting down and going through to get legit Japanese I've used brushes of kanji or copy and pasted a wall of text and cleaned it up. I do sit down and get the actual characters I want when doing specific things, though, like logos or something that I put some kanji on that perhaps translate as the title or mean something related. You should certainly do a tutorial. I have no idea where I would start when asking for your teaching, though. Basics, simple techniques, tricks and whatnot; such a wide range of possibilities it'd be hard to get specific. Maybe I'll try and think of a few things I'd like to try and pick up specifically.. @Kiba — I agree. Everything I've learned and done in Photoshop I learned to myself by messing around, experimenting, and a lot of trial and error. However, it's never a bad thing to learn a few things from someone that is more experience than yourself in something. It can help you refine your technique, or improve on something you may be able to do in a more effective way. I remember way back when I first started I made borders for pictures and fonts by just using a color or gradient as was. However I had a friend of mine show me ways to experiment with how he made borders appear, using shape burst, and experimenting with some other elements that help enhance the overall look. Never bad to pick up something to help you grow. ~ |

[@Shuy] It's so hard to find better asian fonts, I still don't know where to find them. Not the ones where you type and it's a character, it has to match your actual keyboard, those are hard to find. The fonts that are used in albums and TV shows and whatnot, I want my hands on those fonts, maybe it's a setting or something I'unno. Hmm, more like a tutorial it seems I'd do well having some sort of opinion thread instead of a tutorial thread, although that might backfire cause I give maybe harsh criticism people might think I'm a dick. People in the chatroom think I'm a dick anyways, lol... so whatever... But yeah, I can easily make a CD album jacket. I won't need official photos, I doubt I can find someone to take pictures of me anyways.

@DA — I wouldn't pay much mind to people who think that about you. They either don't know you very well form your posting, or are just too sensitive to someone expressing their opinion. Me and you have had a few debates over our opinions, but that's the great thing about opinions. You get to have them and express your own in various ways. I enjoy a good debate or conversation like that, long as no one gets upset over just sharing an opinion. For fonts, I just find translations and copy&paste into photoshop and move them around and change their look as I need to. I like experimenting with the various fonts that PS puts foreign lettering into and seeing how it looks in different strokes. I wouldn't have use for a Japanese lettering keyboard I couldn't understand, though. You'd prolly need something like that for specific fonts you see in shows or albums, if they're japanese/korean/chinese lettering, or have to just copy and paste. |

[@Shuy] Yeah I never cared anyways, but I did hear of things that were said though. So, I know at least... And yeah I give debates and post long posts sometimes over topics is cause I want to talk about them. But nobody here can post long discussions like that, which also leads to why the forums are dull and empty all the time. I have the Japanese/Korean/Chinese keyboard enabled. Copying/pasting isn't the same as typing into the actual font though, cause the default fonts will pick it up and read them since it's on the other keyboard or that's what you copied. The Japanese fonts are just characters you have to manually find, so when you type say "kioku" with the Japanese font and the default asian font, it'll appear differently. And those Japanese fonts are inaccurate and limited because they only show one character per key (plus CAPS). I've looked all around and it's almost impossible to find those asian fonts that are used in asia. And if anything you have to buy them which I'm not doing. Fonts are to be free. >:D

Haha, yeah, fonts should be. I can understand maybe donating to someone who makes a custom font or something that you use and enjoy, depending on if you use it to make some money, but otherwise I would think most fonts should be out there to use. and oh, well I would never be able to use a keyboard like that. Not unless I end up learning Japanese in the future like Im planning on/trying to do. Though, FOR LONG POSTS AND DISCUSSIONS, when I'm around I do think I can rant on mindlessly rather well. It's a talent of mine that I tend to exploit rather frequently. >>; |

@Keiri - Sorry to hear that. I hate the idea of psychiatrists as well, because parents and relatives usually believe it is the answer to any sort of problem that comes up. I don't blame you for making life difficult for them. I would probably do the same thing, since I dislike having people force their way into private matters. I hope you can pull through this and I wish you the best of luck. I've decided to try for a goatee style thing now. I felt that the moustache looked pretty stupid on me by itself, so I should give this a shot. I need to do something with myself, something to change the way I look, because I'm kind of a boring looking person. Hopefully I'll get a chance to catch up with all the stuff going on here tomorrow. It's really late right now. =_= |

[@Shuy] Yeah I'm someone who tries to get stuff for free if I can (music, videos, etc.). I mean paying for fonts, yeah it's understandable, but not when friggin' basic fonts cost 20$+ f#cking dollars!! Like, wtf!?! But for DA.com and DAfonts (yes, I own both of them), you can get higher quality fonts and all for FREE. [@Jon] What hairstyle are you rocking? I say go for the irish beard (like Conan). I still can't decide when to dye my hair blond or if I'm really going to, but I'm still waiting for it to get longer first. It's almost there though so maybe by next month or so. We'll see. School situation is lagging on, I'm getting worried now and if I do get into school finding a place to live is not gonna be easy and almost last minute.

You can not fool me! I shall not fall for this trick of you owning them! O_O; Silly Rabbit, tricks are for kids. :| but yeah, I use Dafont for all my font needs. I typically browse their recent ones searching and picking up quite a few new ones to try out. It bugs me though when I end up getting a new font that is pretty much the -exact same- as another font on the site and one I already have, though. Bugs me people make fonts [or maybe even steal them?] when they look the exact same as someone elses. But I guess it's not uncalled for that they get the same ideas, unless they actually are taking someone elses as their own. by the way, hope you get the school stuff straight. Are you going dorm or apartment? If it's the latter and you know you're getting in, you could go ahead and try getting a place or setting that up. Not sure what all your factors may be, though. |

@ DA- Still, even a tutorial on what not to do is helpful. Sometimes, I find those types of tutorials more helpful than actual tutorials, they force the reader of the tutorial to be more creative rather than following specific steps. A critiquing thread is also a good idea. Maybe instead of it being just you, there could be other people to critique as well, to give more of a variety with the critiques. And personally, I prefer harsh critiques on my works, they force me to become better and they point out my weak spots without beating around the bush about them. @ Komaro- Yeah, they are a pain. Worse yet is that once my finals are over, I'll have more school stuff to do over the summer as well. I just got my summer assignments for AP English (Which I'm taking next year), I have to read The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, The Crucible, and then two books from a list of 16 books, one fiction and one non-fiction. For the non-fiction, I've narrowed it down to two choices, Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer or Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser. With Fiction, I'm still deciding between The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, Forever by Pete Hamill, and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon. Then I have to do an essay on the Frederick Douglass one that has to be emailed to the teacher by August 1st, and I have to do another essay for The Crucible that's due on the first day back to school after summer break. I have to do a smaller assignment for the other two books as well. All this for AP English. I haven't even gotten my AP US History assignment for the summer yet. Basically, once next school year starts, I'm not going to have a life. >.> ![]() |

[@Shuy] Fonts can look the same plainly, but when people change their character it's different. To the naked eye yeah it's the same and most of the time, it is (trust me, I've used a lot of similar looking fonts), but sometimes when you're hard editing with font and texts it makes a bit of a difference. Well I'm trying to get into PSU. The people keep telling me you don't "apply", you "enroll". I'm trying to just "enroll" now but they're not just giving me a damn link or directions to enroll. I just want to do that, and then start looking for an apartment. The school has a population of like 40+K, and about a quarter of those can onyl fit into their dorms! Plus it's one of the top 5 party schools in the country, and although I'm not afraid of that (I've been through 6 roomates in a year), I just don't want to deal with a roomate like that cause I want to live by myself anyways. I want a place to record privately, I don't care if it's like a one-room everything place, I just need a bathroom, shower, sink, and a desk or two so I can record. But I've never rented an apartment before so payments and whatnot are going to be a question early on. I asked them when do the Fall classes start and no reply yet, so I gotta find a place soon cause I cannot skip another year of nothing like this previous year, I'll kill myself. Although if somehow that happens, I'll have to move out and just start supporting myself and start recording music as much as I can, but yeah I want to learn Korean this year, start recording (in korean), and then somehow go to Korea in the summer to audition or just send out demo-tapes. I feel like everything is last minute, but when I went to college two years ago it was also last minute (as in done in the Summer). Then past Fall I also left suddenly as if it was last minute, so yeah, the past two years since graduating highschool, obviously I've been going in different directions. I just wish I could've started my path to stardom overseas right after graduating HS, cause I've wasted two years of nothing and of course college loans to a school I dreadfully hate. [@Toyumi] Yeah I agree with everything you said. I give good criticism of everything, in my opinion, cause although I give it in a nice way as I can, I'm also very honest. I was honest during Gendou idol judging, and especially with GFX design I give good criticism especially since I studied professionally under it. I've also worked with people and clients so I know the field a bit as well, no joke. I think people here don't take it well and they stick to their own thing. And since people bite off each other, that's why there's so many people trying to use more and more brushes without actually learning anything for themselves. And as a note, if you want to study GFX professionally, sometimes people do not like you using brushes to the extent you use for forum signatures. I mean in HS I was definitely a brush whore and now I do the most fundamental things (although I hide a lot of what I still know >:D). But yeah if anyone wants my opinion on something just ask me. Whether or not I open up a "Ask DA" thread or something, is up to what people think. Not a fan of making threads anymore since people never reply to them or visit the forum in general to hold a real discussion.

@DA — Yeah, that's true, but I've run into certain fonts that are literally the same from every way I've used them. From resizing to editing with effects or whatnot, they look the same. For starting last minute, I wouldn't get too bent outta shape over it. If you can just get everything squared away before the deadline, it'll be fine no matter when you get it done. I remember a somewhat similar situation happened to me last year, when I got registered and enrolled for my first semester like right at the deadline. I thought I was kinda screwed with classes and everything else, but I ended up doing well and giving myself a 4.0 start when it was all said and done. But, I didn't have to worry about living arrangements, so I know that's a whole other issue that I don't know much about. and haha, we have ourselves a big-time party school as well [College of Charleston] that's about an hour and a half from where I'm at. When I transfer out of my college right now, I'm most likely heading to the University of South Carolina, but they're are other schools to consider that are at the coast; College of Charleston, and Coastal Carolina. I'll be heading to USC most likely though. They have one of the top journalism schools in the country, and since I'm going to be a Sports Journalist/Writer, that's the best fit for me. I also get that with having such a long lay off. Similar thing happened to me, but now I'm slowly getting things back on track with classes and going to school. I Just have to keep it up. I'm sure if you keep pressing on, no matter the way the situation is looking, you'll make progress, which I'm sure you know already. |

@ DA- I agree with you about that, how some people here kind of ignore a critique on their work and just do their own thing instead. It's only meant to help them improve, it may sound harsh but it's just being honest. And I'm not planning on going into GFX professionally. That is all just a hobby for me. I'm planning on going into History, more specifically, Archaeology, since it's a combination of my love for History with my fondness for Earth Science. Of course, my plans could always change in the future, but that's what I'm planning on right now. ![]() |
