Johnny Young? you mean Johnny Yong Bosch, as in the guy who does Ichigo from Bleach and Koizumi from Haruhi? ugh, rather not him as Soul. he did good as Koizumi, but i don't like him as Ichigo. i'm thinking something deeper, smoother, more sarcastic...but i can't seem to think of the voice actor i'm thinking of >.< that's the problem when you've seen so many anime; you start forgetting which one's you've seen dubbed and subbed and voices start mixing together...arg, i can't think of any for anyone! i'm bashing my head against the desk for this. for Soul, i'm getting a mix of Chris Patton, Quinton Flynn and Crispin Freeman, and none of them sound right! i feel kinda sad for Stein. he's an interesting character, and it kind of hurts that he's so infected by insanity. but that's what happens, and i think he's bound for a comeback eventually.  |

I was also thinking of Crispin Freeman as Soul, but his voice is too...mature...for Soul. But I think he would be awesome as Kid's voice, since he kinda has the same intonation. I'd also like to see Laura Bailey as Maka. I mean, we mostly hear her cute voice, but she does have alot of range, from Kodocha to Lust. I have a feeling that the same voice they used for Naruto here, they will use for Black☆Star. [shudders]. I never really noticed the absence of mothers throughout the series. Kinda curious, isn't it? But there are a lot of Big-sis types like with Kid and Black☆Star. Also, Marie seems sort of like a real mother figure to Chrona. Sadly, the one character who actually has a mother show up in the series, turns out to be someone like Medusa. And yeah, thanks for explaining about Shinigami and his soul. I vaguely remember that in the series. I hope he doesn't turn out like Shinigami, I like Kid-kun just the way he is. I really hope that Stein isn't overcome by the insanity, too Holkers. sorry to hear about your not being able to see it. But, where theres a will, theres a way. new manga chapter is out! *dances* yes, tachikerorogunsou, Ichigo from Bleach is the Power Ranger guy XD i agree Stel, Crispin Freeman (as much as i love his voice) sounds too mature, while Chris Patton doesn't have much range in tone of voice, and Quinton Flynn sounds to playful and cunning. Crispin would be good for Kid's normal voice, but i don't think he'd be able to do the "freakouts" properly. it wouldn't sound as good. now that i think of it, Laura Bailey would be good for Maka! she also does Tohru from Fruits Basket right? i remember her as Lust too...that is a lot of voice range! ugh, let's hope they don't get Naruto's voice actress to do Black*Star. i like Kid the way he is too, but you never know >.< that's part of the fun thing about manga; you never really know what's going through the manga authour's head. |

Yep, she does Tohru. Just finished watching ep 39. Since maybe not everyone here has seen it yet, I won't go in-depth. But, Maka actually talks about her mother in this one! The way she describes her is...I don't know what to make of it xD. Kind of different from what I imagined. It did answer alot of my questions. But now I want to see her more than ever. Judging from the comments, it is obviously a big divergence from the manga. I stil got a little misty watching this one though ;3; Now I must impatiently wait for the next episode +_+ |

Well I just finished reading the new chapter and I learned a little about black stars mom and family now i just gotta wait awhile long to see the end of this fight ><(the manga readers would know what I'm talking about)

@Mokona: yeah, we're talking about english voice-overs, or "dubs". a common discussion for anime, and since there's always a need for a topic here, why not discuss possible voice actors? do you have any ideas, if you know any voice actors or certain voices? @Death: mom? did they mention her? i thought they only mentioned his dad, White*Star. but we actually see Sid when he was alive! w00t! i can't wait for the conclusion of this arc, as epic as it is. it just keeps getting better and better. reading the latest chapter has helped me to realize not only how much the characters have improved and grown, but also Okubo-sensei. compared to the pilot chapters where the characters were introduced, his art has gotten a LOT better. heck, even from the first chapter compared to the pilots, the artstyle was different. compare this (http://www.onemanga.com/Soul_Eater/0/a-09/) to this(http://www.onemanga.com/Soul_Eater/2/11/) [which is actually the second chapter, but whatever]. certainly reinvented himself between there. and then you look at the latest stuff and he's improved even more! ...i'll quit with my art raving now. |

: P sorry no dubs for me- same case as for the manga .. heh. oh yh, there's another discussion i would like to bring up though- well, it's about the romance in the show- ok, in the anime i'm not as far as you guys, but i mean do you think there will be any sparks of realationships ? there's been mixed signs for me... won't say them here- but if this discussion prgresses i'll share my views XD i find it weird that Tsubaki and Liz and Patty all seem older than Black Star, Maka, Soul and Kid..... well, i'm not sure they ARE older, but that's what it seem like to me ? any views ? |

@Insanity ya you see something about black star calling sid a murder for killing his mom @Mokona I see the age difference in black star and tsubaki and death and liz but i think patty is kid's age just not as mature. With soul and maka they're age seems the same its just their attitude makes they're age seem different

@Death: i re-read it, and it's actually someone else yelling at Black*Star to give back his mother since the Hoshizoku apparently killed her. @Mokona: i've actually been wondering the ages of all the characters for a while now. i think the only one we have a vague idea of is Spirit, since it mentions that he had Maka when he was around 18, making him likely in his early 30's at his point in the series. oh wait! i think they said Justin's 18. could be wrong about that though...but it is odd that Tsubaki and the sisters seem to be older than the rest of the main cast. it's not really unheard of for weapon and meister to be different ages (Spirit was older than Stein, Fire and Thunder seem much younger than anyone else and no one seems to care), so we probably shouldn't think much of it. but still, i kind of wish they had a character book or something to tell us these kinds of things... |

I think Kidd could be way way older than the rest of them, since technically he is a Shinigami. Do they really age? And one other thing, I was rewatching one of the older episodes when Justin just appeared, and Shinigami-sama was basically saying that 'Justin can't read my lips because i'm wearing this mask, huh'. Or at least that's how it was translated. So, does that mean Shinigami-sama looks human too under his mask?

@uwai: Yes, under that outfit, Shinigami-sama has a human looks. To be more exact he is black haired with three white stripes that goes all around his head. I don't quite remember which time was, but at one of Kidd's travels to the desert, he wears the Shinigami outfit too.

uwai: i think Shinigami-sama does look human underneath his cloak and mask, as that would make Kid's appearance make sense. and the whole "Kid being older" also makes sense, but from subtle hints i think he's more or less the same age as Soul and Black*Star. but you never know, Shinigami may age at a slower rate than humans do, so for all we know, Kid could still look like he does now when the rest of the cast are in their 30s. Soujirou: i'm assuming that statement isn't supposed to be taken as fact, as NO ONE has seen Shinigami-sama without his cloak on except in fanart. and fanart obviously isn't canon, so we can't take it as proof. it's safe to assume he simply looks like an older Kid, possibly with three connected stripes instead of unconnected ones. Mokona: i think there is some sort of character book in existance, but i'm not sure on it. there's a book out called "How to Make Deathscythe", but i'm not sure if it's a character book, an art book, or something else. i can't seem to find any solid information on it. |

Mokona: i don't mind fanart revealing certain theories, but only the ones where it's easy to guess or whatever. trying to guess what Kakashi looks like will vary from person to person. however, pictures like this (http://dragonnova.deviantart.com/art/Chichiue-102975371) are okay with me because it would make sense if Shinigami-sama looked like Kid (by the way, avoid reading the artist's comments if you don't want manga spoilers). and plus that particular one is positively adorable. hm, another site i checked called it a "super guide", but since someone else told me it was (possibly) literally how to make your own Deathscythe. which is silly, because it's easy to understand the process of how to make a Deathscythe, so i think it's just a title like Bleach's artbook "All Color But the Black". |

lol thnx for the tip ( not to read artists comments ) i think it's good sometimes that they make books, not exactly directly linked to an anime, but it's either background info, or art, but you've got the official ones and maybe sometimes just randomly published ones- ok, maybe you're not getting excatly what i'm saying, but yh, in bookshops when they have shelves of books of art on Naruto and Bleach and it's nice to look at, but not exactly useful and there was this Naruto Cover Album thingy and basically talks you through each manga cover and how the author came about making them.... but yh, about what you said about death scythes, wouldn't it be easier for ppl to publish those kind of books after the completion of the anime ?? T_T i talk too much but again, any ideas on sparking romances ? sorry for bringing this up again, but for some reason i'm particularaly interested in this one. going sleepy nowz- 11.30..... ttytomorrow ! |

yeah, i like it when they publish books that talk about the series, even if it's stuff you already know. you might get some new insight on something based on those. you're talking about artbooks right? i personally like artbooks, but that's because i'm an art geek. i don't care if they're not particularly useful. i like to look at the pictures and read the artist's comments. Hiromu Arakawa's (of FMA fame) are always entertaining in particular. most character and artbooks based on the manga are usually actually written by the authour of the series. even if they aren't, the authour gives a lot of insight and detail to the publishers so information isn't incorrect. anime ones, however, don't have as much input from the original authour as the manga counterparts, and information is likely to be different. i suggest that if you ever want information like that, stick to the manga ones. that's the problem, i don't know what the content of the book is. and it's based on the manga, not the anime, so it could have totally different stuff. now i'm REALLY confused, because i just found it on eBay listed as both a guidebook and an artbook X_x *sigh* i can't seem to win... romances? like between characters? well, i have a few preferences in terms of pairings, but i've been avoiding discussion of those as pairing debates, in my experience, tend to get a bit...ugly...i just hope this stays civil... i personally believe that Soul and Maka are perfect for each other. that's the only one i'm really solid on, but otherwise i don't mind the idea of Black*Star and Tsubaki. any others i'm pretty much open to. |

AH HA !! It's an art/guidebook !!! no? oh well :p I don't mind looking at anime artbooks, some of the pictures are pretty good, but others aren't.... lol- civil... ( right. let's keep ourselevs from argument here ppl )yh Maka and Soul seem perfect, they know they don't always understand each other fully, but it's great when you see ( in the earliers episodes ) he threw himself over Maka to protect her from Stein ^^ - he was so serious, aww. |
