@izumo: Last thing I'm gonna say about the Tsukihime anime, I swear, lol: According to one of the interviews I read somewhere, Nasu and Takeuchi weren't really involved much at all with the anime's production. They occasionally were able to look over some early production stuff, but beyond that it was supposedly mostly hands off. (Also, I think I rather liked the original VN's lack of voice overs if only cause it left it up to your imagination that way).

Moving on, lol.

As for Mahoyo, I'd post a scan if I had a scanner, but according to my issue of Type Moon Ace 5, there are 3 other characters who play significant roles in the story:
A guy who looks to have a similar role as Arihiko named Kinomi Hosuke,
A girl who seems to be a Mitsuzuri type named Kumari Kojika,
and a guy who seems to potentially be a mix of Issei with a hint of Gilgamesh's arrogant pride named Tsukiji Tobimaru.
All three of them look to be good guy types :D

Most of the sample screens are now up on the site as well, cept a select few that seem to make Aoko look more of a playful tomboyish type.

As for the site itself, hahahahahahhahahaha, I have that song on my mp3 player just about looping constantly (great for getting this out of your head:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29-q7YnyUmY).

Can't wait for September 30th...

As for Fate/Extra, I've been playing through it and I'll just say this - the plot of this game is so complicated that my head hurts. Basically I'll just say that the whole thing is taking place in a computer system in the future, and that no one is really who they seem like they are (Rin isn't really Rin).
(Don't worry, that all above isn't spoilers since you find it out within pretty much the first 10 minutes of playing - it's pretty obvious once Kotomine starts referring to himself as an NPC :P)

As for other bits, yes, Aoko and Touko BOTH are in the game, albeit minor roles, and if you absolutely can't hold back the urge to look at this spoiler:There are some other characters as well that would surprise you

Yeah, when I first encountered the "hidden boss" I nearly dropped my PSP on the floor in surprise. All I know is Nasu's effectively taken a huge dump on all further Nasuverse power level debates as a result of it, lol.

@ h4xOr-san
Hahaha...yeah lets drop the Tsuki talk for the time being. We'll pick it up once the remake of the VN is complete than we can have a whole new discussion about it.

Fate/Extra has been out for oh a few days now & you are telling me you have completed the game already? You must have been on it 24/7....man i admire your dedication :D

I do have some questions about the actual gameplay of the game. Is it mostly a dungeon crawler or does it have some openess to it as well. In normal english is it linear at all? Was it difficult to get use to the battle mechanic as well cause what i seen it looked confusing at times. Finally what are your overall impressions of the game.

As for Mahoyo i have a hunch one of the 3 other characters may be Aoko's sister Toko. Or at least a cameo appearance if nothing else. If that is the case that would be pretty cool. This is a story about Aoko's past & knowing Nasu-san there will be a few suprises added for 'discussion'.

I know everytime i hear that music it just feels so inspirational & powerful. I have heard some really good music from VN over the many years i have been apart of this hobby from the Key titles, to stuff from Age (MuvLuv), Navel, & many others including of course Typemoon but this piece of music has something i can't explain......it makes you stop what you are doing just to listen to it. I still believe that CLANNAD has the greatest soundtrack in VN & to me not many has come close to that crown. However if the soundtrack of Mahoyo is anything like this piece of music than i may have to change my opinion.

Anyone know if there is a special/limited edition for Mahoyo cause so far all i can see is just a first press edition which comes with an artbook. Will there be another version with other goodies or is it just the first press only.

Cannot believ it. But is there any Saber Alter in the game at all?

@izumo

Fate/Extra: I've pretty much been power-playing it. Luckily I managed my time well prior to it arriving in the mail so I had about a solid 12 hours of free time over the course of the first two days (not counting "re-allocated" sleep time :P).

Anyways, as for the game itself: It's incredibly similar to Persona 3/4 if you've ever played them. When you're running around, you can visibly see "monsters" or enemies that are around, and if you hit them one way you can stun them to sneak by without fighting, but otherwise it takes you to a separate battle screen. In battle mode, you choose what moves you want to use and in what order, so there's some level of guessing when the enemy will attack and what they'll do when. It's kind of a rock-paper-scissors toss up but with certain indicators to look for. To really simplify it down, you have 3 basic options: Guard, Break, and Attack - Break > Guard, Attack > Break, Guard > Attack. Combat as a result is actually not too overbearingly complicated, though there are other subtleties.

That being said, this game is stuck on Japanese Touhou Lunatic difficulty. I wouldn't describe the difficulty or learning cycle as a "curve", but more like a sheer rock cliff with pungee pits at the bottom. Took me about an hour to adjust to it's unforgiving difficulty. Basically you have to be just as merciless right back at it. Example: If there's a combo you know that does a lot of damage, abuse it over and over again till you learn a new more powerful one.

As for the story, it's kinda route based, depending on some of the decisions you make (at some parts you have a sort of choice between saving one person or another, and depending who you go for totally different stuff may happen later). It isn't strict linear, but it definitely isn't super open. It also has a number of side-quest things that you can do (but don't have to at all if you don't want to).

Overall, I know at the heart of it this game is a giant fan-wank and I appreciate it, but at the same time the story is actually pretty good all things considered (The story is crazy convoluted from the original FSN...).

That, and the idea of a blond Rin just... it gives me weird chills.

Mahoyo: No, none of the three characters I mentioned are Touko, I can guarantee that much even by the character art and descriptions. She'll probably make a cameo appearance though judging from some of the weird screens I've seen, one of which has a doll frame that looks almost exactly like Aoko.

Soundtracks: Eh, I didn't think Clannad's soundtrack was super great. It was very unique, very well done, and fit perfectly for what it was supposed to do, but it wasn't the kind I'd put on my mp3 player and listen to much. FSN's was closer to that, and it's variety gave it a little more edge for me, but it still wasn't quite as amazing as I think it could have been. I know it's weird and doesn't make much sense considering what I just said, but I'm rather quite partial to most of the songs in Kagetsu Tohya. Simple beats with a lot of variety from calm to jazzy and cool.

And so far, yes, the only version of Mahoyo that's been announced is the first press edition.

Yeah, there's also a silly clicking mini-game involving Caster where you get her to dress up in various outfits and while she's changing you try to unlock each of the padlocks on her door. If you are absolutely insane you'll be able to pull it off (and I do mean insane, because to get it all the way is STUPID hard), you get some silly CG along the lines of what you'd expect :P

Finally heard the Supercell song that will be featured as the ending song for Mahoyo. 星が瞬くこんな夜に or Hoshi ga Matataku Konna Yoru ni is not bad.

This is the radio rip version.

The lyrics were posted on the youtube page for those looking for them. The official CD release is on August 25 which is next week.

@ Maxxus-san
Like JC-san said the DVD/bluray will be released on September 30th, since it is a feature length film it may take subbers a few days to release a sub version. Probably similar to the length it took to sub the Kara no Kyoukai films.

Some quick updates and info to pass along.

It looks like the final chapter of Kara no Kyoukai is indeed being animated like some of us predicted it will be (cough..h4x0r-san...cough). This is great news cause the epilogue has some very interesting events & plot points of the story that are revealed. A special guest will make their appearance as well if i remember correctly.

I believe it is a straight to DVD release rather than the theatrical releases the previous movies were or i could be mistaken. Being available on February 2, 2011 along with the REALLY expensive BluRay boxset release of all the Kara films which includes this last chapter. Of course there are plenty of perks that this set will include like commentary, artbook etc. etc. all for the low low price of 50,000yen or $500 US!!!!

**************

The DVD release of UBW is fast approaching so it won't be long for us to see another side of the Fate series that wasn't shown in the original anime release. Fans of Rin & Archer are going to be excited for this one. Now all i hope for is a Heaven's Feel anime to compltete the trilogy & i'll be content.

*************

On a much lighter note here are some fan made short comics i found that are pretty funny. There are some rather 'explicit' language & themes to these so a warning if you are sensitive to these i suggest you don't click on the images. Those who care less go nuts!

*Note* Supposedly there is an order that these are gone by but i'm too lazy to organize these.

Actually, at it's MSRP of 52500 yen is closer to $620 USD, though you can get it on amazon for around 38500 yen ($450 USD).

All I know is when I first heard about it I was bouncing up and down in my chair flipping out over the extras as I read the article, to the point I was too happy to notice the price tag :P

Once I did though I found myself in a catch 22 - I've been saving up for a while to buy an HDTV worthy of watching the UBW and what I thought back then was an inevitable KnK bluray release, so I was planning on saving up until December for a $600-ish 1080p 120hz HDTV. Once I heard the announcement for the KnK bluray box, I basically found myself deciding, "Should I get the TV to eventually watch the blurays on? or should I buy the blurays that will eventually get watched on a nice TV?".

Also what's REALLY amazing about all this is the blurays already come with ENGLISH SUBTITLES ON THE DISCS. So you can straight up watch them on your HDTV without worrying about somehow re-burning a copy of the blurays with subtitles on them.

The additions of the artbooks, Kara no Kyoukai Seventh Heaven Remix, TV specials, and most importantly the new 30 minute OVA is pretty flippin awesome too!!

I don't know how I'm going to pull together another $500 by February especially since I'm about to blow $200 soon on the UBW Special Edition Bluray and 1st Print Edition of Mahou Tsukai no Yoru, but I'll be darned if I don't find a way!

@izumo: In regards to Heaven's Feel, I think you might be a little pleased if I point you to the end of this interview article a friend of mine did for ANN - Geneon Universal Industry Panel - July 2010

Not much, but at least there's hope :D

As for the comics, they're full of 4chan and 2ch jokes, but they were originally by a guy on deviantart named veloxiraptor. Needless to say they are quite hilarious indeed :D

On another note, in regard to the UBW movie, do you really think we'll need to wait for subs izumo? I mean, I'm sure you and I at least know the plot well enough to know what they're saying even without the subs ^_^

@ h4x0r-san
Yeah i'm really tempted to pick up this box-set though i'm unsure if i will be really able to. Just like yourself there are other 'goodies' available around that time so my budget will be tested for sure. I may have to abandon some stuff that i wanted to make room for this set. *sigh* sacrifices sacrifices....

About the 'possible' HF anime, that would be flippin awesome. Like i said many times it is my fave scenario just cause it is so intense & brutal. Probably the most violent of the 3 scenarios & i can see why it may be difficult to cater to both the hardcore fans & for mainstream. My wish for this to be animated started when i saw the intro for it in the PS2 remake Realta Nua, seeing the end of that clip where Shiro & Rin pleading to Sakura & you see her shed a tear...epic! If it does get animated i can see it being an OVA release instead of a theatrical release due to the censorship of the scenario to keep the rating low would be difficult.

There is a very good chance the UBW film will be fansubbed at one point, but since it is a feature length film it may take them some time to do so. Probably the same amount of time it took to sub the Kara films. For HD watchers it may take even longer to encode but we'll see it eventually.

MOST.

DISSAPPOINTING.

DEEN PRODUCTION.

EVER.

Soooooooooooooooooooooo many of the scenes that actually made UBW awesome (and I don't mean any old scenes, I mean ones that REALLY were the REASON the route was epic) were either cut, or butchered to pieces to the point that they managed to make them NOT COOL ANYMORE. That practically takes concious effort. I mean, yeah, sure I wasn't expecting them to cram in all or most of it with the time frame they were given, but there were even some SIMPLE things they could've done a hell of a lot better without adding time to the film length and retaining what made the scenes awesome.

For Example: (I'm sorry, but if any of this is a spoiler to you, you shouldn't be watching this movie anyways cause it is very much aimed at people who have already played the route)

Now, objectively speaking, if all you're looking for is literally JUST animated combat of all the fight scenes from the UBW route, you'll be plenty happy. But if you were hoping for any bit whatsoever of the emotionally tugging scenes or awesome dialogue, just play the route itself again instead.

Rin was not pleased.

(here's to hoping that my bluray at least comes with a film strip from one of the few better scenes.... -_-)
