Stop it!!!!! This argument has gone on long enough. I saw Gendous-sama's sig and while I do not approve of violence of any kind I shall point out a few things.
I am an artist I have been since I was a little girl and I believe it is every artists right to paint, draw, sculpt, etc what they wish. I may not like it but it is their right as an artist. Case in point; When I was in college an art professor brought in a painting I thought was absolutely disgusting. It showed Tinkerbell caught in a spiders web with a huge spider nearby getting ready to eat her. It was a very realistic painting. We were told that there was going to be an exhibit of this artists work and he wanted all of us to go. I was appalled at what I saw. The theme; Violence and abuse in the land of faerie tales. Amost any faerie tale you can think of was shown. Snow White being abused by the dwarves, Cinderella force feeding the wicked queen with apples, Rapunzel burning the witch at the stake. I did comment to my professor and told him I thought it was file and disgusting and the exhibit should be closed. My reason; faeries and faerie tales play an important part in my life and I thought it was the same as child abuse. I said a lot more as well. Unknown to me the young woman, Julie, we were talking to was the artist and you can imagined how embarrassed I was when my professor finally introduced us. We got into an argument over what was right and wrong in art and what should be seen. I was asked if I had a showing how would I feel if it was closed because of the subject matter? Julie challenged me and said that there had to be at least one piece in the show I I thought would be acceptable so we went to look. In a far corner was a painting, violent, plain murder. The victim; shot through the heart with his assailant standing over the body with her foot on his chest and the gun in her hand with a very satisfied look on her face. I was stunned, it was perfect in every way, the characters, the subject, everything totally perfect. That painting it now hangs in my home where everyone can see it. Julie was right, I did find something I liked and I learned that while we may not like something created it is no reason to say it should not be seen. An artist puts a lot of effort and a lot of their "self" into the work they create, I know, I do as well. It takes time and effort even to create a simple pencil drawing. You may not like it and you certainly have the right to be a critic. However to argue over whether it should be seen or not is not right. The painting I was given eventually became a book cover (seen below) is one of my favorites. It is titled: Malice in Winderland. That damned rabbit finally got what he deserved. |
