Re: Filipinos - do they have ORIGINAL ideas?
|
| I can only speak as an outsider (non-filipino). I respect the filipino people. Like someone said so what if you had different influences, it happens elsewhere too. Filipino's are bright people and have original ideas. Maybe the youth should keep some of the older traditions. My girlfriend is filipino and I've been to the Phillipines. Don't admire others so much..have self pride and do your best for yourselves. |

Ouch. That last part stings. I am filipino, and I understand what you're trying to say. Not all filipino's are like this. If you get to know some filipino who are not that influenced by some, they have original ideas. To tell the truth, some youth in the Philippines do not try to appreciate more of our cultures, i would say that. But, again, SOME. Having self-pride and seflfishness doesnt count on what country you're from. Its what you are. really. Its up to you if you want to change or not. |

I'm not a pinoy (want to use this word ^^) anyway thing is that in every country people have their own rejection to the country they belongs to. For you guys it would be about originality. for me well not really far off (i'm indonesian btw) about the media first, they also have similar to what you experience (indonesian idol, bla bla bla) heck they (the people) copy anything that they see make a lot of money (even a job.... if one particular business goes well other tends to follow in exact copy.... wew) now leave the media shall we... anyway it's not that the question about do you have originality... but questioning yourself but do you not have originality?? (motivational question if you asked me ^^) but it's likely when you were asked like that you tend to search on what you didn't have first (typical human) anyway all country have something that they'd been influence on.. event the america or england. they too have something are not original someone said this (forgot who) he(I believe he is a he) said nothing is original anymore. all part of it have something that the past already invent. but now through creativity we change that and make one convenient to us for use. so don't look down upon yourself ^^ be proud edited: before someone get wrong idea about what I'm trying to say ^^ what I'm trying to say that you have your originality and influence (no matter what percentage that is) anyway if you look in one side then you might question your originality. but if you look on the other side also you will see that you do have originality ^^ just like a coin that is all i'm trying to say ^^

I'm a Filipino, sad to say, the ones who had original ideas are fading away. Nowadays, we just adapt ideas and "improvise" on it. It's very evident on our society. Emo's, rappers, etc etc... Name it, we almost have it. I observe the TV everyday, and walk outside, to observe. It's like Mumbai/Slums of USA/Vietnam in one country. I'm ashamed on it, because the "youngs" of country is now slaves to other country's culture, when Rizal is only relying on these youths in the near future. |

Philippines and USA have a very close bond. Philipinnes is like a child and US as the father. enough said. |

no, not enough said. I mean like filipinos in the PI look up to the US like you said, but it's like alot of things in the US are cool to them. The clothes, the shoes, the tech. I've personally heard alot about filipinos who try to dress in the most popular brand name clothes, or at least copy them. they love white people. there are alot of filipinos who will use whitening lotion to have lighter skin. and then white people want to be tan like filipinos XD

I second the motion. Why are we have to be puppets to others? Hey, imagine this, we already borrowed most of our beliefs, traditions, and even our language to races that lived here, as far as our country's history is concerned. Emos, Rappers?! WTH?! And this Filipino shirt, with logos etc, etc. Do even this people understand deeply the meaning of patriotism and nationalism. Taiwan is fighting until now for their sovereignty in the hands of China, to call themselves as "Taiwanese" not Chinese. Let's face it, people nowadays always this "Filipino pride" attitude, but few of these people understands it. I want to enquote what Socrates said about being a citizen: "I am not an Athenian, nor a Greek. But a citizen of the world." If we don't have a cultural revolution, just minus Mao Zedong's frantic killing, just change our norms. I will consider myself, a citizen of the world, not as a citizen of the Philippines. Even I'm born here. It's time to change, let us ourselves in culture check. Wake up, my fellow Filipinos! We're still in this game!! |

Wow, some Pilipinos do care about their mother country. Actually, I came here looking for the guy who started this thread saying how we are a faceless bunch of people trying to mirror other cultures as if it depended on our survival. But, now I see it's quite the opposite. This, to me, is a very touchy topic and as soon as I see something with our name on it, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I come up knockin'. Frankly, I love this damn country and how I feel it's like me - it seems bad now but you can sense potential within its corrupt core. True, the years have not been kind on us, getting ravaged by colonizers on one side then another. Spain took us in, then treated us like a used napkin and with us ending up like mexicans but somewhat worse. Don't get me wrong though, mexicans are a fine hardworking people but can you see our similarities with them? Most of the bad things happening to both our countries took root during the spanish invasion. Then again, they did bring their technology with them but that doesn't redeem them for the damage they caused. Next is the americans. They're not really the helping hand that they seem to be. When the spanish were ousted from our country, their power was already waning all over the world and I remember there had only 3 "colonized" countries remaining, with us and mexico and another. The americans felt it right in their power to free us from the battle-weary Spain. I remember they signed a deal with spain then fought a mock battle resulting into deaths of a great number of spaniards(somewhere along hundreds or thousands but I can't confirm it) with american casualties totaling to a single digit number. After that the american occupation began. Up were bases built along our coasts and provinces because of our strategic position in Asia. I remember hearing something like us serving as a dock for ships for refuelling and restocking of supplies to a listening post for early detection of threats. English was made a mandatory subject in schools which was why most of us were fluent in it. They held so much influence on us that their language was made our 2nd tongue. It is not that its so bad but if you think that they can push that on us, what were the other things that they have done? So, uh, the Japanese, huh. Most of them were really a bunch of arrogant pricks but I don't really mean any offense, so don't go flaming me...please? They felt something akin to the Arian race of Germany and started conquering countries and fortunately we were America's bitch(again no offense meant) and Uncle Sam rose to destroy the Japanese threat with the twin a-bombing of their cities. I know they are undergoing transition from Imperial Japan to a semi-imperial one on the account of them losing the war and whatnot, but still their technological achievements are giving them a bit of an attitude, not to mention how succesful anime is. I mean no offense and if you would like, see these views as if made by a madman. These do not represent the views of all Pilipinos and I would like you to reconsider flaming other guys. Thank you.

They have original ideas. Everyone has. But whenever one Filipino comes up with a brilliant thought, a million of other Filipinos scrap or ignore that idea away, in favor of the foreign ones. Other countries recognize Filipino talent, but Filipinos do not recognize their own. Look at Jun Palafox. His expertise is used by other countries but his own country practically ignores his idea. Crab Mentalility. Xenocentrism. Traits of majority of the Filipinos.
Speak, and you will be heard. I am here to listen.

For Me Many Of The Filipinos ARE IDIOTS Why,Coz Many Pinoys Prefer Buying Original things Like SHOE ITEMS like ADDIDAS,PUMA,ETC. So Ill Ask You What would FILIPINO prefer to buy,Outside the country OR In MARIKINA THE SHOE CAPITAL OF THE PHILIPINES? well youll mostly say "ah Marikina The Shoes There ARE not tough, No Fashion at all , Err Im Rich Why Would I buy There? Thats The COmmon reason Why Filipinos Try TO immitate,Cos if this shoes has a brand or as long as its popular they tend to buy it But What Other Filipinos Did not know is that Our Product Are The Best still NOT "THE BEST" but its worth buying so if Filipinos Only Support Each Other May Be This Immitating Thing or copying Originial ideas might stop. Well Thats What i Think |

*ahem* I can't mutter a word. *ahem* hey, it's not our fault that we do not have our original ideas; we were colonized by great countries like ******** America and ******* Spain. Besides, 'not here', those who do not buy on "Marikina" are socialized, ******* people! They are the people who speaks English more than their original language, Tagalog!! Sh** this, many are like brainwashed by the colonizing countries. Damn... And you do not know it but Filipinos are way too creative at festivals and stuffs. Probably you wouldn't understand(even if I do not know if you are a Filipino or not. If you are or not, don't ever reply to my post!) but Filipinos have originality, Godda****!! I tell ya', IT'S NOT OUR ******* FAULT, YOU *******!! *ahem* well, I think that made my anger be gone. We Filipinos may have been imitating other countries, as well as "anime" and "cartoons" as well, but I tell ya', it's not our freaking fault! |

Simply put, the Philippines is an already established mix-raced country since before Spaniards came into the islands. It was made even stronger after a series of colonizations. We couldn't develop a defined culture like the ones from China and Japan since we are not an isolated country from the beginning. The fact that we only became self-aware when the nuclear age came and the information age is still taking its root is the biggest factor for this "imitations". With that theory in mind, we simply can't help it. We already had a smudged face. But we still have this wonderful mixed culture and I'm already proud that I'm a pinoy. OFFTOPIC: What's bad in this country? The government system; the constitution.

I have one question, why are you all generalizing Filipinos? Do you think all Filipinos are like that? Can you blame them if other countries would take advantage of our country? All I'm just saying, if you want to know the Philippines why not live here to know it for yourself? And not just because Peter is selfish, Thomas is also selfish. Like Lord of Lightning had said, we were been colonized several times so some of our ideas were influenced by the colonizers so people think "Hey that's our idea, that's our trademark". I agree also to what Nandai had said we hadn't given a chance to nurture our own culture, but the government system and constitution is not the main problem but the people. Instead of blaming the government, the corruption, the constitution why not, us, as individuals do little things for our country's sake. If us, will work together we can come up unique ideas that only Philippines can claim it's ours. |
