Earth... Might die in the future?
|
well the title says it... my science and even geography teachers said that earth resources are depleting fast and might disappear one day and that leads to a big prob with the diseases running around now... its like we, living organisms on Earth, are slowly killed by what we do?like... we burn fossil fuels for the electricity and others stuffs we do everyday.. and the fumes fom it goes to the coulds and rains=acid rain? that kills. so, what you guys say for this? enlighten me...
sad, no sig.

that is what technology has brought to the world. yet we continue to discover things. we tend to invent machines, gadgets, and other material things to make life easier, we strive to be more God-like, when in truth, we are overusing our natural resources. unless we return to our roots and be contented to have a fairly simple life. |

In my opinion , the end of earth would not be caused by the lack of natural resources nor anything else. I think the world will be destroyed by mankind itself with alot of country yet to recover from the previous market downfall , the next one should be coming around next year again in a long term if this goesn on everyone is gonna go on a riot war amongst our own kind.. I forsee the death of jobs as all the major corporates are downsizing and the competitive market the crime rate will increase in an insane rate and we'll end up killing each other. Well thats just what think , maybe Im just too paranoid. |

@lonerz: this is not a physics post...I have tried to pass one off that was pretty scientific..but its just sci-fi...somebody will probably move this, hopefully not delete! yeah I think that the corporate conflict will be likely, but in the mid-future, 40yrs. the threat to our natural resources is a grave and guaranteed one, im afraid. first off, we are wasting way too much resources in everything amd everything. second, most, if not all the easy to mine and harvest material has already been attained and squandered. third, whether through time or from a great natural/man-made disaster, we will not be able to attain the pinnacle of our existence for many thousands of years, after which, the earth would upturned and natural resources easy to attain again. also, on the aspect of slowly killing ourselves...its true and unavoidable, too many selfish, ignorant, and arrogant people to stop those dreaded cogs from rolling. I wouldnt worry about it not being corrected though eventually as mother earth will do it over time, thousands of years for us to stagnant! :) by the way, please comment on my failed thread, "view on life"
I could give no less because I could give no more. ~myself

what your teacher taught you is true, but also remember that the energy resources can still last several generations. So you don't have to worry about it, but your grand-children might have to. My advice: don't use more then necessary. -Bike to school, instead of car. -Water is rare, so don't spill it. -When nobody is in the room and it's not going to be used for more then 30 mins, close the light. -Instead of stand-by, shut down. -Etc. |

Yeah, the human condition leads to its own self destruction, but just like any other part of nature, equilibrium is reached in time. You'd see a significant drop in the human population, then when that happens, nature is allowed time to heal itself. Just like preditors dying off because they took out too many of their prey. When they die off, the give the prey time to repopulate. |
Re: Earth... Might die in the future?

i think that yes, because: 1. If we continue living in the way that we do it, eventully we're going to destroy the Earth. 2. no matter how much can survive the earth, eventually it will be destroyed by the sun, because as all of us know, the sun is a star and they eventually die.. and when a star dies then go BOOM! so u can imagine the rest. |

Paxo, you need to take a physics class. The sun will continue to expand into a red giant, and will engulf the earth long before collapsing into a white dwarf. Our sun is far too tiny to go supernova (boom!). and, regarding the prior comment: no, we will not destroy the earth. we may render it inhabitable to all life, but it will continue to orbit the sun! |

@ gendou-sama: This is not related to the topic but I just wanna ask this: The sun won't be a supernova? Why? I know that it will become a Red Giant then into a white dwarf but it won't go into a supernova? I just can't believe it! Another question: will it turn into a Black Hole? Thanks. |

yeah... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nova http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supernova http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_hole http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_giant http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_dwarf read those articles if you want to understand it all well. the short version is this: - all stars die - big stars die in a big explosion, galled super nova - super nova results in a black hole - all stars swell up all big before they die, called red giant - just before a star dies, it collapse to white dwarf - our sun is medium sized, too small for black hole |
