i don't know if this would work but i hope it helps. since you were doing right click > save picture as, you might want to try putting a .jpg extension at the end of each filename so that it becomes a jpeg file. :) let me know what happens. :)

do you mean. after you click Save Pic. As... then change the "Save Type As" to a JPEG file. if that's what you mean the option doesnt even show up... it would either be .art or .bmp...I dont know why this is happening ^_T

Sounds like you're using AOL's browser. Is this true? :o

Edit: Okay, going into more detail. AOL's browser is pretty messed up. If I were you, use another browser (Firefox is a great example). Otherwise you'll have to go into some settings in AOL and change things around. But even then it wouldn't fix the problem permanently.

Also, if you want to 'preview' any picture files (using the default picture preview program):

Right-click the file
Click 'Open With'
-If there's a list that pops up, checkmark the 'Always open with...' option
Choose 'Windows Picture and Fax Viewer'

And you should be set.

I guess I am using AOL. That's my internet source. What does this Firefox do, and what happens after I download it? will I be able to save pictures again? or is this just a first step to something else?

Oh yeah, K05, I dont think taht works because I tried it after you told me. I think you can only do this if its a bmp file or a jpg file. Ex if its a bmp file, and I put .jpg at the end, the file will be ---.jpg but it will still be known as a bmp.

hello ^__^.

with regards to previewing the picture... you can follow riceboks instructions ^__^:

Right-click the file
Click 'Open With'
-If there's a list that pops up, checkmark the 'Always open with...' option
Choose 'Windows Picture and Fax Viewer'

about mozilla firefox, it's a browser like aol, internet explorer, etc. i guess riceboks was just suggesting that you can use that as your browser instead of aol.

i dunno if this will help too but you could set the pictures to be displayed in thumbnails. that way you can have a small preview of the pictures. just go to the folder where you saved the pictures... go to view menu then select thumbnails and there you can see a small version of the pictures you've saved. when you double-click the picture, the default picture viewer will display the image you've just selected.

with regards to changing the picture type from .bmp to .jpg i can suggest something you can do. you can try opening the picture first in ms paint. then go to file menu, click save as... and then a dialog box would appear. down at the bottom part of the dialog box you'll see save type as. you'll see that since the picture is .bmp the default value is 24-bit bitmap. just click the drop down combo box and from there choose JPEG. then click save. what happens is if you'll notice now you have 2 copies of the picture in your files. one in .bmp format and the other in .jpg format. you can simply delete the .bmp format since .jpg is much smaller. but with regards to the picture quality well there are some cases where the .bmp format is better. but in a way there's only a small difference between the two with regards to picture quality (in most cases). so it's up to you which one you'd prefer to keep. n__n'

hope this helps. ^___^ if ever i got something wrong, please correct me...

AOL's browser is just retarded. The .art and .bmp files you're downloading are just files AOL is compressing. I guess it would allow for 'faster' browsing, but it doesn't do much.

So yes, please download Firefox and use it as a browser! If you have any more problems, feel free to ask.

here's one more that might actually help..

just save the file as it is.. (may it be bmp or other extensions..,, then edit the picture in paint, then save it as jpg.. :)

or you might want to consider using internet explorer 6 too.. :)

The thing with paint, though, is that when you save any image as .jpg, it compresses the image to high hell.

I don't mean to be mean or anything, but only use IE if 1) you're on a university computer or 2) you know your network is very secure.

Well, you have to have a host server, you upload the picture there, then it is now online!

I use paint to save an image to .png file. It's better than .jpg because it retains the original, I think.

I should've locked this sooner.

The issue was not being able to save images properly using AOL's craptastic skin of IE. Problem resolved, no more discussssssionnnnnnnn..
