Iron Chef America = DISGRACE
Link | by gendou on 2005-01-02 01:26:48
truly a sign of the apocalypse, new to the food netowrk is a show called Iron Chef America. this tv show is a disgrace. i had the unfortunate chance to see the making of iron chef america on tv.
as i flipped through the channels to the food network, i saw bobby flay doing the "raise the roof" bullshit on top of the cooking table after throwing a cooking pan to the side.
instead of a green pepper, the host bites into an apple. one word: LAME.
i urge anyone who agrees with me to send feedback so that the food network knows how bad this show is.
anyone else care to comment on this show?

Yeah, i was walking through my house and sat down to watch some tv when i saw the commercial for it. in my head, i merely thought....what a load of crap. it so happens that they showed it right after, wasn't i so lucky that there was nothing good on? *sarcasm*
I think it's just full of crap. And c'mon, no other chefs are better than the Iron Chefs, man! They can't think their better just because they're chefs from America (seriously.....)

I agree, Gendou! I am a huge fan of Iron Chef (have the guidebook :D), and to see them trying to emulate the show is laughable... These people may be excellent chefs, but if you're going to have an American cooking competition show, at least come up with your own ideas...

Don't copy & ripoff another show, which is an insult to it... That just proves that all we can do is copycat greatness... And if memory serves me right, I believe there was a competition between Bobby Flay himself & Morimoto on the true Iron Chef, and Flay made a complete obnoxious jerk of himself, doing that dancing on the table... I believe Morimoto called it a disgrace to the respect that a chef should have for his kitchen & tools, or somesuch...

Again, if they're going to make an American cooking competition show, let's at least prove that our tv network producers have some frigging originality, and aren't copycatting zombies trying to imitate another show, to the point where you have to laugh... (I mean, c'mon, biting into the Apple?? :D)...

(SIDENOTE: There is a petition to get Iron Chef released on DVD somewhere on the net (can't recall where, but if you search for Iron Chef DVD on Google, you should find it)... If more & more sign it, hopefully we will see some boxed sets one of these days!

Every anime Ive seen where a character goes to America says the food here sucks. I completely agree. Dejiko(Digi Charat) and Kurata Sana(Kodomo no Omocha) are two examples. There is no such thing as american cuisine why make an iron chef america.

THe point of the story is America food < all other food. Even Mcdonalds in Japan tastes 100x better.

I like the orginal Iron Cheif from over sea alot better myself too. I just sad that they did such a poor@$$ job dubbing it (I once am able to watch it on food network). Then again alot of dubbing of old show see you on tv are very poor.

Never date a guy stranger than you. If so, make sure he's loaded.

The original is far superior but I'm willing to support anything that gives Masaharu Morimoto a job (even though they make him lose all the time here).

I don't see what the big fuss is...98% of all television shows are complete crap anyway. Why is one more crappy TV show a big deal?

People say that the original is far better than the American version, but does anyone really have a reason why? Yeah sure, the Mark Ducacus eats an apple instead of bell pepper, but that doesn't even matter. The cooking is all that matters, and so far it's pretty consistant to what the cooking is like in the Japan version. Also, I believe Altin Brown is doing a great job coming up with all the innerworkings of the meals as he does on 'Good Eats.'

TV is soooo bad for your health.

The honest truth, is that it is healthier to sit on your TV and watch your couch.

I also haven't seen Iron Chef America cuz the whole concept for the show is just terrible.

The cooking is not consistent with the original. On the original Iron Chef they take crap that I would never eat in a million years and turn it into something that is appetizing and delicious looking. On the American version the secret ingredients are weak, the judges (except for the Queer Eye dude) are closed minded and won't try anything new like when Big Pussy (that's the only name I know him under) wouldn't eat any kind of sushi or raw ingredients, and my other gripe is the host chooses which Iron Chef does battle which in my opinion makes for precalculated, boring, food battles. Whenever the judges do try something new you get comments like, "I can't believe I actually like this" or "Maybe you should try harder to appeal to an American palet". I agree that Altin Brown rules with an iron fist but aside from that the entire dynamic of the show is lost when compared to original.

I hate it when he says that.

Perhaps the ingredients aren't as daring, but that's besides the point. What kind of argument is that when the only thing you can find is main ingredients. That's not a justifiable answer to why original is better, because you're saying had the american version progressed to more rare or shifty ingredients, the two shows would be at par with each other.

Who says it's an argument? You were the one that said the cooking was consistent. You asked for reasons why people don't like the American version of the show. I simply expressed mine. By the way, I love when people tell me what I'm saying. This was just a small question about Iron Chef but if you want me to fully interperet; What I am saying is that if you're going to use a formula from a TV show from another country and base your show on the model of that predecessor you should go all the way and not half ass it with weak theme (Girls Vs Guys)battles and lame ingredients. You want to know why else I don't like the show? Two words: Bobby Flay. He always prepares variations of the same dishes and shows no innovation. At least Batalli is watchable but are either of these two men remotely equals to Kenichi, Sakai, or dare I say Kobe. Not from the dishes I'm seeing. But hey, why take it seriously? It's just Iron Chef.
