New Anime that COULD make it in Western Market
Link | by atenhotep on 2006-03-13 08:32:07
Name a anime that would enter Europe/American television. Old Anime that made it were: Pokemon, DBZ, YuGiOh!, B-Daman, Shaman King Etc.

The Western people like things as: Inexperienced Loser turns into Unbeatable Master, like Pokemon, Yugioh, Naruto etc.

Or anime with no storylines, like Shin-Chan, Hamtaro, Sailor Moon.

Ecchi is taboo for them, so is Horror

Inuyasha is already in the Western Market. Seeing as how Naruto (and Viz Media) is doing well with the kiddies, I'd say Bleach would make it here. Hrm, I'd list more, but it's better to look for which anime is licensed already. :P

OMG, Nudity o.O! Luckely the Western People know what to do: they cut out that episode. What's a waste, since you will miss a part of the storyline...

honestly i hope no anime makes its way to the western market, they cut out all the good parts and the voice acting is terrible, i hate how japanese names are pronouced in english. i can't stand watching the anime that is all ready here because of those factors. thats maybe why i don't like Inuyasha cuz i saw it dubbed first.

Bleach has already been licensed, but there's no official air dates set yet. Anything that's on before 10PM right now in the US is crap. The only good animes come on after that if at all. It used to be you could watch good stuff right after school, but now it's all BS.

I think any adventure type or usually ones that involve fighting demons or some usage of magic would make it here. Rarely if ever will a drama/romance be shown (this applies to my channel from what I've seen). I haven't seen too many new series but I'd pick Gundam SEED Destiny, Tsubasa Chronicles and maybe even Last Exile as contenders for TV.

Or anime with no storylines, like Shin-Chan, Hamtaro, Sailor Moon.

In defense I've seen all of sailormoon and it does have a storyline, but it also belongs in the group of butchered series that play on tv in north america. Hamtaro, Pokemon, B-Damon; those are examples of what I call "kiddy" shows. I have YTV and they are slowly bringing in more mature anime which is to my liking. They've brought Witch Hunter Robin, Ghost in the Shell, Gundam SEED, and even Full Metal Alchemist now. I hope they bring Bleach as I want to see it. As of yet, no series with ecchi scenes have been picked up.

honestly i hope no anime makes its way to the western market, they cut out all the good parts and the voice acting is terrible, i hate how japanese names are pronouced in english.

While I agree with the cuts and edits they make which should have been kept, I keep the mindset that damn, at least I get to see it. It's a shame that I'm not able to watch it for how it is meant to be portrayed but back then I got to watch zero anime so I rather see edited ones than nothing. Later on, I search out the japanese versions and see how different they are and enjoy them even more. I completely understand how people don't like the dubbed versions especially for those who have never seen anime, watch these versions, then come to us anime faithfuls and knock off anime as being stupid. In fact, a lot of my peers at school who were unknowledgeable about anime just passed them all off as hentai, or anything ecchi as hentai. I wanted to smack them!

Chances are anything with nudity won't make it to YTV, but seeing as it is slowly shifting away from Sunrise/Bandai to Viz, maybe I'll get to see Hikari no Go. With FMA, maybe even more shows from FUNimation. Less and less edits are being made so who knows, maybe in the future we'll get to see completely unedited works but I'm glad anime is being shown in north america.

Umm...I'll take anything that I can (beggars can't be choosers) but then I am not the entire Western zone.....><
And with the "no anime to the west" idea, AHHHHHHH!!!! THAT'S MY PRIMARY SOURCE RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!! Until I become very rich or learn to download w/out killing the computer....^^...
Well, to actually answer the question, mainstream ppl would probably like action, hero/heroine stories, and...
Not all Westerners love only the stuff considered crap, or what mainstream ppl like.....A lot do, though. ^^
