Hi I am part of a program that teaches teens to fight for what they feel is right. My topic is about gays, lesbians, transgender, bisexual, and questioning youth. I am asking for people's opinion so please when answering, say what you believe in. It doesn't matter what your belief's are. Here is the question: What's your opinion, feelings, on gays, lesbians, transgenders, anyone with a non-traditional sexual orientation and their rights? Please also include what country you are from. Thank you so much! |

Well, as a Catholic, i should be against all that. God did create men and women to be a couple whose sole purpose is to create humanity. Like ying and yang, heaven and hell, north and south, light and darkness, sun and moon (day and night), there are men and women. There has to be balance of opposites. But to be honest, for me i don't really care anymore. It's still strange to see gays and lesbos, but if that makes them happy then so be it. EDIT: oh yeah, i'm from Australia. |

I'm just about happiness. If people are happy being the way they are, then let them be. The GLBT community is also fighting for human rights in many countries. Here in the US I still don't see how people can be closed minded about these things; the GLBT community is no different from anyone else, so why treat them differently? If it's not obvious, I'm from the US. :P    |

I personally i side with christianity, mainly because i respect the values it teaches, and the whole sexual orientation thing, but i stick to mostly scientific evidence instead of unprovable statements. Our species as a whole has totally evolved in ways we couldnt imagine, though id rather not see any of the listed types of people, some people are born that way or are just plain messed up in the head. In my opinion i feel uncomfortable having contact with any such people for i have had a firsthand experience with a gay classmate, and that it takes a male and a female to produce another human, and just like how the same sides of a magnet repel, so should humans. I truely dont mind any of them, but if their affairs cross mine, then thats when things get ugly From Canada :O

Well, speaking in the side of Catholics is me. Catholic Church DOES NOT CONDEMN gays and lesbians because of what they are. In fact, they accept them. God did create them as they are. The only thing that the Catholic Church does not agre about is G+G or L+L relationship. One you entered a relationship, it is considered as adultery BUT when it is only a crush, it is okay, even dreaming, as long as no bad desires with the same sex. "Opposite sides of the magnets repel..." You are partly right and partly wrong because: 1. God did create the world with opposite sex and man to man of woman to woman is not possible. 2. Wrong because we, humans, are not magnets. I mean magnets are constant, not changing, not flowing. We, humans, change, flow. It means that we are like the algebraic symbol "x." Not sure, inexact. So I say that humans need not be fenced by his or her limitations a a human being. |

*edit: fixed the text since my psp cant keep many letters in memory CA, USA I am pretty indifferent about the GLT Community. Unless a person affects me a very negative way (not just teasing or simply "existing"), I am completely kool with accepting them as any other human being, becuase they are as different and unique as any human being is to another. Although, esentialy, I dont really mind whether or not they are able to get married or not as well as the other obvious issues bundled with that. Also, I think its not "right" in both the science and religous aspect basically due to how we naturally need a man and a woman to reproduce or species. But I also do not think we should label the issue as "bad" since only God himself is the sole judge and science relies on what is & what works. If God didnt want the GLT Community to exist, why does he allow them to come into being? If science only allows us to "live" as either gender in order to survive, why do GLT exist and yet still be able to "live?"

Personally I don't trust God and religion even thought my ID card says that I'm a Catholic. My honest opinion is : Even thought I still find it strange and pretty ridiculous in my eye. Don't discriminate them, because they're still human not alien or something that will eat or anything. And they just have different ideology and taste. Well I can say this because some time ago I was being teased by a gay on my way home from school and what happen ... of course I run like The Flash. After that I was wondering what if I become one of them (only wondering okay), would I get the same treatment like the way I am now? and if I don't isn't that discrimination and of course that will hurt my feeling?. And just leave them they way they are even thought in my country Indonesia it's still unacceptable. It's not like I'm gay or lesbian or bisex or etc I was just trying to look from their eye. EXCEPT if you encounter something like me or the guy you meet is having a mental disease like schizophrenia or hypersex etc because that's gonna be dangerous. As a symbol I can be incorruptible. |

Even gays and lesbians have the right to live. They're just people with very strange "hormones" after all. But don't get me wrong, I'm straight. This is just MY OPINION about gays and lesbians . Oh yeah, I'm from the Philippines (hehehe...).

Males and females differ by one chromosome in 42. Their brains, hearts, and if they have them, souls, develop by the same laws of nature. They are not opposites. Male and female members of a play different reproductive roles. This, by DEFINITION, is their ONLY distinction. The argument that heterosexual relationships are "good" and homosexual relationships are "bad" is a value judgment. Even if you base your value judgment off patterns in nature, you are still passing a judgment on how other people live their lives! (read that twice and think about it for about a minute, its worth it) @Muunraito: you have an ID card that says your religion?? what country are you living in? @Nero: it is scientifically unfounded to claim that the reason people choose to practice homosexuality is that they have "strange hormones". Although im guessing you took it the wrong way then what i initially meant, it was just imposed as a simile to make a point that males should be attracted to females, rather i should have said "opposites attract". This comes from human terms, where we often refer to males and females "opposite sexes". I really dont think i meant humans were in any way "magnets".

I have a deeply held contempt for religion in general, so you'll have to forgive me for thinking that anti-gay sentiments that are rooted in religion are a load of s***. Homosexual and bisexual individuals should be afforded the same rights and priviledges as everyone else. We're just human beings with everyday issues, and though there are some idiots among us who choose to allow it, our sexual preferences do not define us as people. The notion that we're somehow trying to destroy America or undermine religious values or convert children to gaydom or something else just as patently silly is so... infuriatingly illogical that I can barely f**king think straight right now. I can't even tell my own family that I'm bisexual because of the unwanted attention and ridicule I'd face. It's madness, and it pisses me the f**k off. So says Filter, from the U.S. of A.

@Genocide: there is a word you are using that i do not understand. Please inform me of your definition of the word "should". My understanding is, the south pole and north pole of two magnets should feel an attractive force upon each-other which varies as the inverse square of the distance. Quite unrelated is that male members of a species tend to mate with female members of a species. There is nothing in this that I can see which attempts to explain your intolerance of homosexual individuals. Maybe you do not, yourself, know WHY you feel disgusted by homosexual behavior. Maybe you have some latent homosexual desires which you are in denial of! :D Filter, i enjoyed reading your post!

My apologies, it seems irrelevant to include the idea of magnets from sexual orientation, as i see many of you have a different perspective of mine. However he was asking for an opinion, this becomes a matter of making our own points. I was speaking metaphorically, not scientifically, as to demonstrate a point. Just to clear up the confusion, i believe there is a reason why our species has different genders, which is to reproduce and to ensure the survival of our species. This however contradicts with homosexuality, and it is not likely anything will be reproduced in the process, which is why it wouldnt bother me unless somehow i get involved. The magnet that i was referring to was a figure of speach, "an attraction of opposites", not the scientifical meaning. I have no intention of condemning homo/bi/trans-sexuals, less likely having any sort of fantasies or desires of the sort.

The stuff about opposites attract and the fact that its only natural, is one thing that I could do without hearing. Humans don't do whats natural. People say they should not have homosexual relationships because it doesn't follow the laws of nature. Half the stuff we do don't follow the rules of nature. One may notice that some homosexuals do not have messed up hormones. They just love a person because of reasons other than attraction. They should accept their love instead of acting on natural behavior and abandoning love for someone of the opposite sex. If we all acted on natural behavior crime would skyrocket. Love would diminish and what we had of humanity would go back to our monkey roots. Complaining against unnatural behavior is not something one should do if one is human. whatever you believe,its(ga ys,bis exuals,etc.) gonna become more accepted in society,its just easier that way. The way I see there are people who want to live their lives,and those who want to change other people's lives,for better or worse. Period mark. |

A married couple may choose to not have children, even though their biological roles are to have children. The woman can take birth control. Do you think birth control is a contradiction of nature? Do things "get ugly" when the affairs of a woman on birth control "crosses" yours, as you said about gays? Do you see the inconsistency in your logic? Your right, this thread is about our individual opinions. you have a right to yours. i have a right to share my opinion, too. in my opinion, you are a heartless (or thoughtless) person!

I also realized there is another aspect concerning the GLT Community which I was unable to include in my original post. I think the real issue on hand and the essential goal, is that the anti-sentiment amoung individuals is not simply all that determines the way that this issue moves forward, but in how MOST people feel it should move. Simply becuase there is so much debate on this issue yet no clear resolution is due to the likely fact that the sides pro and against GLT rights are both pretty even and the vast majority of people are yet to be swayed one way or the other due thier ignorance or nonchallence. If it came down to it, although I am a pretty moderate person, I will cast my vote in favor of GLT rights becuase there really is no resounding or compelling argument why the motion shouldnt go through.
