does going with your friends counts as going alone???

prom night is something that some ppl look forward too, cuz it's a magical night for them..

going alone, is no prob, but, they may be a little lonely...

When we had our prom back in my seniors, they didn't allow outsiders. So our partners had to be our male classmates; other than that, we were more than males!

I wasn't allowed to go to the prom because I was being "punished" by my school.

No way, prom's a once in a lifetime thing. You totally have to go. Hey I went to prom without a date and so did a LOT of people...I don't know about you but here (canada) it's not really REQUIRED to bring a date to the prom and neither is it extremely COOL! I don't know about how your society works where you live but here when you go to prom you go with your friends basically it's not really necessary to bring a date, and if you don't people don't laugh at you and comment on how much of a nerd you are. Me and my friend had a limo go around and pick up our friends (mostly guys). There's nothing wrong with going to prom without a date. Don't let that peer pressure stuff get to you. Going to the prom with a date is only something that's "manufactured" by people who are supposedly cool. Being cool isn't decided on whether or not you go to the prom alone. It's decided on your personality and level of sympathy. That's what makes you cool. So in all I think you should totally go and enjoy it and ignore what people say. I know it sucks to be singled out but people would admire you much more for coming alone than conceding defeat and not coming at all. Plus if you don't go it's more noticeable than if you do go :P Good luck with that :P And if anyone gives you trouble about you not being cool enough just ignore those superficial people and remind yourself of the true definition of being cool. :) Prom was a whole bunch of fun with my friends and I wouldnt trade it for anything in the world. I wish you the best of luck :P

true. i went for my prom last year with a whole lot of people WITHOUT partners. we're not accustomed to do so. and prom's not really a formal event, to me. yeah, we had to attend with formal attire. but other than that, it's just like having an expensive dinner with your friends. unless one went without a friend, then it would've been extremely boring.

We don't really have proms in Australia either.

From wat i've gathered by watching American tv, proms are like end of year 12 celebrations blown completely out of proportion.

We have a "Year 12 Formal". We do have to dress up. But it's just free dinner & booze with the whole year level and our teachers at a cheap reception hall. Not as elaborate as something from She's All That or Never Been Kissed, which involves themes and costumes.

Ours is so normal, no one would bother to gatecrash anyways.

@VoxynQueen-san, chiyo84-san, bloodymoon-san: A prom is a formal dance for juniors and seniors.....Everyone goes out to eat and then to a place where the dance is being held....That's it in a nutshell..

I see that a lot of people haven't gone with dates, but at my school everyone seems to grab "someone special" (for that night, anyway) to go with....<:\

I live in florida, so I can go to proms. But the proms now cost so much money and I don't have a suit.

Well kitty, if everyone really is going with a prom date then I can see how that can be somewhat uncomfortable for you. But I still definitely stick by my previous suggestion: "whether or not you do find a date, you should definitely go."

You said that:
"at my school everyone seems to grab "someone special" (for that night, anyway) to go with....<:\"

Well I suggest you do the same then. I know it's easier said than done. But you'd be surprised at how hard it is for a guy to ask a girl out. I'm sure there's some guys out there in your school that WANT to ask you to the prom but are too scared or not brave enough to do it. So I suggest that you take the initiative. Your chances of rejection are quite slim. Not many guys refuse to go out if a girl asks them out. It's usually the other way around :)

So in all, you should totally go for it.
I hope this helped. If it didn't sry for wasting your time :)
Good Luck

Where I'm from, its not called the prom, its called Dry Grad. The purpose, is to discourage heavy drinking and partying that may lead to accidents. So they organize fun and free games, and amazing raffle prizes so that even the people without dates will go.
