Full Metal Panic! or Gundam which series better?

Which series do you think better? the Full Metal Panic series or the Gundam series? It's Sagura vs. err... all those gundam dudes.... Personally I think FMP is better,(but I like Gundam too of course) so what do you think is best?   |

| I second that, especially TSR. TSR is such a great series. I enjoy watching the character development of both Sousuke and Kaname. |

| Lol this is probably one of those threads that might grow hot. Well if your comparing to the entire Gundam series to just three series from FMP, it could be pretty easily decided for those watched the entire Gundam Series. Anyway, even though I know some Gundam series such as Zeta are classics and absolutely fabulous, I will base my judegement on the series I saw so far. I have only seen Gundam Seed & Gundam Seed Destiny and comparing those to all three FMP series that I saw, I definitely choose FMP. |

@meteorgarden: that's because Gundam Seed and GSD sucked in comparison to their amazing predecessors. I'm not dissing GS, I'm just saying it's not AS good. Now FMP vs. Gundam? Yeah, if any gundam people other than me come in they're gonna argue to hell for gundam, but I'm trying to come up with a fair decision. I own the FMP box set and have TSR and fumoffu, but I've got too many gundam series on DVD and Xvid to list Gundam Wing is practically what started me seriously into anime, but I'll break it down into catagories for everyone. 1)Characters: Sosuke vs. the G-pilots Ummmmm.... I don't think any ONE pilot can go against BOTH his funny and skill, cept maybe Duo Maxwell, but honestly, he doesn't compare that well in either catagory. Lacus or Noin versus Kaname or Mao though, that's a better match. 2)The mechs: There are TOO many gundams out there to compare JUST one against the M9s and the Arbalest, but I guaruntee you there's AT LEAST one gundam that looks cooler/is more powerful. 3)The Plot: Full Metal Panic is one of the most original plots I've ever seen, especially the whole thing of how Sosuke acts at school. Gundam, tends to have very similar points for every series of it(well, almost every one of 'em): a)There's always a masked guy who's a commander of some sort that knows alot of stuff. b)There's always a pilot who knows him on the other side who for whatever reason duels with him. c)Colonies vs. Earth, in one form or another, this is ALWAYS the case somehow (the ONLY exception being G-Gundam) yeah, overall (I'm seriously suprised!) of those three catagories, I'd have to say FMP wins. ......didn't see that coming.............

i'd agree with h4xor dude, without being bias to any series i like FMP over Gundam(sorry to u gundam fans)but the FMP series just brings that whole package to the table for me. -FMP is both serious n hilarious at times when Gundam tends to be all serious all the time. -As for the Mechs the Arbalest is wicked but i'll give this one to Gundam cuz there are so many cool ones in Gundam that i like. -As for the plot/Story it's just like what h4xor dudr said Gundam just lacks that originality that FMP has. I my self like the FMP series but don't get me wrong i still enjoy watching the Gundam series(i especially liked Gundam 08th MS Team)but i guess just depends on ur personal prefrence, if u'r not into the too serious of themes watch FMP but if u like all drama watch Gundam.  |

@h4xor dude: Yes I know that GS and GSD sucked (you said not as good but I will say it sucked) in comparison to their predecessors. Which is why I said based on what I saw, GS & GSD, I would choose FMP over Gundam. If I saw the whole Gundam series including Zeta and Victory I might say Gundam. I know GS series is crap to many Gundam Fans because the character and even the Gundams are rehash or complete copy of earlier character and/or Gundam designs. Heck even in GSD they had to use stock footage from GS for their final battles and other stuff. Lol yea there might be some Gundam that are more powerful as you said even though the Arbalest got the Lamba Driver. Devil Gundam is pretty wicked lol. |

| It is personal preference. There is no right or wrong answer for this one. Personally....I think both series have their merits and quirks about them. |

Full Metal Panic! series for me, more fun, coz a lot of funny things that Sagara & friends do (specially in fummofu) but, I like GUNDAM series too. This one is more serius than FMP! and of course, the mecha is more..... nice than FMP (don't angry FMP fans). So, my answer is, I like both. (smile)he..he..(smile)  |

Ok, I agree with you guys, the Gundam series plots have to seem relatively similar, but there are some here and there with each series, but it does seem like the same box with fresh paint. (not that I mean the Gundam series are totally identical.) FMP on the otherhand, has introduced a kind of plot I've havent seen before radically combineing the classic damsel in distress plot, mixing it with action, comedy, and a bit of romance as well, each of which is harmonically balanced throughout the series, Fommofu being an exeption with less mecha, (but I consider Souske's Bonta-Kun as an AS, well it's sorta like one) Finally FMP also has great visuals and character designs, even 3D is incorperated into some scenes, but still looks good. Gundam has an abundance of gundams and series that make FMP look like a house compared to the Empire State Building. However FMP has brought up a fresh storyline, a great and mostly uniqe characters( especially Sagura ), as well as enough comedy to turn that house into the Petranox towers... so that means I agreed with the guys who liked FMP (hehehe...) edit: I also agree with Aimi, this is really worth trying, and if you dont even at least laugh once watching this series, then you're probably holding your breath and looking dark purple! |

I actually prefer the Gundam series (especially Wing) because it tends to be more...realistic (not sure that's the correct word). I like the way most characters evolve as the story progresses. The mechas are much better to my opinion. I never finished watching FMP and I have seen most of the gundam series so I guess my opinion isn't fair.

| for me it's Full metal panic. it is more interesting and each episod is unique. futhermore it is not too serious becoz it is partly comedy. especially sousuke sagara. his character is very entertaining. you just can't predict how naive and strong he is. well i really like him...everyone should try this anime!!!!!!!!!!! |

i haven't watched fmp....and i must admit i am curious about the series....but it looks so....how should i put this? it looks like it's a wanna be gundam series that's trying to be funny (adds comedy). i dunno...thought i would be interested into the series until i saw random..evil looking teddy bears~! anyways...gundam series def. mainly because GW is my fav. series of all time~!
i have nothing to say besides school is gay~!

| I would choose Gundam over FMP. Aparently not many people have seen Destiny but the mech designs are much better to look at. One of the mechs looks like a turtle in FMP(wtf). Many of the Gundam Series are more emotionally charged like Destiny, a few parts in the middle of the story will actually move you and make you sad. Some other guy who posted before me claimed all gundam series had masked guys other than G Gundam. Obviously you haven't seen 0080 War in the Pocket, 0083 Stardust memories, and 8th MS Team. Both series are good, but gundam had more action and was more fun to watch. |

AMEN!!!! FINALLY!!! SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS (other than me) THAT SEED DESTINY ISN'T THAT GREAT!!!! It's the most stereotypical of ALL THE GUNDAM SERIES EVER MADE!!!! It doesn't do ANYTHING truly original! Even the mech designs aren't, and for the love of all that is good don't dare compare that crap to FMP! At least Seed's (not destiny) designs and some of it's premises were original!! Destiny only survives cause of stupid fanboys that say something is good JUST because it's gundam (I watched it for that reason, but that doesn't mean I like it just because of that) @astray: I said that all Gundam series have masked guys. I know a few don't, but the only ones I can think of were 08th MS team and 0080 (because I haven't seen that one). 08th MS team was too short though as it was to really build up a complex character that normally is associated with the masked character genre, and seeing as 0080 is even shorter, I don't think it could have either. 0083 did have one though, and I realize now that if you count Shwartz Bruger or however you spell his name, then G Gundam does too (I mean, he does act like the other masked pilots, being all 'pro pilot giving advice' and still being a rival and all). Although I do agree with your last comment (Gundam does have more action). The main thing FMP has going for it over gundam though is probably it's comedy, and it's modern day feel. Most Gundam series seem to take place several decades at least from the present. Gundam takes the cake in the mech action and design catagories, but FMP doesn't necessarily do bad in those catagories. Btw, one last comment @astray: It's supposed to resemble a frog, not a turtle, according to the interviews with Shouji Gatou (one of the creators of FMP). I assume judging from your name you're a bigger Seed/GSD fan than the other series? I'm just wondering what Gundam series you saw first was. (I'm taking a poll if anyone else wants to post which one they started on first too). Thanks!
