I took me a while to figure out the series of Evangelion, so theres no suprise that I'm asking this. At the end of EoE, Shinji was choking Askua, why in your opinion was he doing this? Next he stopped and started crying. Again, why? Lastly, in the english dub. version Askua calls his 'disgusting'. Again, why? Any submissions made can only be construed as your opinion. Especily wiht this subjective ending. Thanks
No matter where you go, there you are...

Well all things that happened...I assume Shinji snapped...I mean wouldn't you if you were the cause of the apocolypse? :P End of Evangelion is probably one of the endings that will be argued about twenty years from now. A lot of symbolism and sheer wierdness |

I suggest watcching the movie with commentary, it helps A LOT. The woman that helped with a lot of the translation (and also did some voices) says that they actually had a hard time with the last line. She explains saying that there is no word for "I" in the japanese language. So if one were to say "I feel sick" in japanese it would just be "feel sick". The reason she says disgusting is because she is really describing the whole situation, and her feeling of disgust for Shinji and the fact that he is crying. The reason Shinji choaks her is most likely because of the head trip he had taken a few minutes earlier when asuka had knocked him over into a boiling pot of coffee and then yelled at him. He most likely started crying then because, well, lets face it, its shinji and thats what he does. Plus, the world did just end around him and a few seconds into choking Asuka he probably remembered that. Also, AkuraHibiki is right, every last little thing in the end of evangelion is either actually from some holy text, or directly symbolizing something. |
