Usually they are mp3s. Why are they mp2s now?

all of the media files on this website are in MPEG-1 layer 3 format, more commonly known as MP3. there are no MPEG-2 layer 3 (MP2) files on this website. if you have problems with file associations, get a better operating system or figure out how to use the one you got.

Well, after having this problem I discovered there are MIME settings within your browser that have been screwed up in some way. In my case Opera the fastest way (not the cleanest) would be to search into the options for the advanced tab then downloads sub selection and uncheck the "Hide file types opened by Opera" then search in the audio part of the list for the file extension the songs are being mistaken as and edit the entry to remove those individual extensions. It may take a few that you have to delete but it works.

The cleanest way however would be to find the program that messed your MIME settings and get it to switch them back.
