The odd thing about being a debator is that you can't stand for your own point less it was assigned to you. I've had similar experience when our group had to defend why GMO's are advantageous when all of us are against that technology. Although we had found several arguments to help us, we were not able to defend it because it's not really our stand. Going on a debate competition, you had to be neutral until you were given a stand to defend. I don't like that.

But to help you out, you can think of a lot of arguments for your position like classroom training provides you detailed information on how to get a job done and helps you understand more what you're doing. Some experienced people do their thing mostly by instincts and by tradition. they wouldn't actually know the purpose why they're doing such and won't even know the other effects of their action. For example, if you watched that koreanovela jewel in the palace, (about being a king servant) most villagers do something to their naturally preserved food because it is something what everybody else is doing in the village and because of their superstitious beliefs they thought that the harvest season would be good for them and their kingdom would be blessed if their preserved food is placed in a particular area. they didn't knew that doing such action actually created a quality food that's why their market had always been good.

i hope you could understand my point, i'm having a hrad time choosing the right words and i only had that tv program in mind, which is currently aired at a local channel here in the philippines, that's why i set a scenario from it as an example. anyway, since you believed otherwise you would know what are the possible arguments supporting "experience". It is a plus, because you would know when to took your rebuttals from.

if you're interested of my position, i believe both possess advantages and disadvantages as always the case between two conflicting theories.

i hope i had been of help. i apologize if this is all i can offer as of the moment. good luck to you.

"Education is more important than experience to become successful."

This will get different answers because of the different thinking of people.

Anyway, I have my side. I contradict. Why? because theer are a lot of people who have the brains but are not using it properly so they fall. Also, there are fewer and fewer job opportunities, making it hard to get a job. Also, companies prefer people with experience, I don't know why.

Here comes the OJT. Maybe that is why there is such thing that exists, so that the graduates will have experience about the job.

My point is kinda poor, but that is how I perceived it.

FYER,personally i think education is really more important than experience to become successful..however,i dont deny that experience is important too..

these are my points of view on the subject=

1.in order to hire someone, the first thing a company will want to see is the education status of that person.only then, among those educated people, the company will choose people with more experience..so,education is very important for the first step to get a job.after all, in job ads, companies usually will only hire someone with a qualified education status, before looking at their experiences.

2.then, nowadays lots of companies wanna go global, so they are searching for people who are trained in professional, formal education.with only experience and no education, you can get a job,but it is very rare that uneducated people will be successful.

3. besides, education is the ground to build up experience.people with education know and understand the things they are doing.just imagine a lawyer who speaks through his experience but have no education on the case, and doctors who heal without knowing precisely what to do.if they are gonna do their stuff just by experience, they'd be a goner for sure.

and from education, you can build experience easily.but from experience, there will be a lot of trial and error process, which failure often comes.from experience, you can gain education, but that requires a long time.

oh yeah, for easy reference, when you are playing RPG games, surely you need some strategies before you can gain experience points, right?(but im not sure this is related at all!)XD

anyway thats just my opinion^_^..good luck in your debate!

i think experience is more important, not always but for some jobs it is just like that. If your going to be a lecturer surely you will need education and if your going to be a salesman (like what i was before) you will need experience! I choose experience because i think sometimes education is more on theory which isn't really that pratical when it comes to real life, then again yuki is right, you need to have a certificate for people to acknowledge you, just to get you started. After that you'll need experience.

it's fun to learn, so for me, education is fun! hehehe..

oh my what am i typing! sorry Fyer i didn't really help out much with your debate >_<

I am assuming you are talking about a formal education at a university or college.

Actually you don't need education to become successful and there is an excellent example right here on our forum, Ranger. His education is engineering and without his education he wouldn't have been able to fly in the AF or find employment as an engineer when he retired. However 15 years ago he left engineering and started working as an eco-tour guide, then as a Tribal-ranger then as a guide again. His life experience, even though much if it was in the desert, was not enough for him to be a guide in itself and there are no schools for it so he started at the bottom working for a companies that trained him on the job while doing tours;Jeep, coach, hiking, wilderness, rafting, eco-tours all of them. He read a lot of books, doing research taking the odd class here or there and spent a trememndous amount of time exploring the desert. He did go back to school to study geology since our tours do have a focus on earthquakes, still it is a minor part of being a guide. Ranger can identify over 150 of the 800+ desert plants and can use about 25% of them for something, food, medicine, tools, weapons, etc. Those skills he learned from friends and by practicing those skills. That means he can build a shelter from available materials and what he has with him. He can also make a fire without matches and that actually got him a job one years as an IT one summer. Where do you learn that? Not at the College of Higher Eucation. No that is taught at the University of Hard Knocks.

All in all by his count <3% of the eco-tour guides here can do that. Today he is rated as among the top guides in the desert. He has written books, appeared on TV and radio, teaches trail safety/survival and does lectures from time to time. that is a a sucessful person, recognized in the tour industry as one of the best and most of that >75% is based on experience. He is also one of the very few people who can be dropped into the middle if the desert and survive, that's a measure of sucess as well and that is something you can't learn from a book.

The answer to your question is; No, you do not need education to be sucessful. While education, even self taught, is a great benifit to being a sucess that alone does not ensure sucess. Only experience can do that. Education helps, however it is not necessary, experience is.

Education is teaching someone what to do. Experience is knowing how to do it.

the very very very very important step:
have you DEFINED each of your keywords?
1. Education
2. Experience
3. Success
the definitions will aid you greatly if you define them correctly.
it WAS the definition which won my debate team a medal, honestly.

I would like to make another term here, see where it stands with all of this.

Practice.

I am going to use fighting as my example. I say for fighting it is education, practice, then experience.

Education being getting the basic knowledge on how to defend yourself.

Practice being honing your body, and perfecting what you learned in education.

Experience is getting into a really situation where you make use of what you've learn and practiced.

Ok,these are the meanings of the keywords in this title,
1)Education:
-Education here I mean the formal, systematic education u take in university or college(Yeah, lady_rin got it right!)and when u finished it u are goin to came out as a pro.get it?
2)Experience:
-Experience means somethin u went through before or the knowledge u gain as u've done something.Example: u learned how to protect urself as u've fight with others before.(^^ negative example..)
3)Success:
-This is the most important word but the most blurr keyword in the title.I don't think the word 'success' here means successful in life coz it is too wide. So, I assume it as successful in career.

OMG,>.< I am so worry about my words tommorow.
Oh, forgot to tell u guys I goin to debate tommorow.T^T....
I guess good luck to myself then....
