I certainly do. But that's whenever I get the opportunity to.. which is not much. I mean, there are a loooooot of Japanese students at my college, but going up to them and talking to them is a different matter. I usually talk to all the TAs in my Japanese classes though, and they're really cool. :) |

I liek to speak and learn Japanese. Doing that would be cool. |

I like speaking it, but there is literally no one in my area with whom I *can* speak. Very few people here are multilingual and Spanish is usually the only other language they know. I'm willing to bet that I'm the only one within miles who knows Japanese. "Knows". Heh. That's speaking relatively, mind you. I'm not fluent yet, but I can speak at a conversational level. I make so many mistakes when I speak that one would think I had suffered a brain injury as a child. Practice makes perfect, but when you don't have the opportunity to practice, you're pretty much f*cked. >:/

@Filter: you should look into a study abroad program at your school! thats a great way to get practice. |

I've been out of school for a number of years now, but I *am* considering going back since my current career path is looking a bit bleak. I'll definately look into that should I ever go back.

A conversation between me and my wife can be interesting. Both of us are Japanese, but we've been out of Japan for very long time (we met in US). I would ask her something in Japanese, and I get the answer in English. So I reply to English and I get answer in Japanese. We are not trying to be funny or anything...it just happens without us thinking. Sometimes one sentence is a mix of Japanese and English. It probably isn't good, so now we are actively trying to stick with one language, at least throughout a conversation... |

Re: do you like to speak japanese??

> umm...learning kanji online now. free website. > umm..anyone know that if u wanna learn jap in > uni do u have ... This is a little off the topic, but... The term, "jap," is..or at least used to be meant as an insult to Japanese, much like n*g*r to black. I kind of find it rather interesting that it's used regularly in the internet world without much of thought. I pointed out the above sentence, but this certain isn't the first time I encountered it. I know that the poster doesn't mean any ill feelings toward Japanese. (or else why would he want to learn Japanese?) I understand'bout cuttin' o'typin' but...maybe it's a sign that I'm old. |

If everyone adopted 'JP' as a 'Jap' replacement, I'd be a lot happier. But I guess it can't be helped because sometimes people can't spell Japanese correctly either. I get offended by that word and I'm not even Japanese. I find it most offensive if it's used in plural (Japs) or with a negative connotation (of course?). Sorry to get off topic. To get back on topic, ah, same answer as before. :P |
Re: do you like to speak japanese??

Well, at least I am not the only one to feel that way. I guess we could say it's related to this topic, sort of. If you want to learn to read and speak Japanese, you can't go off offending Japanese people. |

Hai, suki desu. Nihongo ga dekiru? I like to speak it lol. English is kind of hard, but I got it. |
