Animé: New School vs. Old School? which is better?

humm hard to tell becasue if you go way back to like the 80's, those shows were really out colored and out detailed like the lines were overlap and coloring wasnt full. but then you would have to thank em for beginning a revolution in the world. Half the world watches anime. I love that... I'll go with new school because it's more clear, better details, more technology to work with to make better shows, plus since alot of shows have been created, creating a new type of Anime is really difficult and designing a Story line and Characters, etc....A Good Example: Gundam 8th MS Team vs. Gundam Seed Destiny/Seed/X...you get the idea, but maybe not that old, just around that time period I guess. Which do you prefer?

What would you say old school is? Pre-2000, pre-90's, pre-80's, or pre-70's?  |

By his topic, I'd say he means pre-90s... But even then, can you honestly say you think Seed's animation is of higher quality and detail than 08th MS Team's? I'm not particularily fond of either series, but I can acknowledge that 08th didn't resort to tweening still frames across the screen through a third of its action scenes. Anyway, I'm going with oldschool here, if only because it's so much harder to find a real classic among newer series. I have yet to see anything made in the last five or so years that can compare to Akira or Tekkaman Blade... |

I'd have to say New school then, but opnly beacuse most of the shows I like are from after 1990, like Kino's Journey and Fooly Cooly. But I like both. Old Shows like Orguss are great (even though it's lincence has actually expired) |

hummm...Maybe I should of been more specific about this topic. I don't feel good, so I might not be able to think straight. Sorry for the confusion. Well let's see. Old school vs. New School. I'm not implying that you should think back so far. but what I meant to say was pre 90's and 90's. about the 08th ms team, I must have been thinking of another series. srt about that.

| Now that is a very very tough question. Old school anime like Ranma, Gundam (The original 79 series and its sequel Zeta), Macross, Speed Racer, Mighty Atom (astro boy), etc...they are classics! New stuff is good...but in ten to twenty years they'll be classified as old school too. So is it easy to say I love them all? Someday Midori no Hibi, Evangelion, Hellsing, Fullmetal Alchemist will be considered old classics...why make a choice, love them all :) |

Meh, I'm not particularly fond of much of what's coming out now; I just can't attach myself to either the series or the characters. The animation is nice, I guess, but I really miss some of the sharpness and styles in pre- to mid- 90's animation. Copmuter animation, though convenient, has taken a lot of the "hand crafted" quality out of anime, only to make room for more CG effects and explosions. And dude, the hand-drawn explosions are usually funnier. It's like the battle of "original Trilogy" to "new Trilogy" Star Wars. Guess which ones I root for. :p [note: I am defining "old" and "new" school in terms of use of cels vs. computer, respectively].  ºAevaº aeva.livejournal.com |

well most likely i would prefer old school...it's the story that counts...sometimes i wish they can remake the old anime to a new and better one |
