I don't think Itachi by his nature was evil...

"Do you rememeber the flashback were little sasuke ask his mother if Itachi hates him, and his father says, that not even he understands Itachi.

I think Itachi was different. I think that lust for power corupted him. Getting the stage 2 Saringan was the final straw that turned him mad or insane. He probably always were to good for his own good, became arogant or something like that. I don't think Itachi by his nature was evil.

Maybe he was just being pushed to hard. To much preasure from a strict dad, had alot of expectations to live up to as a member of his legendary clan and being so gifted." - quote (Corn)

"Well if you remember the last thing .. well one of the last thing Itachi tell Sasuke, is : I was only the brother you want it .. So it was only acting.. It could be the pressure who turn him mad, who know!" - quote (Yûyake)

Hmmm, what can you say?

Maybe u are right, in the manga Itachi had initially wanted to kill the members of Uchiha when Sasuke called out to him, he instantly stopped, and kneeled for their apology. Maybe his character is similar to Sasuke's. He is afraid that his powers have reached its limit, thus the Mangakiryou Sharingan excite him. This is just my opinion...

I think he IS evil.
He's probably putting on an act for everyone.
Mainly for Sasuke's benefit.
When he felt that Sasuke totally adores him, he went on his killing spree to get Sasuke to hate him utterly.
When someone you totally adore betrays you, the hatred you feel for him will be way worse than if he's just someone close to you.
Also... Itachi haven't gottan the 2nd stage Sharingan when he murdered his best friend.

But i think the biggest problem would be him getting his Sharingan at such a young age, 8.
The pressure on him to be successful must be enormous.
Those ppl are crazy... They made a 13 year old kid an ANBU captain???
Doesn't that mean he had to go through the Chunnin, Jounin & ANBU exams before he's even 13????

@ jabba, i thought itachi gained the mangekyou sharingan bcoz he killed his best friend??

well,i think itachi my had some reasonable reasons for killing his clan but i believe he is evil.he's a good guy who turns evil.

i think it was because of his father. anyone saw how he glared at him when some of the clan members were looking for itachi's friend? he looked at his father with so much hate even before that. it could also be caused by the severe pressure placed on him because of the "prodigy" thingy. hey anyone could loose their sanity because of that. but who knows? he could even be a spy for konoha... anywayz, lets just see what happens. It is just pressure on being the next leader of the clan!!!
He is not evil because if he is??
- he would already killed Sasuke before, he understands his ototo feelings about getting strong and as Oneechan he wants him to grow not following the path he chose and find power through himself!!
-he will not do anything to someone unless you get messed in his job.
*remember when Itachi comes back to konoha he said to his partner that don't even try to fight with anyone their only mission is to find Naruto and that's all!!

~All in All Itachi is not really evil from the start maybe later on the series he will changed to his good-nature again.

Itachi at LEAST half-insane, and the only reason I can recall being given ("testing himself" or something) for him killing his clan was so stupid there MUST be something we're not being told...

Because killing women and children is about as much of a test as shooting fish in a barrel... with a cannon.

*explodes* OMFG im really NOT the only itachi fan [girl]! *is obssessed with ita-chan* *agrees that he's insane* (but isnt that what makes him so sexy?!) roflmao! and personally, i think theres alot he didnt tell sasuke, but i also dont think hes 'evil' insane, yes, but not evil. you see, out of all the flash backs we've seen he seemed to show the most/only true affection for Sasuke, hence why he didn'y kill him. As a shinobi it would have done alot better, and he should have, not left any one alive. it would have been cleaner, less fuss for a longer periode of time. since itachi was clearly, if nothing else, a hard core soldier/assassin he would have known that, thus, leaving Sasuke alive was not only a mistake it was down right strategically stupid!

so, not only does he seem to have SOME affection for his younger brother (who was the only person he seemed to really listen to as show of the flash back of him NEARLY going crazy on the family but stopping at sasuke's innocent question of "what are you doing?" which therefore makes him not evil (evil things CANNOT have true good emotions) but he ALSO has some kind of plan that involves Sasuke.

my vote is that he wanted sasuke to become strong, or to kill him eventually, or both. or he just plain couldnt kill sasuke in the end, but i think thats a little less likely...oh my i ranted lol sumimasen!

I don't know exactly why Itachi spared Sasuke, but I'd say Itachi started out as a more or less good person, but turned evil due to power (a chuunin with higher level jounin's skill level, AND an ANBU captain).

In fact, Itachi, Sasuke, and Orochimaru seeem to follow this general power-corrupts pattern.

Evil? Well, he wasn't evil. His ambition corrupted him utterly. Now, he is just as evil as other villains.

I think Itachi really isn't evil by nature.

If I remember correectly, he didn't want to kill Asuma nor Kurenai when he battled with them, together with Kisame.

Said something like:

"Don't make me kill you" or something like that. IF, if I wasn't mistaken, the subtitles are sometimes liars.

Ok here is the known facts about Itachi Uchiha:

1. He graduated top of his Academy class at age seven
2. Had mastered the Sharingan by age eight
3. Became a Chuunin at nine
4. And was previously an Anbu captain at the age of only 13
5. To obtain the power of the Mangekyo, he killed his best friend too
6. He destroyed all but Sasuke of the Uchiha clan (Itachi seemed to hold a grudge against his clan and the only reason he gave for his crime was he wanted to test his strength)
7. Once he killed his family, he fled from the Leaf Village and joined a terrorist organization called Akatsuki and quickly became a top member
8. Now 17, he is feared even by Orochimaru

In My Humble Opinion, Itachi isn’t really a mass murderer. He seems to avoid many fights as possible, but will fight when it is necessary, as it’s been shown when he came back to Leaf Village when confronting Asuma, Kurenai, Kakashi, and Gai. He can even kill them if he wishes to but he didn’t He said “We’re not here to wage war”. If you remember after Itachi uses “Mangekyo Sharingan” Kakashi said why didn’t Itachi killed him? Now, this is a proof that he is not really blood thirty. He seems to be an objective guy that is true to his mission. The same thing happened when he face Jiraiya he hypnotized a girl in order to separate him from Naruto. And in some point there Kisame want to fight Jariaya but Itachi refuses and said “there is still some other time”.

There is a rumor flying around that Itachi actually saves Sasuke from Orochimaru. That is just a rumor nothing is for sure. If this event were to occur it add a little bit of character depth. Will soon find out…

No, Itachi isn't evil by nature. And he wasn't corrupted by power. I'm sure he has his own reason for doing what he did. It was Sasuke who craved for power that he went to Orochimaru ( not that i hate Orochimaru). He even tried to kill Naruto. I can't believe it.
