it sounds really stupid to ask if you "have to donate." If you're required to give money, it's not a donation.

yes.....you can, thats what the request list and the "upload" link is for.....why make that page if he doesnt want it to be used.. donation is optional and this: YOU HAVE DOWNLOADED X SONGS AND DONATED $ X is there to play with your conscience...
