MATHEMATIC problem for finding density
Link | by Kotuso on 2006-01-25 19:20:04
How would you find density when you are only given the mass,not volume?

For instance,Five mL of Ethanol has a mass of 3.9g. What is the density?

What mathimatical equation would you set up for this?

D= Mass divided by volume

so to substitute: D= 3.9 divided by five, which equals D= 0.78g/ml ^_^

woot

You missed the fact that mL is a measure of density.

1 mL = 1 cm3

Couldn't be any easier. So 3.9 / 5 = 0.78 g/cm3.

Odd... I thought density was defined as the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of the same volume of pure water et 3.98°C. That makes it a number without dimension...

My mistake...
"Densité" in French is "Specific Gravity" in English
And "Density" in English is "Masse Volumique" in French

... I'm suddenly feeling very tired...
