Jomunga's reverse help, and new "girl" friend.
|
Okay as some may know I am nuts about finding a girlfriend, so when reading this thread remember this person is not my girlfriend. She is my brand new friend who just happens to be a girl. Despite the size of the imminent posts in which I am about to make I would like to emphasize the fact that I have not gone crazy and fallen in love. Here is the story. My family went up to visit a couple of my parents friends, except me. I have been there before when I was a kid, they have 3 kids. I remember the 2 guys, one is my age the other who is slightly older. I don't remember their oldest daughter. Apparently my Dad ran his mouth off up there, because a couple of months later I got a box from them. (a Brownie mix box to be exact) Apparently the older sister got worried about me. So in this box is a whole bunch of letters, gift wrapped books(Magic Kingdom,Dream World,Chicken Soup for the College Soul,Make up, Don't Break up), chocolates, two four leaf clovers, a Clifford the Big Red Dog plush magnet, and a highlighter to highlight all the inspirational quotes I ever find. Not only that she asked me to listen to some songs, since I don't know how to obtain non-anime music and since asking where to find music is prohibited on gendou. Who you like to have a friendly email conversation with me about it? I have never gotten anything like this in my entire life. I have gotten gifts, but nothing that could possilble change someones life as much as this. It could have really changed my life years ago. Of course I am stoked. So of course I am willing to type out everything she has written to me for all to see. And not only that type out a reply that is even longer than hers. However something foul, something evil, has caused her to be completely ignorant to what anime is. Hence she spells it animae. Not only that, according to my parents she is bored and had boyfirends that didn't work out. So what I did is write a reply, I have not sent it yet, telling her about my current life and situation to ease her worries. Also thanking her for eveything. I also did her request of going through a book, which I bashed at. And finally a big explanation on anime. I plan on sending her some anime, candy, my Totoro plush, as well as various other things. I have a couple of questions/requests for the people of gendou. First off I mentioned some of you when wrting to her, when referring to you may I use your sig name instead of what I have been using. Here are the code names I currently use the goth, fairy princess, military tough guy, the extremely depressed guy, the boy/girl whos gender remains a mystery, the little sickly girl, a certain friend who thinks love is the source of all evil, the crazy always smiling guy, the ninja guy with dirty jokes, the Filipino in the Philipines and the one in America. If anyone else wants me to make a name for them based on how I see them, just ask. Ok what I would like is if every one could say something. Nothing in particular, I just want her to have a big enthusiastic greeting in the world of anime. Also tell me if you have any suggestions or comments on what I should do, send, or say. Just specify what you want me to quote you guys on and what are just suggestions. She sent this to me thinking only I would reply, I would rather reply with the collective efforts of the Gendou community to make sure she understands the divine power that anime has. This is what I mean by reverse help, she sent me something to help me now I plan on sending something back to help her, anime! It would also be great if I could get a comment from "the big man himself, Gendou" Yes, even he gets a description name. I don't care if you read the big posts after this. If you do I wouldn't mind feedback, questions and/or suggestions. Even more so I want your opinion. Basically this thread is a will be a discusion place regarding anything having to do with this. Also I am about to make a risk by triple posting. However it is really her post after this not mine, I just typed it for her. I am not even sure if something this big or long should be posted. However it gets out of hand, I think we could just delete it. Now if you excuse me I have to make some finishing touches to it. |

Ok this is what she sent me. I typed out everything for all to see and in the order I read them. (Top of card) Hopefully you had a fun Christmas and New years. I had planned to send this about 2 months ago when your dad first mentioned that you seemed to need some cheering up. About a month ago I had though of sending you a shoebox full of and I wrote the lower part of this card after filling it. Then I wondered if you would think a shoebox greeting was lame, and/or that the situation has changed or whether I misinterpreted what he said. I understand that you hate writing but any chance you could indulge me and send me a few lines letting me know what all has happened in your life since I last spoke with you. As time permits, would you please listen to the following songs? Plus, only if you want to of course, let me know what you think of them. The Remedy- Jason Raz Unanswered Prayers- ? country song Crazy- Simple Plan Better Days- Goo Goo Dolls Unwritten- Natasha Bedingfield Where is the Love?- Black-eyed Peas They Don’t Understand- Soya Brown (Bottom of card) Seasons Greetings! May the years, especially 2006, bring you many blessings, love, and joy!! I meant to write this sooner; however I was unsure how to best phrase what I wanted to say to you. Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. (This is the picture on the card) ![]() (Poem) Desiderata Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy. Found in Old St. Paul's Church, Baltimore; Dated 1692 (Letter) Originally I was going to try to put this in the top part of the card but I’m not sure whether or not this is just a case of over analyzing which I do way too often. If wishes could alter reality, I would dare you to move – unpause your life and you may find there is more to life than just animae. I would dare you to pick yourself up off the floor – restart your life from where-ever it was you fell and hit the pause button on your life. If you were to take a short break from hiding in animae shows and spent time on introspection for a short while, you might be amazed at what you discover in yourself. When focus shifts from hiding to the reflection in the mirror, (briefly before acknowledging the adult/outside world) then it is hard to keep from realizing your untapped talent and ability to succeed at any dream/aspiration that you are willing to commit your undivided attention to without letting “opportunities (problems/obstacles) in work clothes†get in the way of your goal. Having “stick-to-itivity†helps to enable one to fully make the most of/take advantage of most opportunities. Persistence, stubbornness, will power, etc are the back bone of stick-to-itivity. Yet, courage to believe in your abilities and the humility to seek and ask for help in strengthening your weaknesses, and honing them into strengths, also makes up a significant portion of the term “stick-to-itivity.†When you need help shoring up the foundations to bridge the chasms of life and finding the path to start/continue on your way to healing any and all (perceived and actual) wrongs/injuries, some believe that is what family and true friends are for – a shoulder to lean on in both good and bad times. Sometimes family and friends are not close enough or are too close for you to feel comfortable explaining or asking for help with various problems/stresses/issues. If you could read one of those books and help me to work on my writing skills by letting me know what you think of them via snail mail, I would appreciate it. I am sure you spend your time doing more than just animae, sleeping, eating, and chores. Could you spare a few moments to aid me in improving my writing by writing back and letting me know what else you do with your time? If it is a secret you are unwilling to share with me, or for whatever reason are unable to write to me, that is perfectly fine – it has been so long since I talked with you, that you probably do not remember me anyways. Hopefully not, but if reading any of those books is way too boring and heinous of an idea, then maybe your parents could bring them back up with them when they come next Halloween. Would you at least glance at the front and back covers – even though they are not animae DVDs? (Flower note outside) Wishing you good luck, or maybe for the chance for hope and faith to grow in you, enabling you to believe in yourself and to develop the courage to follow thru on your dreams and desires. (Flower note inside, enclosed: two four-leafed clovers) Would this aid your capability to acknowledge your past feelings, realize/evaluate valuable lessons learned, and after airing out various skeletons from the closet – be willing plus able to let them go – enabling yourself to move on with your life without excessive baggage of anger, hurt, resentment, disillusionment, frustrations, regret, etc? Probably not – yet maybe it will help in some other small way if you keep one and give one to a friend? Maybe another way might be to find the clarity of perception and a huge dose of stick-to-itivity to enable you to bridge the gap between both the stark reality of past/present plus the semi-apparent, impossible, impractical, and on the surface at least, fruitation of your aspirations for the future. (Sticky note for highlighter) Dwell not on the past. Use it to illustrate a point (or to highlight various life lessons) then leave it behind. Nothing really matters except what you do now in this instant of time. From this moment onward you can be an entirely different person, filled with love and understanding, ready with an outstretched hand, uplifted and positive in every thought and deed. – Eileen Caddy (Sticky note on the Chicken Soup for the College Soul) Yea, maybe it is a little impractical to expect a young man to actually read any of these stories – the experiences mentioned (within the book) are very similar to what I expected/experienced or what others I have talked with experienced. (Various quotes) “Some say dreaming gets you nowhere, but I say with out dreams you are unable to go anywhere -> So dream BIG, follow through with courage and determination, and you will go far.†M.Z. “Nothing great was ever achieved with out enthusiasm.†Ralph Waldo Emerson “If you have built castles in the air, you work need not be lost; that is where they belong. Now put the foundations under them.†Henry David Thoreau “Lots of folks confuse bad management with destiny†Kin Hubbard “If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain†Dolly Parton “Problems are only opportunities in work clothes.†Henry J. Kaiser “Hang in there and don’t be afraid to reach for your dreams.†“Between tomorrow’s dream and yesterday’s regret is today’s opportunity.†“Yesterday is a cancelled check; Tomorrow is a promissory note; Today is the only cash you have - So spend it wisely.†Kay Lyons “Do the difficult jobs first. The easy jobs will take care of themselves†Dale Carnegie “It is difficult to say what is impossible, For the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow.†Robert H. Goddard “The worst thing in your life my contain seeds of the best. When you can see crisis as an opportunity, your life becomes not easier, but more satisfying.†Joe Kogel |

Here is my reply. Hi and thanks for the brownie mix. (Just kidding, I actually looked inside.) I have never received anything like this before. Though I was confused at first glance, I did eventually realize it wasn’t brownie mix inside. It is also sadly true that I don’t remember you much. I do remember your room filled with unicorn posters so I put a unicorn picture in with this. Yes it is true I don’t like writing, which is because my hand-writing sucks terribly. I do like typing, I do it every day. So despite the size of this reply, it is only quite natural to me. In fact I could do this much for breakfast, although I already ate lunch. (This joke didn’t translate to well in English did it?) I will try my best to find those songs, however as a Japanese music fan I rate music more by its tune rather then it lyrics.(Because I never understand the lyrics anyways.) Also you want me to help you with your writing I take it; ok I will critique a book for you. I have a friend who wanted to get into writing; however she is too sickly to do so. I also have a ninja friend who is very smart and good with jokes, I bet he could improve your writing with his humor. I don’t use snail mail nor do I know what it is, but it sounds slow, I use yahoo mail and my address is jomunga_desu@yahoo.com things should go by much faster with this. (This part here I plan on actually writing out in a card by hand, it is going to take me so many cards to do this.) ![]() First off I will say that I read all of your letters and have a response to each. I was kinda surprised that I got this. I was wondering what the motivation was. Then I read the letters and think that my parents must be blabbing their mouths off, getting people worried and what not. I don’t think you should worry about what my parents say, because I wear a figurative mask around them. They really don’t know or understand what I think, so when my Dad says I need cheering up, don’t take it in to account he doesn’t know when or why I would. You may then worry that I wear a mask around my family in which most would say is not good, however it works well for me. They won’t be able to understand me, but thanks to my front I understand them a bit better. My relationship with them is better now than in the past. The only time I remove my mask is when I talk to my friends. They understand me, and I talk to them about everything. I even told them about this. I may even put some of what they say into this. And we are all stuck into one online forum for anime. Now then let me just say it was actually fun exploring through this box of wonder. You can expect plenty of crazy stuff from my box, stuff that you won’t even understand or be able to read. I sent some of this to my friend whose gender is an utter mystery to most, if you talk to him/her guess whether he/she is a guy or girl. I thought he/she was the opposite for months before I figured it out. This probably would have been helpful about four years ago when I was unhappy, depressed, and not a wholesome person, however anime has already dug me out of my hole. Back then I wouldn’t have even had the courtesy to right a thank you note and would have thrown all this away. I would like to kick my past self’s ass, don’t mind since I am not one to dwell on the past either. (Or it maybe because I keep forgetting it.) I think this could have helped someone else who is in a crisis in their life; I don’t feel I deserve such kindness. Thus I showed it to everyone, keeping your identity a secret of course. According to your letters you seemed worried I am at a standstill in my life. True, however I am already trying to get out of it. Despite my life currently standing still the time is not wasted. What my parents probably told you is I do nothing but watch anime, which is of course completely wrong seeing as they have no clue, and anime is not a waste of time at all. You can expect a complete analysis on anime as well as some examples. I spend my time on thinking, anime, talking to my online friends, music, exercise, video games, and college in that order. I actually try to get out of the house when I can for I am always trying to meet people, even though I suck at it. I go actually go to college to try and meet people, not learn. Currently my life is moving faster than it ever was. My goal in life is clear, my will is filled with determination and chivalry, and I am always trying to help others on the way. You told me to do some introspection. I have done that so much it is weird. I completely analyze everything about myself, and with pride I find I am completely correct in my way of thinking. I have no doubts in my mind set, no wavers in my will. I even put mine next to my friends, and we compare. Of course we agree and disagree on some things; however we all have our own opinions and beliefs. Also, as to “reflect before acknowledging the adult/outside world.†let me just say this evil army of an adult/outside world know as society will never be acknowledged by the likes of me. There is an epic war between me versus the corruption in society, and we can only change society by making it change for us. (No I didn’t go goth, but I have a friend who did.) Thus we set an example as what a model person should be or at least close to one and anime is our weapon. You would be surprised how many people who watch anime, and are absolutely terrific people in which could be a model for the righteous person. You won’t find anybody more kind, loving, and friendly than some of the anime watchers. What I am surprised about is that someone could send such a kind gesture such as this and have no anime experience. I am interested in what made you such a wholesome caring person in this current society. Was it friends, family, books, etc? I would like to know how you became so nice. Stick-to-itivity, yes I have enough of that, I even have enough to share. I don’t feel comfortable with my family. But I can say anything to me friends and usually do say everything. Even everything you sent was all retyped so I could show my online buddies. As for the four books you sent. First off I will tell you something funny. Before hand you were telling me to stop hiding in my anime. Ok now here is the thing, the books Magic Kingdom and Dream Park bare a remarkable striking resemblance to two anime called Record of Lodoss War and the .Hack// series. The synopsis for Magic Kingdom was so close to Record of Lodoss war that it was scary, I think the anime creator has at least read this book if not completely based it off it. The .Hack// series is made up of video games and anime. I myself had played none of the games and only watched a couple of the anime episodes; however some friends from my high school have and would talk about it. I do plan on seeing the anime someday. For Chicken Soup for the College Soul book, I think it was a good choice since it is composed of many little stories. I probably wouldn’t read the whole thing, but I will read some stories. Now for the last book which gets an entire essay. *Puts on professor glasses, debate cap, and critic robe. I’ll have you know love is what I argue for most, especially with a certain friend who thinks it is the source of evil. So despite having no love experience of my own, it is something that I always ponder. I hope one day to have it first hand. Ok, now this book I picked up and started reading the day of its arrival. I didn’t bother reading all or even most. I must say this is a good book for making a good relationship. However it lacks the consideration of love. I think the Author’s 98% percent rate means she can patch up a shitty relationship; by no means can she make people fall in love with her methods. What I see is that this book is a complete manually on how to live in a working relationship from how to date, to how to hold on to a marriage, and to repair a dead one. In love this book is unnecessary. It classifies every person as either a pursuer or distancer. I will have you know I got 20/20 on pursuer questions and 0/20 on distancer, and also 10/11 on intimacy. I think the intimacy question I got wrong had a typo. It said “Do you need excessive space and push people away?†I said no, and how is that supposed to be intimate. When you’re in love this book is not something to go by as it will make you unnatural and your love won’t flourish. When in love go at loves pace, not the books. I would like to use to more friends as example and the only real life example I have is them. First of when trying to classify whether they both are pursuers or one is a distancer made my brain hurt. Their love stories are filled so much with stuff I can’t classify them as anything but lovers. They have been married 22 years and are always making a big fuss with their love antics online. They also help me with my arguments in love. They always receive praise as the model couple. They love each other and no book is needed, every thing comes naturally to them despite their obvious differences, they are like a fairy princess and a military tough guy. I do think one friend could benefit from this book, the extremely depressed guy who, despite his love, can never get anything across right, and the person he loves is always avoiding his pleas. They have an awkward friendship and they are both going about everything wrong. Ah I seemed to have gotten of topic with other people’s love lives. Back to the book, this 98% success rate is really what makes me skeptical. All this means is that she can take two people and get them on an agreement; by no means can she get them to fall in love. This is especially true since she deals with adultery too. One point I didn’t like that she made was the concept that lovers need time apart. A problem for lovers is that they can never get enough time together. There is usually a time when lovers have to part temporarily, that part is pain. Bringing back the lover couple as an example, the wife gets really sick and the husband makes a big fuss. He still sleeps with her at night despite the risk of catching a terrible sickness. She can talk or do anything; despite being right next to her he is lonely. This was all on his birthday too and she was planning a big surprise for him. There is more than just her sickness, I have never seen anybody go through so much and still be sane. Like a good fairy tale, she gets better and they live happily ever after. Ah, I got sidetracked again, back to the book. I think I have said enough here so I will wrap this up. Follow your own manual for love, and not another’s for everyone loves and is loved differently. It is better that you follow your ways because you want your lover to love you for who you are and not for which books you read. I like the Desiderata letter; I find it is a good way to live ones life. An interesting fact about it is that there was confusion on its origins. The truth is it was written by Max Ehrmann in the 1920s -- Not "Found in Old St. Paul's Church in 1692." More info on it’s origins can be found at www.fleurdelis.com/desiderata.htm. The four leaf clovers were a nice touch; I have never seen any as big. I will have a hard time coming up with something to match those. I also liked those chocolates despite the fact I didn’t eat them, but now whenever Valentines Day comes I can say that I received chocolates from a girl at least one point in my life. I actually beat some of my friends to it, even though it is pity or obligation chocolate (giri-chocolate as the Japanese would say.) Also I received a little yellow note with a whole bunch of random letters on it. Was that something that just fell in with everything mysteriously? And thanks for all the quotes; I get a lot of them from the crazy always smiling guy. The highlighter with Clifford was a nice touch. Also the picture on the card was really good, maybe all the crappy pictures lying in our house should be replaces with this Thomas Kinkade’s. They are damn expensive though, I think I’ll pass. Of course I will have to match the bridge of faith with the bridge of hope. ![]() Well I said some stuff, you got to know me, and I would like to know more about you. That’s right, I already consider you my friend. I bet you are regretting sending this now, huh. You thought you were going to get a little reply and you got this enormous reply by a crazy man claiming to be your friend, and now he wants you to right back. You maybe wondering what you did to deserve such torment. Ya, serves you right. This is punishment for sending me a care package. It is in my personality to repay everything dished out to me ten-fold, be it good or bad. So feel free to write back and from now on you don’t have to be so reserved in your writing for we are now friends be it willingly or not. And don’t worry about getting another giant reply; unless you send another one, I typed all this just for the sake of surprise. Oh, and about having my parents bring the books back, don’t worry next time we come up I will be there and return them myself when you want them back. All the more horror, he now plans on visiting you. Jeremy What is anime? Ok, ok, after reading the letter with the word animae in it I couldn’t just let this slide. I left it uncorrected so one day when you read this you will think wow I used to call it animae. It the letter also assumed anime was part of my problems. The purpose of this letter is to inform you, clear up, and answer various questions on what anime is. Though of course no one can know what anime is with out watching some for them selves, hence you also received some. I will provide a synopsis and critique for each of the ones I sent you. You also learn various terms on anime which should aid in less latter confusion. There pros and cons will be covered. However this letter could probably be ignored and you could go strait to watching it, and see for your self what makes anime so unique. First off anime, Japan abbreviates animation with anime as they do with all hard to pronounce English words, is usually based of its counterpart manga. Manga is like a comic. However unlike comics in America, manga hold a grip lock on the Japanese population to where comics in America are only for a select few. Why is it so much popular and considerably better? Because it holds no limits, for manga has no set genre unlike these random super hero flicks that come with American comics. There is a manga for everything, even the least likely things can have a manga made out of them. All the genres are possible, including the birth of two new genres known as shoujo and shounen. Shoujo is usually a female heroine with romance and story development manga aimed towards female audiences, while shounen is its counter part which is usually fighting and sports usually for the boys. Also manga dares to make you feel emotion, to where comics are always the same super hero saves the day every thing is good. Plus they are all different they even range from all-ages manga to adult-only manga. Like I said they are not all the same. Some are good for kids’ will others are filled with gore not even I can stomach. Its popularity may just come from the fact that since there is such a variety that everyone young to old can find a genre they enjoy. Is this all that makes it good, just a wide range? No, currently in Japan manga-ka is as a point where only the best manga artist’s can get published. They are a big excess of aspiring doujinshi artists. Doujinshi is ones own take at drawing ones own manga or creating a fan-fiction of an existing one, yet they are not published. The creator themselves sell them at doujinshi spot sales held frequently in Japan. Even more so despite the age rating and various genres manga is still got some thing that makes it even more unique. They are certain styles when drawing manga that and artist creates a certain mood for each manga. Some can make the manga extremely bright and cheerful with a beautiful flowery mood. Others can make a dark and brooding mood, which in its own way could be considered beautiful. The great thing about manga is it is only made by one person all the drawings and the words, some many pages by just one. How is this beneficial? Well this allows the artist to convey his/her vision clearly. What makes manga natural better than other forms of entertainment is you can pull off more with less. Let me explain, with drawing skills you can draw anything, from any angle, in any way you want, and how you want to. You need no camera man from the top of a studio get a picture of a costumed man in a crappy lizard suit reek havoc, in a little make shift town that is suppose to be Tokyo with toy tanks firing at him. Instead of spend lots of money for actors and everything. A man with his spare time can create stuff high budget American movies can not. To think anime is based only off manga is also biased. Books have been made into anime as well as games and anime can be made from scratch. Anime is not made by one person but rather a production companies. Therefore it now gets more expensive to make. So they can’t make every manga into an anime. So the best and most popular manga are turned into anime. Now the various manga that everyone enjoyed are now in color, animated, with music, and voice actors. Now one deathly misconception is saying anime is cartoons. You will receive flak for that comment from anime watchers. Cartoons and anime are different in that cartoons have only comedy value. They lack story, realistic situations, and as anime is not only comedy you can expect to cry, laugh, get depressed, get angry, smile, and learn a valuable lesson and earn a valuable memory. Now for the music in anime, as there are many different genres there are many different types of music that anime makes use of. You might just learn that the world’s capitol of music is not the U.S. as anime goes has pop, rock, classical, orchestrated, hip-hop, rhythmic, traditional Japanese, jazz, blues, ska, goth, metal, techno, salsa, choir, country, etc. Hell, there is even barbershop and my favorite music which is an unnamed genre known as cute, happy, fluffy music. Another thing to take into consideration when talking about Japanese music is their language. The Japanese language is much more suitable for music than American as it doesn’t have long stretched out syllables that can hurt a good song. Their language also is optimum for hitting high and low points in music. Another thing that leads to the creating of great singers in Japan is the common pastime of karaoke. The average Japanese school kind has more singing talent and experience them America’s leading idols, therefore the commpetion for becoming an idol singer is far greater than in America. In America for one too become an idol has nothing to do with singing talent just image, in Japan if you aren’t absolutely great at singing you will loose because image won’t sell cds. It is not just singers but composers too, which make the good music. Now for voice acting, which is by far the most important thing to consider when making an anime? This can make or break an anime. Japan has a whole line up of famous voice actors, who are as famous as celebrities. They are good, no, really good. Some of them are also singing idols on the side or some idols are voice actors on the side. They can pull off various voices, especially women voice actors who can do various different voices, even the male ones. When anime is licensed in America, they add subtitles and voice over the Japanese cast with an American one for dubs. Here is my great warning, AVOID DUBBED ANIME, as it never up to par with its original Japanese cast. In some cases it is so terrible it can ruin even the best of anime. One dubbing company did such a bad job once it was refused of any and all anime projects causing it to loose all it business. The One Piece dub is considered one of the world’s greatest disasters. If your have read this far I assume you have been punished enough for misspelling anime, and you may have learned something. Pros: • You learn Japanese language, Japanese culture, everything Japan. • Entertaining, fun • Lessons learned, life changing lessons • Makes even the most cold people get emotional • Teaches values • Free, just download using bittorrent or Irc • Keeps you on the computer away from drugs • Makes you think about things you never have considered before • Makes you question yourself • Anime friends are good friends • Boredom is erased from vocabulary • Interesting discussions to be had • My find the child in your self • Motivation to change your life • My change your life around • New dreams and goals my emerge • Laughing and smiling will come more often • New music style • Using anime lingo is fun • It is pretty • Day dreaming may become more interesting • Anime people are hot, unrealistically so • What you thought cute was will seem ugly compared to some of the cutesy stuff flying at your face. • People from all over the world, from different religions, languages, and races watch anime and can get along thanks to a common interest like my Filipino friends in the Philippines to the one in America. It is nice knowing people across the ocean are more similar to you than you think. Cons: • Cute stuff flying at your face causes blood to rush to your head and you feint • Anime people are hot, unrealistically so. Causing real life people to look ugly • Hentai – these means anime porn which can be down right disturbing • Finding out on of you favorite anime was based off a hentai game • It some times gets ugly, really ugly • Pain in cheeks and sides from over laughing and smiling • Buying DVDs is very expensive, 25$ for 3 episodes • Import/Chinese bootleg DVDs are terrible quality • Sadness, anger, and depression comes with some anime • This is important: anime is, and I am not joking when I say this, is more addicting than cigarettes. For you see smokers have the ability to quit when they realize it is not good for them. Anime addicts can not, because they can’t even try. It is near impossible to get an anime addict to give this up because they will never want too. In history there have been people who have quit smocking, there is yet to be one to give up anime. There is also no reason to have to either. Here are descriptions of the anime I sent you Record of Lodoss War (fantasy, magic, action, adventure, romance, drama, comedy) A long time ago, there was a tremendous war between the goddess of Creation and the goddess of Destruction, which made the earth tremble. Both goddesses perished in the war and created what people called a cursed land - Lodoss. Something evil is happening in the land of Lodoss. Parn, a reckless young warrior, along with his newfound friends, takes on a quest to find out the source of this evil and becomes involved in the greatest epic struggle between good and evil since the war of the goddesses. This is a good first watch. It is an old anime, it isn’t great but it is fantasy and similar to the book you sent. I did like it though. Music is good and really gets the fantasy feeling down. If this is your first anime and you happen to watch it all in less than 3 days, you susceptible to anime addiction. 7.5/10 Vision of Escaflowne (fantasy, mystery, romance, drama, action, adventure, mecha [robotic armor]) Hitomi Kanzaki is a typical high school girl, with all the regular high school problems. But when a vision of a young man battling a dragon becomes a reality, her life changes forever. Drawn into a strange vortex with the swordsman, Van, Hitomi is thrust into the strange world of Gaia. Entangled in a struggle over life and death, Van must learn to master the suit of armor, Escaflowne. Chased by the Empire of Zaibach, Van and Hitomi will encounter both allies and enemies in an effort to unlock the secrets within Escaflowne. This is another good first watch, also an oldie. It also has a movie with an alternate telling. I recommend the anime first. It has great music, especially the opening. I showed me 8 and 10 year old cousins this one, they loved it despite it was kinda mature for them. 9.3/10 Full Metal Alchemist (drama, magic, science, action, war, comedy) In this world, there exist people with special abilities to manipulate objects and transform one object into another. These people are known as alchemists. This proces does come with a cost though, the basic law of alchemy states that to gain something you have to sacrifice something of the same value. The main character is the famous alchemist named Edward Elric - also named the Fullmetal Alchemist - who almost lost his little brother Alphonse in an accident. Edward managed to contain his brother's soul in a large armor. While he did mangage to save his brother's life, he had to pay a great price himself. To get back what they lost the brothers embark on a journey to find the Philosophers Stone that is said to amplify the powers of an alchemist enormously. This one is quite emotional. I cried out of anger. I recommend watching this before watching any of the happy ones as it may lessen so of the blows this one can dish out. You may want to look out for quotes in this one since it has some good ones. It is also a thinking anime also. Corruption and evil play a big role in this one so be prepared. Movie is to be watched afterwards. 9/10 Haibane Renmei (slice of life, alternate reality, drama, mystery) When a young girl, Rakka, wakes up from a dream, she finds a ring of light over her head and she is welcomed by a group of girls who had wings on them. Rakka then becomes a member of the Haibane Alliance, the group who protects the town of Guri, enclosed by walls. Why did Rakka become a Haibane? Who were the Haibane? As Rakka continues her life in the peaceful town of Guri, the mystery behind her new friends begin to be revealed. This is a good watch after Full Metal Alchemist. Quite peaceful and comforting, its story consists of character relationship and philosophy. It is very mysterious and makes you think. Music is great and so are the characters which have a little more realism than most anime characters. 10/10 Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (drama, romance, game) Narumi Takayuki is a third year, high school student who doesn't study very much for the college entrance exams. He passes his days neither studying, nor being able to find anything else interesting to do. His friends Taira Shinji and Hayase Mizuki are both busy with studying and swimming, so Takayuki is left feeling very alone. Until one day, he meets a girl... I will be honest I don’t like this one, but everyone else does. I don’t know why. Sure it is good I can aknowlege that. What I can’t understand is why it is rated so high. Maybe it is because the leading male role is a complete dumbass and screws over everybody, leaving himself un-harmed. What can I say, it is based of a dating-sim game where you play the role of the guy. So naturally they couldn’t come up with a good male character. It leaves you feeling sorry for the other characters the dimwit runs over and is depressing. But that at least creates a whole lot of drama; it may have been too much for me. Has the feeling of a soap opera to it. Music wise I feel it is inferior to anything else here. ?/10 Fruits Basket (comedy, slice of life, romance, drama, shoujo, school life) Fruits Basket is the story of a young high-school girl, Honda Tohru. Having lost her mother in a car accident, she has come to live alone in a tent in the forest near her school. Never a quiitter, she strives to honor her mother's memory and work hard to do the best she can with her life. One day, she happens across a house in the woods, not far from her makeshift abode. The residents, Sohma Yuki and his cousin Shigure, aren't total strangers. Sohma is the coolest guy at Tohru's school! Will the chance encounter lead to new friendships, and perhaps, a new romance? Why all the talk of the Chinese Zodiac? Why is the title "Fruits Basket"? This is an anime for all to enjoy. Kind and loving is the theme here. I also must express my self specifically here not to watch the dubbed version. Comedy is plentiful, and be on the look out for pleasant quotes. Your favorite character may come from this anime. The ending seems sudden but this one was based off a manga before it even finished, In fact it is still being made. This anime isn’t even half of the manga. 9.9/10 Ah! My Goddess! (comedy, romance, magic, fantasy) This story is about Morisato Keiichi, a college student in the Nekomi Institute of Technology (NIT for short), who accidently calls the Relief Goddess Office while ordering a takeout, and summons Belldandy. Belldandy grants him one wish and Keiichi, thinking that this was one of his Senpai's practical jokes, wishes for a girl like her to stay with him forever. To Keiichi's surprise, it was for real, and Belldandy has to stay with him forever. This gets Keiichi kicked out of the dorm, which doesn't allow women. So, Keiichi and Belldandy goes off to search for a place to stay, and eventually end up in an old temple where they begin their new lives together. Here is a stereotypical anime of the beautiful loving girl stuck with the worthless loser guy. Of course this might be the one that started it all. It is quite short, only 5 episodes, it had a mini-series shortly after and a TV series 12 years later. It is a good watch for all. It started this new genre known as harem with the help of Tenchi Muyo, basically one guy somehow manages to live with many girls. 9.2/10 Miyazaki Hayao (This is not an anime, it is the name of the Oscar winning director who directed many anime movies, his movies are the “universal anime†as any body can watch them and like them despite age, gender, preference.) Here are some of his movies. Spirited Away- Spirited Away is a fantasy adventure with a ten year-old girl, which starts in everyday Japan but goes somewhere very different. For young Chihiro and her family, a mysterious tunnel and haunted town lead to the Land of Spirits, inhabited by gods and monsters and ruled by the greedy witch Yu-baba. Chihiro's parents are transformed into pigs; to rescue them, she must surrender her name and serve in this world. Luckily she finds friends and allies, including the handsome but mysterious boy Haku. Initially sulky and listless, Chihiro (or Sen, as she's now called) finds inner strengths and establishes an identity in this strange world. But can she win back her name and return home? My neighbor Totoro- Totoro is a forest spirit that little Mei, and later her older sister Satsuki, encounter in a giant camphor tree near their new home in the countryside. Although their father, a university professor, is with them when they move, their mother is in the hospital, recovering from some unnamed illness. When Mei hears that her mother's condition may be getting worse, she resolves to visit her all by herself. When everyone realizes she's missing, only Totoro knows how to find her! p.s. The plushie I sent you is Totoro. I have stuck him on the side of my computer and he has diligently guarded my anime, despite falling down occasionally in which he sleeps on the job and I have to re-stick him to the side of my computer. Stick him were ever there are things that need to be watched over and protected, he is a forest guardian, but he can also guard other things as well. Please take good care of him, it was really hard for me to give him away but I wanted you to have him. Laputa: Castle in the Sky- A young girl, Sheeta, is kidnapped by secret agents working for the government. Rescued by a boy named Pazu, together they journey to reach the legendary flying island, Laputa, while on the run from pirates and the army. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind- Nausicaa, the princess of a small nation, lives in a world devastated by a holocaust called the "Seven Days of Fire". She tries to stop other warring nations from destroying themselves and from destroying the only means by which their world can be saved from the spread of polluted wastelands. I liked all of these movies; I never met a person who didn’t. I’d would give them a average 9 per movie. Azumanga Daioh (comedy, school life) Azumanga Daioh is about high school life through the eyes of six girls with unusual personalities: Chiyo (the 10-year-old genius), Osaka (the resident airhead), Sakaki (the reserved, cool one), Tomo (the loose cannon), Yomi (the short-tempered one) and Kagura (the resident jock). Ah. It’s azumanga daioh. Pure comedy, Japanese style, and it has a warm feeling to it. That cute, happy, fluffy music I was talking about, this is a good example. There are so many memorable scenes to this one. It has no story, no character development, no conflict, no drama, no point, nothing. 10/10 Enjoy! |

Well uh.....man....I think you covered anime really well. All I can say is: What you said. Anime is alot of things and there are alot out there. Some targeted towards girls or guys. SOme are really gory others are just about life. Some have awsome stories and rally get you deeply involved waiting to see what will happen next. Anime can get you sad, or mad, or even happy ^_^ Um...yeah...Anime characters are usually almost perfect like in appearence. Hentai is anime porn, which is really kinda sad....my friend has a couple and its like....@_@....but I think he has gotten rid of them too. I have to go so I will post when I get home on some anime shows or movies. ![]() |

Ah thanks you actually reminded me of something I forgot to say. It would be a kinda long drive. I would use wings instead. I wouldn't be able to drive there myself with my sense of direction. I am in the L.A. county, she is in the Sacramento county. I actually am suppose to visit her, I changed it so It will say that I am coming too next time. Ah, Gendou is making fun of me. Love, I don't know yet. I ain't one to pass up a chance though. Basically her first response was very formal and she had no clue to who I am. I also have little knowledge of her. Which is why I hope her next response will be less formal and more open. Yes, Gendou himself replied, and even helped me remember something. |

well....here is some anime stuff: Macross Plus: Three decades after the great war between the humans and the Zentradi, the U.N. government is developing new technologies to use in their transforming fighter aircraft. Two great pilots, the loose cannon Isamu Alva Dyson and the Zentradi half-breed Guld Goa Bowman, are selected to each test a new aircraft (Shinsei Industries' YF-19 "Alpha One" & General Galaxy's YF-21 "Omega One") for Project Super Nova, to choose the newest successor to the traditional Valkyrie fighter. Their own personal grudges end up disrupting the tests and wreak havok on the program. Their rivalry heats up when a mutual friend, Myung Fan Long, shows up. Myung was a childhood friend of both pilots, but the three of them had a falling out and quickly grew apart. This is alluded to throughout the story, and evidence of the strained relationship between Myung and either of the two men is apparent, while their distaste for one another is obvious. Now when they meet again, Myung is the producer of Sharon Apple, the hottest entertainer in the galaxy, who just happens to be an AI hologram. When Myung's life is in danger, Isamu and Guld have to set aside their differences and overcome the events from their childhood that drove them apart and caused them to hate each other. that bout sums it up for that one, didnt see the first one.....though.. Yes, Miyazaki is awsome You forgot a movie he did....my most fav ^_^ and what got me into anime Princess Mononoke: Ashitaka, an Emishi prince, saves his village from Nago, a cursed boar-god, but is cursed in the process himself. As the curse spreads, he has a short amount of time to find a cure before it kills him. He discovers the curse originated from an iron bullet which had driven the boargod mad. Ashitaka must set out to cure himself and find the cause of this, but because his people have been living in exile for generations, he must banish himself from the village, never to return. During his travels, he meets a strange monk and encounters wolfgods and a strange girl riding them. He comes upon a smelting settlement named Irontown, where he finds Lady Eboshi, who is fighting a war against the spirits of the forest so she can extract its resources for her people, using fairly advanced arquebuses made in Irontown. However, he also finds that Eboshi is not an evil person; she actually cares for the welfare of her people, who are besieged by neighbouring lords who want to control the settlement. Ashitaka also discovers that only the High Lord of the forest - who has the shape of a deer with an almost human face, and who walks the night in a translucent form - can cure his curse. But there is another plot going on: The monk Ashitaka has encountered is actually the leader of a group of the mikado's agents, who intend to hunt down the Deer God and bring his head to the emperor (in the belief that it will confer immortality). These agents have struck a bargain with Eboshi: in return for the emperor's protection from greedy samurai lords, Eboshi and her people assist in the hunt. Tribes of intelligent boars, apes, and wolves, along with San (the mononoke princess of the title) who was raised by the wolves, assemble to defend the forest. Ashitaka tries to mediate; he falls in love with San, but he has also come to sympathize with the people of Irontown and wants to find a solution that will suit all. It is a REALLY good movie. I have it on DVD-english ![]() |

You talked about anime and its emotions. Anime can also change the way you think(made a thread of it in the Anime Section) I don't know if you've seen Trigun(looks like you like Fruits Basket^_^) but Legato can represent me while you can represent Vash. Its a really good "thinking anime" along with Rurouni Kenshin and...............Fruits Basket.(plus its funny) |

So this is what you were talking about in the depression thread about a "really long post" eh joumunga? I didn't happen to notice, was I in there? I was pretty sure on a few of them, like fairy princess ahs to be Rin and macho military guy must've been Ranger, and the psycho/crazy guy was most definately Sero. I'd love to be in your letter somehow, so now I'll have to think of something witty or good to put in there huh? LoL. You've covered everything really well and I think it's really sweet what you're doing. She'll be so shocked and so excited. And a visit, especially a surprise one would be way too cute. Although, I'd have to say, being an obesessive anime fan, you have too many Con's, how did you think of so many bad sides of anime? I couldn't think of nearly that many?! OH I figured out what to say for your letter, tell her that I say her writing seems to be fine, she seems to be a pretty good writer. Just needs to work on the spelling, anime not animae, LoL. She's so lucky to have someone like you to steer her on the path of anime. You make anime fans everywhere proud... oh that was corny...lol, but anways, I think you're doing a great job. And hopefully I can figure out something better so I can be put in the letter, hehe ^_^Keep up the great work and good luck!! I don't think I have any of those songs, but if there's anything else you need help with don't hesitate to ask, I'd love to help out where I can!
"Everyone has a photographic memory, some just don't have any film..." "Friends are the people who know everything about you and still put up with you!" "Nothing in life is free, even death costs us."

i've heard the songs you've mentioned below and i think you maybe wanting for love. you know, searching for the right person, and it just takes more time than you expected. hang in there maybe you're new "girl" friend will be the one for you........hopefully. also find her interests and find a suitable anime for her. if she likes it then introduce her to the big world of anime. hehehehe...... you can also make her feel special give her thoughful gifts or let her read between the lines maybe she get the point. one question: do you like her as a friend? OR do you like her as a lover? if you answered: "i definately like her as a lover!" then what are you sitting there for? go to her and confess. it will take the load of your shoulders plus it will make you more comfortable with her since she knows your true feelings.

Sero I didn't see Macross, nor do I have it. But of course I saw Princess Mononoke. It however is currently not in my possesion as I let a friend "borrow" it. I may just re-download. Anime sure has changed the way I think. When I started I watch only animes like Berserk and Grappler Baki. Now look at me, fluffy anime is #1. I was seriously thinking about Trigun, however I wanted to send her animes with fantasy elements in them; that is what I persume she likes, and she is a girl. I think i'll recommend it later. Kenshin is too long. AnimeAngel, you are actually the first one mentioned. I remember you once saying you wanted to be a wrighter, so you came up; also you are always sick, hence you were the sickly girl. You are right before Ninja's reference. The word processor actually corrected her paper. She made no grammar errors but misspelled a couple of words. I think her only problem is spelling. I will tell her what you said. It should please her to know another writer says her writing is good, and not some person who cheated his way through high school. If anybody thinks of anymore pros or cons feel free to suggest. I actually thought of a good con just now. In fact any suggestions are good, I wanna make this as big as possible. Some of the cons are just there for comic value, is smiling and laughing so hard it hurts really a con? To answer Kimmy, she is just a friend. All I know of her is she had unicorn posters, I assume she likes fantasy, she is nice and caring for sending this, and that I met her once before when I was 10 or something. If I fell in love with just some wrighting to me I would be flying all over the place searching for people on gendou. When I fall in love, it will probaly be a long absence. Then a LOUD return as I introduce my girlfriend in every single thread. Then I will get banned temporarly for abusing the rules. Then I will return calmly, and do the polite and proper introduction. Believe me, when I am in love know one will have to ask. |

Oh great, I was wondering who the sickly girl was, lol. Glad I am in there. I wasn't sure cause there were some others and I didn't remember if I'd mentioned writing or not. After posting for a while I tend to forget who and what I've mentioned before you know?! LoL. And yes I was first too!! Hmmm, as for smiling and laughing so hard it hurts. That's both for sure. Sometimes it's good to laugh till it hurts and other times your just not in the mood for laughter (although after you do u normally feel better but yea!) and Fluffy anime rocks. Well Joumunga, we will await that day that you come flying onto gendou ranting and raging about the love of ur life. I hope that day comes soon! And I can't wait to hear what she has to say after you write her back. Well here's to waiting then!! *Rushes over to critics bar for a drink and a cheer*

I missed that reference to me the first time. Mabey I should not read long posts at 2 in the morning? As far as humor and writing go, not all my jokes are dirty. Just about 90% of them. Although you can work in the dirty reference to my name. I should really think about changing that, it is giving the wrong impression. Oh well, gotta love my friends. Just so you know, I'm good with mechanics and word usage, how many people do you know that can use interlocutory in a proper sentance. |
Re: Jomunga's reverse help, and new "girl" friend.

Ya ok, It makes good to read. This is why I wanted people to read it because I didn't know if they wanted to be refered too like I did. She maybe be coming here to gendou anyways, she will get your jokes in due time. I will just say you have good jokes. She can be suprised later when she comes here. How many people do I know that even knows what that word is? I know I don't. |

I feel like such a nerd to recognize the joke at the very begining of your reply, comming from the first episode of Excel Saga... T_T You said that she was older than you? By how much? (Not that it really matters, I'm just curious) I have disagree with your opinion of dubs. While some (English) dubs can be *horrible* (yes, One Piece, Love Hina, most things on Fox kids and kids WB) and most aren't as good as the original Japanese language dub, recently the quality of dubs has increased dramaticly. I used to not be able to stand watching the English dub of animes, but there are quite a few that I would warn against just skipping over the English to the Japanese language track on the dvd. Some cases in point: Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu?, Excel Saga, RahXephon, Evangelion, etc. Very interesting impressions of the members here... I could only imageine what impression I could have left on you... In your explanation of Anime I would have added mention of how while anime on DVD is expensive, the Internet has made anime much cheaper and aquirable thanks bittorrent and IRC distros spreading unlicensed animes and a brief mention of the fansub community. And on the note of fan creations I would also suggest that you mention the realm of AMVs as another example of why anime isn't all just watching, it's a creative community. While you're at it, do yourself a favor and watch the AMV Hell series, 1-3. Just visit the "nothing is sacred" link in my signature (only if you've seen a large portion of anime popular in america and have had some exposure to american pop culture in the past 10 years, though). |
Re: Jomunga's reverse help, and new "girl" friend.
|
You did recognize the joke correctly, but I am the one that used it. What does that make me? I don't know how much older. Around 5 years maybe. Although I wouldn't be a good person to ask on opinion for dubs, its safe to just go for japanese audio instead of risking it. I must say though I acknowledge some english dubs. Hellsing was a great english dub. Your name is my impression, Psoplayer = player of PSO I didn't mention bittorrent? Yes I did, I did have to add Irc though. I haven't seen AMVs so I ain't one that can comment on them. And the hell series I am reluctant to watch, they did say something about over 18. I don't want any surprises. |

Just don't watch AMV Hell 0, the others are ok. If you're really worried about content don't watch the second one. In my opinion, it's not that bad though, especially considering what you'd be missing. Give me a while to scrounge up all the good AMVs I have and I'll give you links to all the best ones. No one should go without a few good AMVs. |
