Depressing Music
Link | by honoo on 2006-01-18 14:40:27
I know that most people don't listen to depressing music, but I personally do. Now, I realize that this has already been posted, but most of the people there will give, or talk about sad songs, but not depressing ones. Also, most sad songs are usually very beautiful. I don't want something that makes you 'sad' but something that makes you want to curl up and hide from the world. One other thing. I don't want to look up the lyrics to realize that the song is sad, because my memory is terriable and it is just to much effort, so give me something that is depressing even if you can't understand it. I know that this is kinda specific, but I am just looking for that one really depressing song that would drive me crazy.

here's mine...only sad songs but not depressing!

Chobits ~ Ningyo Hime

Elfen Lied ~ Lilium

.hack//SIGN ~ Fake Wings

.hack//SIGN ~ A Stray Child

.hack//SIGN ~ The World

.hack//SIGN ~ To Nowhere

Wolf's Rain ~ Gravity

Air ~ Aozora

Air ~ Nostalgia

Full Moon wo Sagashite ~ Eternal Snow

I've heard on my friends once they were talking about a song that is very depressing. they said that whoever hears that song will be very depressed and attempt suicide! they also said that even the composer of the song died! creepy! I hope that story is not true...

Hmm, depressing songs that make you want to curl up... The one song that I can think of immediately is Vanity from Yuki Kajiura's "Fiction" CD. Buy it from your music store so you can support Kajiura! ^__^

Again, the song is called Vanity. It's a Yuki Kajiura and Emily Bindigier song, which is my favorite pair, and it's beautiful and depressing. Vanity alone is worth the price of the CD (though the rest of the songs are beautiful as well) Also the Fake Wings version on "Fiction" is more depressing than its original (more focus on the guitar and violin)

Anyway, here's more.
Leave Me Cold: Yuki Kajiura~ Petit Cossette. Beautiful focus on violins. It's a very depressing song.
Morning Moon: Yuki Kajiura~ Tsubasa Chronicle. Sometimes I refuse to listen to this song because its so depressing. Makes my heart ache just listening to it.

while on you're on the subject of kajiura, do try Tarako's (altena, in noir) version of lullaby. it's good. and support kajiura!

Try Lilium. The lyrics are in Latin and most parts came from the song Ave Mundi spes Maria and few Bible verses, but the theme is simple, morality and forgiveness. Did I forgot to mention that this is the opening of Elfen Lied?

just about anything from Deftones :P

Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) is the most depressing to me, but My Own Summer (Shove It) and Change (In the House of Flies) are also pretty good.

Hm....try "Beauty is within us", sung by Scott Matthew(s?). One of the soundtrack of Ghost in The Shell SAC. I think you can grab it here, IIRC.

Thanks, some of these are still way off of what I was looking for. I can understand because most people just read the title, and not my first post, which is ok, because I do that all the time. But still, most of these songs, like I said earlier, are not quite what I was looking for. half-pain is a decent example of what I am looking for, and Lilium is sorta it. I had forgotten to mention that band names are also something I try to avoid. From what I have noticed, by telling me a artists name, or merely an anime name, they get me almost nowhere, it mean seriously, sometimes these guys have tons of songs. So please, do read my original message to get a better idea of what I am looking for, depressing songs tend to lean towards instrumental instead of words, because a word holds alot of meaning, and most vocal artists don't sing depressing music anyways. Sooo, yeah. I hope that clears something up. I understand that it is diffucult to see a difference between sad and depressing, but it's there. And if this website doesn't have it, and you know a perfect song, could you please post it, and if you know a place where I could get it, that would be fantastic as well. Thank you
