Yeah, I am researching (yes, I have to!) the subject of "Blogging" as the subject for a project I gotta do for a really tough class (if I don't pass it, i fail). So, here's the question (or whatever). I need to know you guys' viewpoints on blogging. is it freedom of speech? is it public or private (as in, then why do people have screen names when they speak their opinions?). and, do people sometimes take advantage of free speech on the internet that they put down things that shouldn't be said to the public? Basically, my question is, what is you guys' viewpoints on those questions above? PLEASE TRY TO REPLY BEFORE THE END OF NOVEMBER!!!! (that's the deadline for my project) Thanks for your time and help if you reply ^_^ |

if you own a linux box and host your own private website out of said box, it is your private property. you have full rights to do whatever you want with it, so long as you do not intrude on the rights of others. if you are a company like livejournal.com, letting people use your web services to host a blog, you may choose to censor what your users have to say. it is my opinion that if, for example, a person wants to talk about a political subject on their PRIVATE server, it is their right to do so. however, if they offer illegal content on their PRIVATE box, it is like selling illegal drugs out of your home -- still a CRIME. the government has no right to censor, but they have the power to charge you with violating the law. your blog web host has every right to censor the content that you post on the machines they BOUGHT AND OWN.

I know lots of people who blog and i'd have to say that so far there's no harm done, to the person that writes it and the people that read it; afterall, the ones who usually reads the entries are their friends, right? And a lot of people use it as a means of connection and communication with their friends, as well as making new friends. Blogging is simply an online journal, recording what people want to put up for the world to see. I think that if you dont like what you see, dont look at it/pay attention to it, simple as that. I personally prefer the old fashion way of picking up your phone, dialing your friend's number, and really connecting with them by SPEAKING to them. I hate seeing blogers who use the system as a way to talk bad about someone or gossip. Yeah, it's their journal/entry, their right to do it, but it's shameful and annoying as hell. But then again since you've got a computer, so why not let all your friends know what's up by posting it on the net? Ahhh, i dont know, i had a bad experience which is why i have mixed feelings; so call me bias, i'm afraid i cant make a stand, so i cant answer your questions directly. (I said a lot, hope this helps w/your project!) ^_^ |
