Are parents against cartoons?

My parents are against cartoons and video games big time. They think that cartoons and games are a waste of time and are for kids(7-16 years), but i dont think so. Now whenever they see me doin any of the above they give that look, which is sayin "God dont u hv anything better to do?". Tell me people are ur parents like that in a way or do they not mind u playing games/watching anime. 
I prefer being alone so do me a favor and leave me be.... |

yeah, same here too...sometimes when I watch anime on TV and my dad came and also wants to watch TV he'll said "is there any other shows?" or "what's that? you're still watching that kind of stuff? it's just for kids...you're too old for it..." well, if I heard that stuff I'll always say: "don't worry, I know that you don't understand properly what I am watching right now..."  |

ya, my parents strongly against manga & anime my mum always yell at me when i'm reading/watching them she always says that they're a waste of money and time...T_T |

| my parents are really against anime. when i watch anime my mom says "what are you watching? anime again?! those 'anime' aren't real!" so what if they aren't real?! i don't care if they're real or not as long as i enjoy watching it. and when i try buying some anime DVDs or any anime stuff, even if i use my own money they won't let me because they said that i'm wasting money! darn it! -_-* |

My mum didn't like it at first, but she didn't stop me, and she warmed up to it after a while. Every now and then watches them with me. Though she sometimes comments on the themes, e.g. sex, lanuage, violence, ect. Doesn't stop now either, says that if i like watching them i should and i'm intelligent enough to choose if i should or not. I must be pretty lucky, huh? OH, and i want to ask 'animelover' who the girl in that picture is, looks like Jo from BurstAngel. Is it? |

| Cartoons? Do you mean those from Cartoon Network? Nick? Disney? etc.? Because I firmly believe that animes are different from cartoons. Of course my parents are ok with cartoons. They're usually mild, and are really programmed for kids. |

I totaly agree with you i just hate it when ppl classify anime with cartoons. Anime is obviouly a hell of alot better than any cartoon could ever be.  |

My parents don't give a crud what I watch or read. They'll even watch with me sometimes. @animelover- just tell them their soap operas aren't real either. "I can hear the call of the wolves" |

| My mom doesn't really care..however my dad thinks it's just for "kids". I really don't pay attention to that comment...any more. I really wanna tell him "Don't worry about what I watch. You don't have to watch it." Oh yeah, I do agree with Xaria about the confusion of animes and cartoons. |

i agree that anime is not like the cartoons.it's different.my parents are cool with it.my dad is a big naruto fan n my mom knows that when it comes to me,it's gotta be anime ^_^ so understanding..   |

| I have to completely agree with all those below who make the distinction between anime and cartoons. As for if my parents like or dislike? Well, they both tend to watch some of the more adult cartoons like Family Guy and South Park, but as for anime... When I go home to visit, I'm always bringing one DVD or another, and as long as it's not yaoi, my dad will sit and watch it with me. I'm pretty sure he's a closet anime fan. My mother, however, doesn't seem to understand that anime is not something that I should have grown out of when I was still a teen. If she comes into a room and I'm watching it, she'll start trying to talk over the TV, with one exception. She watched some of Gravitation with me when she came to visit me a few months ago, so I think given the right genre, she could one day understand the joys of anime. Parents just need to be educated. If any of you are under 18, which I suspect is the case, wait until your 22 or 23. Then your parents might start to listen to you and not immediately jump on you about watching 'kid' shows. If your already there, and your parents are still like that, it's not like they can do anything about your choice of viewing pleasure is it? |

| I dont watch cartoons. I watch anime. And like all parents, they dont like us to waste time on such things. My parents would like want me to do more productive things like reading a book and stuffs like that. My parents arent against it but they do discourage me from watching too much. As for HENTAI, bloody violence, or those kind of anime for mature viewers, they are of course against it. 100% for sure. |
