I keep thinking about this thing, are there any religious anime lovers here or anywhere in this world? My cousin is a religious guy and he seems to hate anime a lot(He loves Disney's..Damn!!). Since anime often contains Ecchi, nudity, violence, etc. i always thought that Super-Good guys dislike anime. In that case,i want to ask if there're any of you who are religious but still remain as an Otaku. |

I am a religious anime lover. I have been watching theese shows since I can remember. I have also gone to church almost ever sunday since I can remember. All I can say is that, even though some things that are shown in animes can be unappropiate for most people, nothing should be taken as an offense. |
Re: Any religious anime lovers?

Well, I'm a Roman Catholic. We are taught Christian values ever since; at home, in our church, community, even in my schools, and now in a pontifical university. And though I am completely aware of these things, I don't actually mind them. I'm a very open-minded person, and as long as I can relate, I don't think that there'll be any problems. And Mako's right, nay offense intended at all. =) P.S.: I have nay idea what an "ecchi" is... XD But I'm totally against HENTAI! I don't see a reason why hentai even exists. >.< |

Wll, I consider myself to be religious. That is, I never miss my prayer at any cost, hoping that GOD's name will be the last thing I said in the brink of my death and that I'll go to heaven afterwards. Yet I still like anime. Tollerate and take it easy. I think that's the key. Well, yeah, anime has ecchi and violence but so what? They're just anime. It's not like watching it will drive me nutz or anti-religion or something. Besides, I think some anime philosophy is kinda good, like : "If this colony is going to be destroyed by Zeon, will you run away, Chris?"/"No, I will fight, of course!"/"Then you're not affraid? Then being affraid is wrong?"/"It's not that I'm not affraid. I'm affraid of being alone. There are important people in this colony. I can't live all by miself. That's why I will fight to protect them. It's because I'm selfish, perhaps?" Or something like that from G 0080 War In The Pocket. |
Re: Any religious anime lovers?

Im religious myself. I dont see any problem with anime and religion. Heck, there's probably more sex and violence by watching half an hour of TV in America than watching 10 episodes of anime. Besides, a lot of anime has some kind of religious or mythological references to it, which makes it all the more interesting |
Re: Any religious anime lovers?

I am a Christian and I don't see a problem between liking anime and being religious..sure there are animes run contrary to religious values(or so I perceived ^_^) but you can always exercise your right to choose..and to think of it,some animes even inspires you to good and shun evil...isn't that a good thing?

Cheers to Styz! I agree with you. @Rukia: Ecchi is slight Hentai, like dirty anime of some sort. |

I have the same situation with Rukia probably because we're both pinoys. I'm a Roman Catholic and most of us are taught christian stuff in school, home, churches... but, i know what ecchi is and the difference between hentai and ecchi. ecchi is more of like soft-core. like pg-13 sort of stuff--- > show panties, nose bleeds... that stuff hentai is disgusting. it's hard-core porn and bodily fluids. more of r-18 stuff. m y . Thank you 4 replying this thread. Honestly,I'm not that religious but i have a pretty strong of faith in Christianity but i'm still OK with ecchi and seriously and honestly i enjoy panty-shots VERY MUCH but i REALLY HATE HENTAI (Note my avatar and signature below). I once watched Hentai in my friend's laptop in the college hostel and i felt really disgusted and boring listening the same word,"Oh no..i'm coming out!!" When my other friends are focusing their heads approaching the screen,i felt asleep at the back due to boredom.... |

well im a christian, and I like anime. heck, I like GRAVITATION, i mean i believe its wrong irl for homosexuality, but gravi isnt about sex or anything, its just about falling in love with someone. whether that 'someone' is a male or female. thats probably why i can tolerate it :P i dont read the remixes or megamixes though ^^; |
Re: Any religious anime lovers?

Juajua, i read them x)They are not bad, but some things may hurt my innocent little eyes lol But i like them. You are right, hentai may be boring. It depends. I'm not saying i love it, but i dont hate it. What i really hate is the hentai version of CCSakura for example. She is a poor 10 years old girl! Thats so wrong, hate it. |

I agree that becoming religious and hating anime has no conection. You hate anime for all that, you might as well not watch TV. Not going outside your house. Not seeing anybody. Total seclussion. You seclude yourself from society. Umm, for me, there are good hentai that I love to watch. But I guess it's not because of the hentai nature. It's probably because it's damn crazy like "what? the xxxxxx got xxxx? No way!". Other than that some hentai I could enjoy probably would be better being not hentai. I mean, make the same story, cut the H. And I realy hate hentai doujin. It insults the very character whom I love. Cardcaptor Sakura Hentai, Evangelion Hentai. Damn, the image of Sakura and Rei shattered into 1000 pieces. True that anime nowadays has ecchi scenes, blood, violence, fanservice, etc. But I think you can't put it on all anime. You just have to pick the right one. What kind of anime do you want? Is it sci-fi? Which kind of sci-fi? Light-storied sci-fi like Kiddy Grade? Or sci-fi full of philosophy like Evangelion and Ghost In The Shell? That's entirely up to you! There are anime for kids, teens, and adults. Most old hags still thinks that CARTOON IS FOR CHILDREN. We know it's wrong, don't we? For children, we got yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, Digimon, Beyblade, Crush Gear, etc. And I hate them coz I'm no kids. (I kinda liked Yu-Gi-Oh a bit, Dark Magician Girl is so damn kawaii). |

Well, I think there's a difference between having a strong faith and being narrow-minded and stubborn. There's a lot of anime out there that isn't too offensive but still a good watch. The close-minded community we live in still believes that anime is just for kids, but true anime fans know that's just dead wrong. There are a lot of genres of anime out there like action, romance, comedy, sci-fi, mecha, children, adult, and others. Not every anime out there is offensive with language, violence, and nudity. One reason that a lot of anime out there have these elements is because Japan's children are vastly more mature than America's children and can take these kind of things.

Do you mean just christian or any religion? I'm very religious, but am not christian. When I was a christian I looked at anime differently than I do now. Back then it was like a guilty pleasure. Now that I'm not I have no hang ups. |

Any religion,i mean. I feel furious on several animes that insults and give wrong focus on any religions. I once watched Holy Virgins(suppose it's Stupid/Idiot/Horny Virgins),a hentai anime and i really hate it seeing a nun and three in-training nuns doing xxx with the main guy,a horny doctor!!! What the hell they're making this thing!!! It really insults Christianity especially during several scenes!! I really feel furious as how i watched Scary Movie3,the part where a picture of Mother Theressa was shot by a gun and smash into pieces(WTF! They think this is funny!!?)I'll recommend all religious guys to stay out from this thing. |

annita=> atheist?, where do you live anywayz? I rarely find any atheists in places... I like religious anime actually, most very especially Evangelion. It's a very rare anime which concentrates more on Catholicism rather than the Japanese Theravada Buddhism which is the religion which is usually evident in animes. Another anime which features some Catholicism is RK. It showcases the time when Catholics in Japan were assassinated during the Tokugawa Shogunate. It also shows the wrong beliefs of the people regarding their religion. ^_^ m y . L i F E . i . t r a d e . i n . f o r . y o u r . P A i N . |
