I tried an edible for the first time yesterday after only ever smoking. I expected it to hit me quickly, but nothing happened for almost an hour. Then it suddenly hit harder than I anticipated and lasted way longer than usual. Is this normal for edibles compared to smoking, or did I just misjudge how long it takes to feel the effects?

I’ve only ever smoked, so I never had to wait or think about delayed effects. I imagine edibles could be tricky at first, especially if someone isn’t familiar with the timing. It makes sense that digestion changes how long it takes to feel the effects, and probably the duration too. It seems like a lot of planning and patience is needed if you’re switching from smoking to edibles. I guess people have to experiment safely and see what works for them, since everyone’s body and metabolism are different.

I had a similar experience when I first experimented with edibles. Smoking usually gives you that instant effect, but edibles need to go through your digestive system, which makes the onset slower but the effects last longer. I remember eating a gummy before hanging out with friends, and nothing happened for a bit. Then, about an hour later, I felt it strongly and it stayed with me for hours, way beyond what I expected. If you want to get a better sense of timing and doses, this link is helpful: https://joyorganics.com/products/10-mg-delta-9-thc-gummies-value-pack. Everyone’s body reacts differently, but planning your time around the delayed onset helps a lot. I usually make sure I’m not rushing into anything for at least an hour after taking an edible.
